This doesn't fell like a fic you can read without some knowledge of the canon series/characters. That's not a bad thing, esp. since in-and-of itself it can inspire interest in the source material. But sadly this fic really just isn't good.
This is decent ABO fic, with okay characterization, semi-good sex, and pretty absymal writing. There's pockets of shine here, but only brief moments.
Thankfully I have just enough knowledge of the canon that although this is the first fic I've read for the series I got through this fine, but even with the obvious (and actually good) references to the source material, this is just basic fic. It doesn't inspire me to read the All for the Game books, and even if I was a part of the fandom I wouldn't recommend this fic.
That being said I do plan to read more by this author, if only because I'm at least interested in the fanfic side of the series and this author has a lot of material for it that sounds appealing.
