The book is a short history of the roman civilisation divided into 4 phases. The Monarchy phase, the republic, the empire and the continuation of the roman civilisation in the eastern roman empire after the western half fell, known to us as the byzantine empire.

I do not know if someone without any previous knowledge of Rome and its most important events could really take much of this book, since it registers everything so briefly and without being able (because of its shortness) much of the effects that each of the events could have triggered in the roman world or on its institutions and political structures. Nonetheless could be a good start for someone who just want to read superficially about the extents and complex history of the roman people.

Poorly written and edited - it reads like Highschool history assignment. But it gets across the sequence of events in a clear and adequate manner.
