The Great Adventure And Rise Of Modern America Theodore Roosevelt My book was all about Theodore Roosevelt. It briefly describes his life and all of his accomplishments. It talks about his Presidency, Vice Presidency, Colonel of the Rough Riders, assistant of the Navy, and Governor of New York. It is a great book to read if you have to do a project on him like I had to. But it isn’t a super fun book to read so unless you had to do a project on him I wouldn’t suggest reading it. But it is a very factual book and give a good brief description on his entire life. Like I said in my opinion the book is to dull and factional. Obviously it is going to be full of facts but it just was a little boring at times to read. It was great help for background information on him for my project and if you want to know all about his life it is a great source for a essay or project. But I definitely wouldn’t read it in my free time for fun. I don’t think there is a very big crowd of people who would enjoy to read this in their free time. I think that mostly people who read this are people who are looking for information for a project like I was. The book doesn’t focus too much on his accomplishments as much as I would have thought it would. It talks more about his early life then I would have thought so. It might have been more entertaining if it was about his big goals like Colonel of the Rough Riders, or him as president, or Vice President, or assistant of the Navy or even him as Governor of New York. If I had to rate this book out of 5 stars I would give it a 2 ½. The reason I would rate it this way is because although it is very factual and helpful it is very boring and hard to read. If I didn’t have to read it for my project I never would have been able to sit down and finish it. I’m not a big reader and on top of that I didn’t like this book so it was pretty hard to sit down and read the whole thing.
This is everything non-fiction should be, whether it's for a child or an adult. Thorough yet highly readable, Marrin doesn't hesitate to show Theodore Roosevelt's faults or to praise his virtues, and he takes the time to give the background to the events he chronicles. Roosevelt comes fully to life. There is what might be called "mature subject matter"--photos of war atrocities and a naughty word or two in some of the quotations, so this is a book for middle school and up. And any adult who likes a good, intelligent biography would find this one worth reading--it's far better than a lot of the pompously written biographies done for adults!
I thought this book was very good, and a very good representation of Theodore Roosevelt's life. I liked how the book was very descriptive about his younger life. I didn't finish the book because I have other books to read. I thought there might be a little too much information and was more drawn out than I originally thought.
The Great Adventure: Theodore Roosevelt and the Rise of Modern America
Very readable biography of Teddy Roosevelt. Describes his accomplishments in the context of the time. American expansion, Industrial Revolution, Jim Crow were all influences on his life and legacy. The book is thorough, interesting and balanced. Although it's cataloged as a childrens book, it would be appealing to adults as well.
