This story has a great message and theme to it. Ember, who carries some baggage from her past, uses one-night stands and drinking as a way to escape. She crosses paths with Dr. Colt Barnes, a plastic surgeon, who uses his medical practice to truly help people, and not just facelifts and nose jobs. Colt notices Ember in a bar they both frequent, and sees that she is often leaving with a new guy. He takes it upon himself to show her that her life can be much more than that, and issues her a proposal/challenge. Date him exclusively for a period of time, no sex and he will show her what she is missing and how to be treated like the woman he sees her as. See - great message. Great theme. Great moral to the story. But, for some reason, it just didn't ring quite true to me that something like that might really happen. Yeah, I know...we read fiction to escape. To idealize our book boyfriends. Blah blah blah. I get it...but this storyline just didn't float my boat or pop my corn is all!
Reviewed for THC Reviews Cured is the first book in Stacy Eaton’s Heal Me contemporary romance series that follows a group of friends who are medical professionals. Colt is a plastic surgeon who often meets his friends for drinks at the bar, Shot Therapy. The last several times, they’ve been there, he’s noticed a beautiful woman who always leaves with a different man each time. Sensing that there might be something deeper driving her casual hookups and feeling she deserves better, he decides to make her a proposition: Don’t sleep around or date anyone else but him for one month and he’ll show her how a man should treat a lady. At first Ember is slightly offended by Colt’s proposal, but having just had a wake-up call, she thinks maybe it might be time to try something different. She agrees, and for the next few weeks, they share some of the best times of her life. Colt gradually begins to chip away at the ice that’s formed around her frozen heart, and she starts to really fall for him. But if she tells him the truth about why she’s only been living half a life for so long, she fears what he might think of her. Also, he never promised her forever, only one month, and when a jealous friend who wants Colt for herself stirs up trouble, it could mean the end of Colt and Ember’s relationship.
Because of a traumatic event, Ember has been mired in pain and grief for the past six years. Feeling she’s undeserving of love, she’s walled off her heart and only engages in meaningless hookups as a way to try to feel something. One night, while reconnecting with an old friend at Shot Therapy, she picks up yet another strange man, only to be heckled by a different guy sitting nearby who is even hotter than the one she chose. Recognizing the second man as being too wealthy for her blood, she brushes him off and sticks with her original choice, but their time together ends up being nothing special. After injuring herself twice in clumsy accidents and needing to update her regular STD tests anyway, Ember heads for the doctor’s office, where she finally has an epiphany about the sheer number of guys she’s been sleeping with and wonders if it might be time for a change. Then she literally runs into hot guy number two as she’s leaving the medical complex. Colt invites her to dinner and says he has a proposition for her. She’s intrigued enough to accept, but after hearing his proposal, she’s at first irritated and thinks he’s judging her for her lifestyle choices. However, he turns out to be very persuasive and Ember has never been one to back down from a challenge. Over the next few weeks, the way Colt romances her really starts to melt her heart, but she still blames herself for things that happened in the past and thinks Colt will, too. Then there’s Colt’s friend who makes Ember believe that this was all nothing but a game to him. Alone in the world, Ember has barely been living while trying to cover up the pain of the past, but Colt makes her feel alive again in a way she didn’t think was possible. All she really needed was for someone to show her they cared and to show her what she was truly worth and Colt really stepped up to the plate to be that person for her.
The last several times, he’s been out to Shot Therapy with his friends, Colt has seen the beautiful blond woman who always leaves with a different guy. Being a little old-fashioned when it comes to love and romance, he can’t help giving her a hard time when she offers to buy some strange man a drink. She brushes Colt off, but he can’t stop thinking about her. Feeling a beautiful woman like her deserves far more than all the meaningless hookups she appears to be engaging in week after week, he comes up with his proposal, and when he chances to run into her at the medical complex where he works, it offers the perfect opportunity to ask her out. From night one, Colt plays the perfect gentleman, treating Ember like a real lady, and even comes to her rescue during a medical emergency, tenderly caring for her afterward. Although he didn’t initially intend for their relationship to be anything other than an experiment, he slowly starts to fall for her until he knows he wants her in his life always. But when Ember disappears on him and he finds her in a compromising position, his heart is broken as he fears that she’s gone back to her old ways. Colt is a confident, but beta-leaning hero who is sweet, generous, and compassionate. He’s not the usual plastic surgeon who caters to vain, wealthy people, and when I found out the true nature of his work, it was utterly heartwarming. He’s a man who genuinely wants to help people, and although perhaps a tad meddlesome, that’s all he really wants to do for Ember when he makes his proposal to her. He turns out to be a swoon-worthy hero who treats her in the most romantic ways without going over the top, instead just paying attention and listening. Colt isn’t perfect, though, and must find a way to trust Ember and get over his own hangups about her past in order to find an HEA.
Overall, Cured was a lovely read about a woman who’d been through a lot and has finally found the one man who could make her feel loved and cherished again. I thought that Colt and Ember made a great couple and were well-suited to one another. Their romance is sweet and tender with a little steam on the side, but it’s mostly about them getting to know one another and Colt showing Ember her true value. That said, I thought that perhaps their characterizations could have gone a bit deeper. Ember has been mired in six years of grief that was perhaps overcome a little too quickly and magically, but when she was finally able to open up to Colt, it was a sweet moment, nonetheless. While I loved Colt’s plastic surgeon persona, we don’t learn a lot about his background. We do get to meet his mom, who’s engaged to a much younger man, but both are very nice people. Otherwise, there’s not much else about Colt’s life. Colt’s friend/nurse who decides to interject herself into his personal space could have used a little stronger motivations, too. I understood that she wanted Colt for herself, but after several years of him saying no, one might think she’d have gotten a clue. She also seemed a little too willing to blow up a long-term friendship and jeopardize her own job just for spite, but I guess there are people out there like that. The one other thing that I thought could have been better is the editing, mainly because the dialogue was too stilted and needed a lot more contractions and there was an overabundance of winking. Otherwise, though, I really enjoyed Cured and it’s left me very interested in continuing the series to see Colt’s other friends get their HEAs, too. It definitely hit me in the feels, so much so that I came close to giving it keeper status. There were just those few little things that kept it from getting over that hump, but it was a strong 4-star read for me. Anyone who loves a gentlemanly hero who knows how to romance a lady paired with a heroine who has a little healing to do will probably enjoy it as much as I did.
Ember and Trudy were at NightCaps having a drink when Ember caught a good looking guys eye. Ember went over and asked if she could buy the guy a drink. Colt (who is a plastic surgeon) asked Ember if that line really worked. Ember looked at him and thought he was way more handsome than the guy she was hitting on, but he had all the trappings of being rich so out of her league. Ember just ignored him and went back to her table with the other guy. Colt had noticed Ember for the last six months picking up guys and leaving with them. She intrigued him for some reason. When Colt left the bar he saw Ember and the other guy staggering down the street and followed them to make sure nothing happened to them. Colt decided he wanted to help Ember. Ember was walking through the medical center when she ran into someone. She ran right into Colt. He asked her if she would have dinner with him as he wanted to put a proposition to her. She didn't know why she accepted his invitation, but she did.
After they ate, Colt told her that she was a beautiful woman that needed to stop picking up men as she was better than that. She was upset with him at first for judging her. She finally listened to him as he told her she needed to think more of herself and should be treated as a loving woman. He wants her to date him for four weeks. He wants her to be only with him and no sex. He wants to show her how a woman should be treated. You need to read the book to see how this experiment turns out! You will be glad you did.
This is a great book. There are some twists you don't expect. Ember had some terrible things happen to her that made her feel like she shouldn't be alive. Colt has a friend that isn't really his friend, but is a jealous woman. She doesn't make his relationship easy. Colt is such a good person and uses his skills as a plastic surgeon to help others. I loved his mother and her boyfriend. They were not what I expected. I strongly encourage you to read this book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.
Wonderful Story & Audible Listen🎧 Captivating & Heartfelt! Cured Heal Me Series, Book 1 By: Stacy Eaton Narrated by: Jack Ares, Sophia Laroche
I throughly enjoyed this book, it is well written with interesting storylines that are captivating from start to end. The characters are realistic and easy to relate to. I adored both leads, my heart went out to Ember, you could tell she was hiding her inner demons and they were holding her back from enjoying life and moving forward. Colt Barnes was a true hero, he saw something in her the minute he laid eyes on her. They were two people from different worlds who clicked, Colt had his work cut out for him because Ember thought he was out of her league, she also had self worth issues. Sick of living a life of weekly one night stands she takes Colt up on the challenge he presented her with, a challenge that will change both of their lives. I loved his patience with her, how he was getting through to her. I also loved how everything played out in this book, the story is beautifully plotted and flows naturally. There is never a dull moment and there is plenty of drama, some angst, twists, heartfelt moments and some great romance. Stacy Eaton, thank you for the wonderful story and the emotional rollercoaster ride.
I listened to the Audible edition, Jack Ares and Sophia Laroche are terrific narrators and voice artists. They did a great job portraying the characters and bringing them to life, giving each their own voice and personality. You could hear how much heart they put into their performance as they captured and projected the characters emotions it into their performance. They are entertaining storytellers and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for the great listen🎧
The pain of Ember’s past was too much to handle, so she used alcohol and sex to help her forget. After breaking two toes and getting a black eye, Ember finally admitted what a mess her life was and that she needed to make some changes and clean her act up. Colt was a busy surgeon that would join his friends at the local bar, Shot Therapy, a couple of times a week to relax and de-stress. Colt had noticed Ember at the bar several times that he had been there, and it seemed that she always left with a different man. On a night when both happened to be at a bar, Colt witnessed Ember offering to buy a man a drink, when Colt interrupted, to tell her that it was the man that was supposed to buy the lady a drink, she gave him the cold shoulder. Ember had noticed Colt before and realized that he was a doctor. Ember felt that she didn’t deserve a man like Colt. It bothers Colt that Ember had no regard for herself and he was determined to make her see that she deserved a better life. When they literally bump into each other outside Colt’s office, he decided it was the perfect time to challenge Ember. Go out with him for 4 weeks and let him show her how it is to be treated like a lady. Can Colt help her realize that she deserves more and cure her from the need to have meaningless sex? The is a wonderful story of how a broken heart can lead you down a path of destruction and how love can help you pull yourself up out of the mire. It is not an easy climb and of course there is always a Witch trying to knock you back down. Kudos to Stacy Eaton! Can not wait for the next book.
I kind of liked this book, even though the start of Ember and Colt’s relationship was a bit unrealistic , but the other woman drama at the end was really annoying.
Ember is constantly having one night stands because she wants to forget her past . Colt is drawn to Ember and proposes a challenge to her: let him treat her how she should be treated for 4 weeks while she stops her one night stands. They go out and eventually admit that they have feelings for each other and date for real.
I didn’t mind the main characters and while the idea of the challenge was fun, a lot of the time was skipped. Also, I didn’t like how there were chapters which started with a recap of what happened in the previous one, just from the other main character’s POV.
There were some side characters, but I really didn’t like Colt’s friends, who were all snobby and judgemental when it came to Ember. The other woman drama was predictable and I didn’t like it since Colt knew about her interest in him and yet he just kind of ignored it.
Even though this book was fine, I’m not going to continue with the series because I didn’t like any of the side characters.
Cured, the first book of the Heal Me Series, follows the characters of Colt and Ember. Ember is a young woman who is moving through life in a fog. She sleeps with a different man each week. She finds momentary pleasure without the emotional investment. Colt is a do-gooder plastic surgeon who notices Ember at the bar where she picks up men. He asks her out on a date where he challenges her to date him for a month during which he will show her how a “good man” should treat her. From the beginning, these two feel complete in each other. Colt understands that Ember has a trauma from her past that keeps her emotionally stunted. He wants to help her “heal” from this trauma. Will he help her heal and find love at the same time?
Given Ember’s secret, I thought the story would include more angst than was actually offered in the story. If you like a man who is both parts alpha and gentle, then you will love Colt, and his connection with Ember. If you like a story where there is a moment of angst, but it doesn’t last for an indeterminate time, then you will love this story. Colt and Ember do not struggle too much with each other, so their relationship is able to blossom easily. For the most part, this book, given its subject matter, is sweet. I liked this relationship, and I knew a HEA was in line for Colt and Ember.
Cured is a beautifully-composed and captivating story about the capacity to love and to heal what's been broken. The storyline is character-focused, and Stacy Eaton has done a phenomenal job in their development. Ember and Colt, are utterly genuine, multi-faceted with emotional depth, and the capacity for growth. The secondary characters are a great addition, creating elements of drama, particularly within the family.
Moreover, the premise of how some deal with emotional pain and the all-powerful guild is brilliantly depicted. Ember's method is to shut the door to her heart and throw away the key. When Cold sees her bouncing from one random man to another, his natural inclination to fix and heal leads him to challenge Ember. The outcome is unexpected for both; forming a connection that is authentic, powerful, passionate, and sensual. Together they define the potential of real human connection through love, understanding, trust, and ultimately, healing.
Stellar performances by Jack Ares and Sophia Laroche. Both narrators honed in on the characters, channelling their personalities and emotions, bringing the entirety of the story to life for the listener.
Cured is wonderfully written with an incredible storyline and characters, one I strongly recommend. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook, and my unbiased review is voluntarily given.
What's Ember's story and why does she pick up men like chefs pick up tomatoes at a Farmer's Market. Although to be fair, chefs seem to be a little more choosey. Dr. Colt Barnes has noticed Ember Greene before as she picks up men and heads out to presumably have another one nighter. He's attracted to her, but wants to know her reasoning for this behavior and finally gets a chance one day to make her a proposition. It's a proposition he begins to regret very early on in the relationship, but somehow, they both muster on. These two characters totally misunderstand each other and the only two other characters that seem to have their act together is Colt's 59 year old mother and her hot 38 year old financee. Yep, being an older lady myself, I love this relationship! But that aside, the reader keeps wanting to get to the bottom of Ember's story as much as Dr. Barnes. Colt is a dedicated plastic surgeon and Ember works at a dead end job in a furniture store. Can these two people from such different spectrums really find a HEA? Not if they listen to some of the people that surround them. A good first story that begins the "Heal Me" series. Looking forward to reading about some of the other characters that show up in this first book.

"This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review"
I know when I begin a Stacy Eaton book, I am in for a treat. Each one of her stories includes a realistic couple that makes it so easy to understand and relate, it makes the book more enjoyable. This one features a broken woman, Ember. She uses sex as her escape from a painful past. When Colt, a plastic surgeon takes an interest in her for the woman she is, she is taken back. Colt is at a point in his life that he wants to find the one. He just wasn't aware it would be a glance in a bar that brought him Ember. Now these two have a lot to go over. Obstacles, hurts, and family all play a role in this event of healing. I found this story extremely refreshing. It's a pleasure to have a man see through the facade to the real woman. Eaton even adds some real life family drama with the addition of Colt's mother. It's a fun listen with a great message.
The narration by Jack Ares and Sophia Laroche brings this story to life. Both are new to me and I enjoyed their duet style, the pacing and their voices. It is a listen to enjoy.
Stacy Eaton is a new to me author and I am so glad that I was given the opportunity to read one of her books as part of this tour!! Stacy Eaton is a wonderful writer who describes the characters in such a way, that you can picture them in your mind's eye in perfect detail and also feel like they are a real part of your life. This book was definitely not what I expected...and in a really, really good way!!! This book was full of twists and turns in the story that I never saw coming, which made this book all the more enjoyable to read. This book was not some generic romance novel with the same old characters and the same old plot. This book is filled with real life scenarios that the reader can relate to and experience right alongside the characters. This book was real and raw and I was so captured by the story that I read the book in one day! I am so pleased by the experience that I had with Stacy Eaton's writing, that I will for sure be reading the rest of this series as well as be picking up other books by this author.
What a great romance read / listen. I really loved the characters - Ember (great name by the way) is so tragically broken and we see that from the very beginning. Colt (again a great name) is a Dr so I think it's in his nature to "fix" things. Both of these characters have issues to resolve but love will cure them both! Well written with great flawed characters that come together for a beautiful HEA. The twists and turmoil they go thru to get there comes across realistic, most people at some point in their lives have has to face at least one of the obstacles they face. The narration was good but not great for me. I did really like the dual narration. Good storyline and flow through out and I'm looking forward to listening to more from Eaton!
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review. *this review is based on the audio version of this read
Each chapter started with a backtrack to the last scene, from the other character’s point of view. I found that to be confusing (especially if I’d put the book down between reading) and repetitious. I get that Ember was hurting from her tragic past, but the way she acted and how she treated her friend in the first scene put me off, and I never really warmed up to her. We all want to believe someone will come along and love even the ugly parts of us, but Colt was a little too perfect, swooping in to “save” Ember from herself (and of course, there was his work with kids). I just couldn’t see why he was drawn to her especially knowing how many men she’d been with. Sexual attraction flares from day one of their “no sex” arrangement, which also felt weird given that Colt set the rule. And apparently the “cure” to Ember’s grief and addiction to sex is… Sex. With Colt, of course. I tried, but I just couldn’t get into these characters.
What a great kick off to a new series. I enjoyed reading this story about Ember and Colt. It was an interesting twist to have the girl, Ember using alcohol and one night stands to fumble through life and attempt to forget about her past. Colt being a plastic surgeon and appears to have himself all together. Ember and Colt cross paths in a bar that they both frequent and even though Colt approaches Ember, she dismisses him as too good for her. Colt is patient and continues to notice Ember at the bar until one day he decides to challenge her. Ember accepts and the story just runs away from there. This was a great book to read, a solid story line that was easy to read and enjoy, great characters that were strong and realistic and of course lots of heat and emotion. Great start to a new series. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book as an ARC from Hidden Gems.
Plastic surgeon, Colt Barnes, is hanging out with friends at the local bar when he spies a young woman that catches his eye. When she leaves with a random guy, Colt follows her and realizes that she was just hooking up. Days later, Colt runs into her and proposes a challenge...he wants her to spend some time finding meaning in life, dates only w/o sex. Ember Greene has been barely living over the past several years and has been having random hookups. Then she runs into the handsome man from the bar. Since she was having a bad couple of days, Ember doesn’t run when Colt challenges her to value herself more highly. Even though the pair are dating, Ember is insecure about herself and Colt’s friends are questioning his motives. Can the thin bond of a relationship survive miscommunication, mistrust and a jealous woman? Enjoyable story with great narration. Looking forward to the next book.
I ended up loving this story. At first I was distracted by the chapters alternating between the points of view of the two main characters. But then I came to really enjoy this structure. Each scene or encounter had two ways of looking at it, and the more this happened, the better I came to know each of them. Of course there were other characters in the story, but I also came to know them also by their contact with the two lead characters.
Ember has a tragic past that makes her who she is today. Her difficulties in coming to grips with what happened shape her life dramatically. Colt, on the other hand, seems to have it all together, but after meeting Ember he realizes that his life has been missing something. It's very enjoyable to watch this caring friendship turn into passionate, deep love. I'm looking forward to more stories in this series!
When Ember died inside years ago, nothing could touch her anymore; she wanders feeling numb. She escapes her past and her boring life by filling the void by drinking and sleeping around; sex is the only thing that can make her feel like she’s still partly alive somehow….That is until she meets Colt but she swore she would stay away from hot, sexy rich men. Colt is drawn to Ember and he wants to help her and save her from herself. Tragedy can destroy someone but sometimes all you need to get past it is a reality check, the love and help from someone else to open up to life once again. I really liked this modern knight in shining armor love story.
For the past several years, Ember preferred one night stands then getting involved in a relationship…it makes life much easy for her and it helps hide her pain…a pain that she prefers not to share with anyone! Colt, a plastic surgeon, has seen Ember leave the local bar “Shot Therapy” several times and always with a different guy! Even though she seems to like these one night stands, he feels she has much more to offer someone and when he finally meets her, he offers her a challenge…a challenge that will change their lives forever! A challenge in which she will date him, and only him for 4 weeks, so he can show her how she deserves to be treated. Colt is ecstatic when she accepts his challenge, but will they both regret it before it’s even over? Great read!
4.5 Stars This is book one of the Heal Me series and it features Colt and Ember. Wow! This book takes you on an emotional roller coaster. Colt is a beautiful humanitarian. He wants to help everyone and in his medical practice, he does. Also, his patient gift bags are AWESOME! He’s an amazing man. I was surprisingly shocked at his tattoos. I am wondering about his choice of friends though. Walker is an irritating gossip and Whitney belongs in the psych ward. His proposition to Ember totally sounded like a come-on but it was honest. My heart broke for her and all that she’d been through. Her struggles were real and extremely tragic.
Fantastic story line and characters. I’m definitely interested in reading more from this fabulous author.
This is a book one of a new series by Stacy and I just love her writing. Ember is broken. She's been through some things and she's stopped living. She i just going through the motions and keeping herself numb. Colt has everything going for him and yet, he is missing something. He sees something in Ember and presents her with a challenge to try to help her get her life back in order. What they both find is maybe what has been missing all along. This is an emotional journey. There are ups and downs but it's a really sweet story. This is a great story of second-chances, oh healing oneself and helping others. It's of finding service and finding love. I really enjoyed the story and can't wait to see where book two takes us, our characters and the supporting cast.
Love this series from Stacy Eaton!! I really love that she tells the story in both POV. Ember Green had a very traumatic experience and since that day she struggles to feel so she bounces from lover to lover. When Dr Colt Barnes lays eyes on Ember, he can not get her out of his mind. Colt convinces Ember to try a relationship with him, stop sleeping around, and when she does her heart slowly opens!! Everyone must read this spectacular love story and learn how love can really heal a broken heart!! Don't hesitate to one click this book!! You will learn how Ember went from lost to lusting then to true love!! Very easy read..read it in one sitting...Could not stop once I started!!
Ember Greene lives hand-to-mouth and works a lower class furniture store, while Colt Barnes has a six-figure bank balance and lives in luxury. They make an unlikely couple, but love has its own agenda, even though neither of them wants to follow them. This book made for a fun afternoons read.
I like that Ember was actually strong even though she was damaged and Colt was able to see the real woman. Stacy Eaton really fleshed out the characters and gave them a humanity I could relate to. It makes me want to read other books in the series. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
WOW what a story! The title says it all. Ember really needed to be cured. She was in so much emotion pain. She thought she could fight her demonds with sex. Until she accidentally met Colt. He knew who Embre was from the bar. Colt knew how many men she was with. He offered her an amazing proposal. Hopefully it will help cure Embre. I love how Stacy Eaton writes her stories from both characters. I highly recommend, you will not be disappointed.

This is the first book in the Heal Me Series. I loved it! Ember and Colt story is sweet, and beautiful. Ember has a heartbreaking past. She is a strong and beautiful woman. Colt is an amazing man, protective and caring. They are great together. I love the ending. The supporting characters are great. Jack Ares and Sophia Laroche did an entertaining reading of this story. They are both new narrators to me. They have a great voice, easy to understand. I enjoyed it! Looking forward to listen to the next book in the Series, Revived.
Ember has shut her feelings off since a tragedy and deals with it with drinking and one night stands, working a dead end job and barely surviving. Colt is a special kind of plastic surgeon and sees Ember at the bar and wonders what causes a beautiful woman like her to settle for so little, even though he does not have a girlfriend himself. A four week challenge turns into a forever love for them both.
Love finds a way Ember has a history of one-night stands, but when Colt meets her he really doesn’t care. As a plastic surgeon he deals with children to promote their chance for a better life. He finally gets Ember to go out with him, and their story is inspiring. Great characters, story, and writing. Looking forward to the rest of the series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
At first I was concerned that the main character of this book was going to bring me down with her mistreatment of others and total emotional disconnect from others, but you soon understand why she is the way she is.
The love that then grows between her and Colt is very simple and amazing, no big rich guy trying to control the female character, no big hang ups in his past - just a sweet man who falls for a girls.
