Everything you thought you knew about Shape-shifters is a lie. Shape-shifters are Shadow Guardians, ethereal animal spirits who protect humans from darkness. But not all Guardians are good.
When 17-year-old Leila discovers a tattoo-like spiral on her arm, she learns she's been marked to become a Guardian. With fatal animal attacks and missing people on the rise, Leila fears that becoming a Guardian will turn her into a monster.
Leila confides in her supernatural-loving friend, Riley. As they work together to stop her from turning, they must also navigate their growing feelings for each other. But as the details of her mark become clearer, things get complicated—if she doesn’t find the person who scarred her and turn soon, Leila is marked for death.
She must decide: to shift or die.
Combining the folklores of shifters, angels, and werewolves, Ever Marked is "Teen Wolf" meets "The Mortal Instruments", creating a new myth for Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance lovers to sink their teeth into. Buy your copy to start the hunt today.

I really enjoyed this book. Leila discovers a spiral tattoo and goes on a wild goose chase to find out who put it there. People in her school are disappearing or ending up with the same tattoo, and she is on a time limit to figure things out. If she doesn't get it figured out in time, she may die. This book was fun, interesting, and kept me on the edge of my seat. I loved it.
I flew through this book in a day, it was a fast, easy, and super fun read! The humor was quirky and adorable, the plot kept you guessing, and I was pleased to discover that my guesses were wrong! My favorite character would have to be Riley. He’s my sweet cinnamon roll and I was on pins and needles the whole time, wanting everything wonderful to happen to him. This is a creative take on shapeshifting and yet there’s still some endearing tropes sprinkled in that are very familiar. Fans of Twilight and The Vampire Diaries should love this, and it’s good for a younger teen audience as well!
I have been a fan of Elle Scott for a few years now. It all started as a journey out of my comfort zone and into the future. A future that is known as dystopian in the literary world. Normally I wouldn't explore that genre but I figured that I would give it a go. Her first book "Ray of Light" is part of the "Incandescent Series" and I signed up for her newsletters which is how I found out about "Ray of Light" and became an instant fan. Her newsletters and her stories are genuine, personable and Ms. Scott always reaches out and responds to her followers/fans. Flash forward to the present and to her new series Shadow Guardians. Again, I find myself exploring uncharted territories and again, Elle Scott doesn't disappoint. I typically don't follow paranormal stories, but this story intrigued me right from the beginning. The way that she separated her chapters is excellent in that she took the time to let us know the time of day and did so without slowing the story. Her skill at setting in this genre and in this story is impeccable. I recently finished my Master's in Writing and found myself appreciating her writing, her skills even more. She not only entertained me and showed me a new world, but her work inspires me and helps me with how I want to write and should. Moving onto the story, we are being told this story from an outside perspective which begs the question -who is watching Leila's life unfold. Right from the beginning, we are thrown into the action. Leila has strange glowing Mark on her arm but doesn't know how it got there. Her boyfriend and best friend Riley helps her on her journey to find out how it got there and who put it there. Throughout the story we are led by the narrator along twists and turns trying to find out who marked Leila, why and if she will be a good guardian or a fallen one. The fallen are the ones killing people in the woods and doing other strange things. The story ends as it should but does it really end? On a final note, throughout this story, you will find yourself second guessing the suspects, friends, enemies and yourself.
The news reports people are being attacked and killed in her town by 'animal attacks'. One day a mysterious marking of a spiral on Leila's lower forearm appears. She and her best friend Riley research the mark and learned she was marked by someone and she will become either a Guardian who protects people or a Fallen who attacks and kills people. I love that Leila is kind, intelligent, protective, scared and determined to find out who marked her. Will she protect people or become a dreaded Fallen and destroy people? This book has action, danger, shape-shifters, attacks, mystery, friendships, family, plot twists and romance. This book will draw you in, have you turning pages and trying to guess who marked her.
So this was amazing read for me I really loved it.
Name of the main character is similar to mine. She is Leila (Leilani) and I am Lejla. She is like my spirit animal. Full of sarcasm, jokes when they are unnecessary.... Her life is amazing , I adore her. She even has amazing boyfriend and then she becomes a shifter (powerful one). I want that tooo
Riley is so cute, kind and unreal. I am so happy Leila found him.
She also has amazing friends.....
I recommend it to everyone who loves shifters and fantasy.
But really is epilogue like this neccessary. I am crying because of it....
What an awesome story! I absolutely loved reading this story! I am a fan of supernatural and paranormal stories. This one has shifters or in this case they are called guardians. There’s good ones who are True and evil ones who are Fallen. I was hooked from the very start. I am totally loving the characters! So much suspense and action and romance it’s just AWESOME! I highly recommend this story. I really hope there will be another book soon! I need more of this story. It’s so GOOD. I love how instead of say Angels protecting it’s guardians shifters! So Cool!
This is an awesome start to this series and I just couldn't put it down! Well written I was immediately drawn into this world. I adored the characters, the storyline and the background mythology, this is one Urban fantasy / paranormal romance I just can't wait until the next book comes out!
I enjoyed the way she changed the dynamics of what a shifter is and what animals people can turn into. It made for a very interesting twist.
I enjoyed the overall storyline it was a great adventure to finding out what had happened and why. The only thing I didn't like at times was Leila's inner monologue.
The way the relationship developed was great and Riley was a great character. I look forward to seeing how the overall story arc develops.
Oh my word talk about a lot going on and mystery and outcomes you think will go one way go another. I was loving every minute of the book. Very much do I recommend this book
Disclaimer: I love Shifter Books. Before I even start reading them I am predisposed to liking them and when I do, the day is a joy to behold; when I don’t, I lay on the couch under a blanket, staring at the ceiling and feeling incredibly sorry for myself. I love the idea of Shifters and Magic and Mystical things because I have always believed that there’s more to the world than just the little pieces we know of it. The possibility of more-ness is more of a probability to me because there must be more: I mean, if we don’t even fully understand the vastness of the ocean, then who is to say that there aren’t people out there with the amazing gift of being able to bring forth their spirit animal? And why, oh, why can't I?
So I started this book wanting to like it (as I want to like every book I review) and OH! This one was a beauty!
I’m going to do this in sections while trying to keep my thoughts straight because otherwise I’m liable to ramble and write this review like a hot and happy mess.
The Characters:
There are a group of main characters in this book and for the most part they are all teenagers and I like them all. They have depth and kindness, sass and fire, and even though they have their own personal things going on, I really appreciated that they actively pursued kindness. They let themselves be kids and yes there are boys and relationships but the main characters are smart, level-headed and respectful on both sides. As a mother with kids about to enter high school I do tend to actively search for books with young characters who have… character, in spite of who may be acting differently around them.
And the parents were awesome! Thank goodness, because I am so tired of parents being written as completely ignorant and unaware. These parents were cool and smart and set boundaries! And they say you can’t have it all!
I loved these characters, not because they were perfect, but because they consciously strove to be kinder and better and helped each other to be so as well. I recognize the importance of having good friends who hold you accountable at every stage of your life but who also readily accept you for who you are.
The main female character, Leilani Belmonte (Leila to her friends) is caught up in something so far out of her scope of understanding and totally beyond her reality and it’s her friends who support her. That was one of my favourite parts of reading this book.
Leila (coz we’re friends now 😉) is afraid, but she’s also smart and courageous and insightful and in spite of her fear, she seeks to find the truth and to do the right thing. This girl strives to build others up and to be kind to them in spite of themselves, even when it would be perfectly understandable for her to just give in to being mean. This heroine has the heart of a lion and she and her friends are the type of young people that it’s a pleasure to read about.
The Story
You should absolutely judge this book by its cover because the cover is a thing of beauty!
Good characters are great but they’re only as good as the story allows them to be. This story is an adventure, with plots and twists that keep you on your toes from beginning to end. This story is so well written with the plot so well developed that it allows the characters to shine.
This story is engrossing and amazing to read. It’s very different to shifter books that I’ve read before because there are so many other different elements that are involved – but they’re knitted together so neatly, so efficiently and with such precision that the story just keeps you engaged from the very first word. Every time I thought I had it down and figured it out it pulled the rug out of under me.
It drove me crazy in the very, very best way.
I wish I could share details with you but I hate giving away spoilers but if you read this incredible book, I promise you that you will not be disappointed.
Personally, I cannot wait for the next book in what I hope will be a long and successful series!
More like 2.5 stars Where should I begin? Hello, I'm really mad, what's your name? That is the level of jokes in this book. But never mind that. I liked the cover of the book and decided to read the blurb based on a rather high rating and really liked it, upon reading reviews with glowing recommendations about a smart, quirky heroine full of sarcasam and badass personality I thought:"Wow I could really enjoy this book!" So long story short I decided to read it.
At first I thougth that it was really fast paced and hoped for a bit of a background story in the begining at least about the main character but nope. Nothing. Nada. Zero. The author went in to the plot like a porche on a highway (really fast and compensating for something)... Listen, I don't mean anything in a bad way, actually I really liked the idea an if it were better put together I would love the book, but I'm sorry, it was half-assed. The "badass heroine" didn't know her head from her tail, going in circles, listening to her boyfriend(who is a bit controling for my taste) then defying him. Her friends are just fill in characters and there is no development of their personality or any development at all as a matter of fact. To sum up even though there a lot of flaws the book isn't that terrible, there are some really enjoyable scenes but what actually set me off were the glowing reviews. I understand that we percieve books in a diferent way but come on! Have we read the same book? Sorry for the rant, this was the first book I read by Elle Scott and I would like to read more even though I didn't really like this book.
I for one couldn't get enough of this new take on shifters and supernatural lore. Growing up with a mum that's an academic in folklore has never been all that important. Who knew just how ironic her mums work would become to her life? Leila is a typical teen. Crushing on her male BFF Riley, and excited the folks are leaving her big brother Kale and she alone thanks to a conference. How was she to know her entire world would change in an instant? After her brother took her to dinner to meet his mysterious new girlfriend, she suddenly find a mysterious spiral tattoo thing on her arm. Not long after she gets the worst flu of her life that literally puts her in bed for close to a week. All she knows is she DIDN'T get a tattoo on her own accord, and has no clue where it came from. The fact it's started glowing freaks her out that much more! Add to that she's suddenly got crazy energy and strength?? What the heck is going on and how can she hide this from her Brother? People in their community are being killed in its animal attacks, and others at school are turning up with similar tattoos and changes in looks and personality. Have alien 👽 pod people taken over her town? Asking with her close knit group of friends and best friend turned boyfriend, they're out to figure what's going on. I honestly could NOT put this book down!! I read it in one sitting and it left me greedily wanting MORE MORE MORE!!! I've read other books by this author and they never disappoint! I for one can't wait for book two to finally come out 😊🦁♥️
Ok, so I have to admit that I'm incredibly disappointed with this book. I've been excited for it ever since I saw the cover reveal and blurb in the newsletter from this author. So when I started it I was almost quivering with excitement and I did enjoy it at first but it slowly started to become a let down and I found myself disliking the main character and the whole book more and more. I really wanted to love this book and I kept finding redeeming qualities, like how the idea if this world is unique perspective and shifting into an animal that's based solely upon each person to the person is quite interesting but there was just so much that I disliked that by the last 25% I was cringing and could only read a couple chapters at a time. I kept going because I couldn't give up then hope that I would fall for it but I was ready to be done well before the end. I couldn't connect to any of the characters and the overall story felt incredibly rushed. There are a few other reasons I didn't like this book, like how much I disliked the tortured love interest, Riley and how bizarre it is that Leilani's dad only has a tiny little moment in the whole book... but I don't want to write paragraphs filled with negativity so I'll just leave it at that. I won't reread this book and I don't recommend it to anyone I know.
I loved the idea of spirit animals and then the story of how Guardians came to be towards the end. Truly beautiful and I can not wait for the next one. ❤
Spoiler time... I did not see Riley being William, I mean I kind of suspected he was secretly a guardian the way he kept trying to keep Leila away from danger but I didnt think he was her guardian. So heres the scoop, small town outside of Seattle (honestly makes me think of Twilight here) and they find themselves in a hot spot for all kinds of strange activities. Leila and her older brother are home alone for the week with their parents out of town when Leila gets sick over the weekend and wakes up with a strange mark of swirls on her arm. Turns out the swirls design is the mark of a guardian, only hers is the new mark that means she hasnt gone through the change yet. There are two types of Guardians, the True which are the protectors and the Fallen which as you can guess are the villains. Leila doesnt know who marked her so she doesnt know if shes going to be good or evil and lately the evil are making a big statement with a spree of animal attacks and fatalities in town. It turns out that Leila isnt the only newly marked person, many of her classmates have been marked as well. Leila, her friends and her boyfriend are on the hunt to uncover the truth behind whsts going on and the truth is revealed in a big way.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I desperately wanted to like this book. Supporting local authors is important to me, but I just could not enjoy this. Pretty cover be damned.
It was rushed. So, so rushed. Like a whirlwind that landed in my lap with a supposed "tough female leader" character, a creepily obsessed boyfriend, some very uncomfortable teacher/student interactions... and an entire lore of shapeshifting unheard of anywhere else.
Leila is clearly meant to be the badass babe, but her boyfriend constantly bosses her around and commands her to do things. She often listens. Sometimes she rebels, and laments about how she's rebelling. There's so much backstory missing, and a lot of messing about to no solution; it simply wasn't a good read.
Most of this book made me cringe. I pushed through to finish it as it was the first book I read for 2020, but I will never read it again nor suggest it to anyone.
I’m thinking Elle Scott has a supernatural ability to write the most satisfying and exhausting books EVER! Ever Marked is such a compelling read. The characters are so...real. Especially Leila, who embodies all that is strong and big hearted. And the bad guys are really really bad. Gotta love that! The idea of shifters being guardians is one I haven’t seen elsewhere, it makes this book unique for me. There’s plenty of action, good battling evil. And who was it who marked Leila with the Guardian spiral? I loved every single word and take heart from the title. There will be more books and I can’t wait.
Loved this, the characters were what did it for me
I loved the concept and knew it be something I enjoyed. Firstly, the one thing I loved the most was the characters. Their witty humour and closeness, I was totally invested in them. Also, I just loved the writing style. It was so fluid and the dialogue so genuine.
I sort of guessed the twist at the end, but it didn’t matter as it still excited me.
There are lots of shifter books out, but they all have their elements, just like this one did. Was a little sad to finish the book.
This is the first Elle's book I have read and I loved it so much!!!... My favorite books are paranormal romance with shifters, but this story is unique, I really loved Elle's approach of the shifters world and how they originated and transform humans into one of them... And, of course, the love story of our main caracthers... Couldn't put it down, amazing start of this series!!! ❤️❤️❤️
I enjoyed the unique and creative spin on shifters! The entire world building is a great start to a new series. If you like shifters and young adult life then this book is for you. Four glittery stars!
Awesome but I want more. I need to know what happens next. The characters such you in and there are twists that keep you guessing and you don’t know who’s who in the beginning.
