After months of clandestine battles, the Brothers of the Medici Protectorate finally know who is responsible for the assassination attempts on the Notaro family, the secret descendants of the Medici line. And they’ve never faced such a formidable foe.
Roberto Cozza—Coz—faces this new reality with surprising pragmatism. His powers may make the difference in winning their covert war—if only he can master them in time. It would just be so much easier if he could get his emotions under control, but neither his Brothers nor their charges are making things easy on him.
Toni Notaro appreciates the security provided by the Brothers, but she knows she has her own role to play—and it terrifies her. She is the missing link in Coz mastering his emerging abilities, yet she struggles to bridge the gap between what he needs and what she can offer.
As the Brotherhood hurtles inexorably toward the climactic final showdown, Coz and Toni must find the strength within themselves and each other to master the secrets of his powers, or risk death and defeat for all they hold dear.
I grew up knowing family is paramount. I was blessed to spend time with extended family daily, not just on holidays or weekends. Because of those close-knit familial bonds, every day was full of love and laughter, food and fun.
Life took me away from that extended family for twenty years before I finally made it back. And while I'd done my best to keep the traditions alive across the miles, I realize there truly is no place like home.
Through my fiction, I share those traditions and the importance of relationships with you. Mystery or suspense, romance or mainstream, sci-fi or thriller—in my stories, family (however you define it) is paramount.

A fabulous conclusion to an amazing series, Tortured Soul delivers edge of the seat suspense and tantalizing romance within a twisty plot. I’ve loved all the characters in this series, becoming involved in their stories and lives as if they’re family. Indeed, the author has made the members of the Brotherhood and the Notaro sisters such strong and fully developed personalities, each unique, it’s impossible not to become ensnared their struggles to the exclusion of all else.
This time around, Coz and Toni take center stage, learning to navigate their feelings for each other while Coz struggles to master his emerging powers. I’ve enjoyed how the author has given each member of the Brotherhood a different power/talent, and Coz’s is perhaps the most intriguing of all. This is a book to curl up with and block out the world. The writing is polished, the plot multi-layered, the dialogue superb. The banter between the Brothers is often delivered with gruff affection. Trademark Troilo, and so well done.
Filled with romance and suspense, Tortured Soul barrels to an epic confrontation, delivering a satisfying and explosive conclusion. Whether you are a new fan or one who has followed from the start, this is a book not to be missed.
After diving deep into the stories of Gianni and Franki (Bleeding Heart), Vinnie and Jo (Mind Control), and Nico and Donni (Body Armor), I was dying of curiosity. Not only I wanted to know how things were going to work out for Coz and Toni, but I also couldn't wait to reach the end of this series.
Tortured Soul is the fourth and last volume in the Medici Protectorate Series. Coz and Toni are the only pair of Brotherhood warrior/Notaro sister who isn't a couple, and it was easy to see that they were going to end up together. But as usual, Staci Troilo manages to surprise the reader with a unique story arch for these characters. After all, just because they are the last ones it doesn't mean they don't deserve their full-fledged romance.
Their relationship, however, blossoms in the most challenging time for the Brotherhood and the Protectorate. Their enemies are ready to hurl the final attack, and the Protectorate needs every last bit of power, skills and resources they can glean to keep the Notaro sisters safe. And Coz hasn't his full powers yet.
You can imagine, with these premises, Tortured Soul is a fast-paced and intense ride through action and emotion, outward chase for enemies and clues, and inward self-discovery, both for Toni and Coz. The main characters, however, aren't the only one dealing with personal demons. Nico and Vin still have problems dealing with what they had to do to fulfil their duty.
Many important themes surround the plot—trust and betrayal, self-preservation and self-destruction, fulfilling your duty despite everything but also keeping your humanity. But above all, there are the themes of love and family united against adversities.
The end of the Medici Protectorate Series is bittersweet. The story is fulfilling and answer all of the reader's questions. The writing is brilliant, and the dialogues make it vivid. As usual, I had a hard time putting it down. But I'm sad to know it's over. I had such a great time reading about these characters that knowing there won't be a fifth instalment makes me regret reading it so fast.
The Medici Protectorate Series is perfect if you love romance mixed with action. You can thoroughly enjoy Tortured Soul without knowing the rest of the series, but I assure you you won't regret reading all four books.
I just finished the final book in the Medici Protectorate Series by Staci Troilo, Tortured Soul.
The world building in this series was spectacular. Troilo wove action packed scenes with bold character development for the heroes and the villains. As I progressed through the series, I felt more attached to the heroes and heroines, and more disdain for the villains.
Troilo did not disappoint in the finale. She wove suspense in with expertly with a steamy romance while culminating in an epic confrontation.
Tortured Soul delivers in its rich narrative with characters who come to life so perfectly you think you are right there with them. The characters have been so well written that their struggles become yours.
This is a series you don’t want to miss. Curl up on your favorite chair, maybe in front of the fireplace, with a good glass of wine and enjoy the journey with the sisters. You won’t be disappointed.
The Medici Protectorate Series is filled with love, tension, battles, and suspense, from the first book to the series end. I was sad to see this series end. I cannot wait to read what Troilo publishes in the future.
I saw this book advertised and bought it, so the fault's on me that it's the fourth and final book in the Protectorate series and I was lost and had to muddle throught the first few chapters. I'm glad I did, though. Because once I met Coz and Toni, I was hooked. Coz is going to be one of my favorite alpha type heroes. The more I learned about him, the more I liked him. He felt so REAL. The entire concept of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci both creating philosopher stones to make themselves nearly immortal was also intriguing. So was the ongoing feud between them. I also liked the idea of each dagger controlling a different element--water, fire, earth, and air. To really enjoy the story, I'd suggest reading the books in order, but I'm glad I read this one. I'll remember Coz for a long time.
A real page-turner, Tortured Soul was a wonderful conclusion to the Medici Protectorate series. Staci Troilo really delivered with this one, giving her last two characters riveting back stories and flaws that made them more relatable than even the previous three books. The ending was neatly tied up, leaving little in the way of questions or cliff-hangers, something some novelists have a bad habit of doing even in the finale of a series. Overall, I was sad to see the series end and look forward to reading more of the author’s work in the future!
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the Medici Series. “Tortured Soul” is the finale, and I was sad to see it come to an end. This book’s focus was on the final Brother, Coz, and Notaro sister, Toni, and their connection. The relationship felt very real with their baggage, especially Toni’s self-image issues. Watching the couple navigate from what was expected of them, to what they felt was intriguing. I enjoyed Coz’s development as his unique power revealed itself. The history and Italian culture mixed in with the action and romance made it hard to put down. This is a well-written steamy romantic-adventure that I suggest you read from the beginning, to fully enjoy the outcome. I highly recommend this book and series. I look forward to more from this author.
