A new standalone romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author, JA Huss, and Actor/Screenwriter, Johnathan McClain. EDEN I’m just a simple girl who likes dessert. And sexy men. And social media. So starting an anonymous video channel called The Sexpert as a side hustle to make up for my low-paying marketing job at Le Man Magazine seemed like a perfectly sensible career decision. Until we went viral, my boss accused my anonymous personality of stealing his idea, and now my super sexy new boyfriend, Andrew, is out to get me. Her. Me. Whatever. ANDREW I don’t want it to be her. I do not want this… sweet, delicious, shy social media nerd working at my best friend’s magazine to be the face behind those perky cupcakes on the Sexpert channel. I don’t want it to be her… because I like her. A lot. She’s funny, and quirky, and smart, and creative… and… I really, really like her. It just can’t be her. But it is. And now I have to choose. My best friend? Or… The Sexpert?
J.A. Huss never wanted to be a writer and she still dreams of that elusive career as an astronaut. She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.
After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.
So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.
She lives on a ranch in Central Colorado with her family.
Eden is the nerdy, awkward girl who happens to have one very fantastic asset. She and her best friend Zoey decide to use that asset as well as their social media talent to start up a YouTube blog called Sexpert. To keep Sexpert anonymous, Eden uses Voice Lift set to the Sultry Siren not only to disguise her voice, but also to fit the Sexpert image.
When Eden's boss hears about the Sexpert video's he's outraged. He's been working on his own idea called Sexpert and believes someone stole it. Pierce asks his best friend Andrew, creator of Voice Lift to help him find the culprit. The same day, Andrew and Eden meet and dance awkwardly around their attraction to each other.
Fun, cute, nerdy and a little bit serious. I really enjoyed this one very much. Romcom is my favorite trope and these two authors did a great job with Eden and Andrew's hilariously awkward romance. For the most part, their story was light and fun. It did get a bit serious and I found myself strangely satisfied with the conflict and how it didn't turn out how I thought it would.
I was happy to read in the author notes that they plan to write more in the Tall, Dark, and Handsome neighborhood. I can't decide if I want to see Zoey or Pierce's story next. Or maybe Myrtl.
Such funny sex scenes! This is my 2nd Huss read (I count her Bully King duet as 1 complete read). So far, she seems to write awkward-funny romance better than NA/teen bully romance.
The GOOD: #1. H&h's banter & interactions were humorous. Especially their sex scenes (i.e., h trying to remember BJ sex-tips while BJ-ing H, H’s peen accidentally poking h on her naked butt, h’s wide-mouth orgasm turns to a hacking cough due to swallowing rainwater). Helped with the book's pacing and S chemistry.
#2. Likable chars Overall, I liked buxomy sexy but awkward & chatty 26/27yo social-media asst h and her new neighbor & boss’ BFF casual artist and app-creator 27yo H. They're both nice, friendly, and well-meaning people. They were also both on the geeky-nerdy side of sexy, which I found different and refreshing.
MEH or the BAD: #1. Average romance & rom development.
#2. H’s California-speak In the 1st few pages, his CA-surfer lingo (i.e., “stoked”, “dude”, and “y’know”) was off-putting & frequent. But soon improved as he spoke it less and his caring and flirty-sexy side came out.
#3. disliked h repeatedly lying to H re: being the Sexpert vlogger She chose to keep lying to H, even though he gave her many outs and offers of help from possible name-patent lawsuit from her boss/his BFF and her reasons to keep lying to him @ the end were weak and her apology was lame, she needed to grovel to H but he ended up apologizing more when it was completely her fault since he’d been honest and supportive of her.
Sexual History: No info on how many previous BFs and lovers h had before H, except that her last lover was a 1-time lover who she didn’t hear from again after she finally “put out” for him. No detail on how long ago that was.
27yo H was celibate for awhile but no specific time on how many months that’s been. He didn’t seem to do ONS and was a serial monogamist but chose “mean” women like his mom. His last lover was his ex-fiance who he was with for 3 years and found himself agreeing to her marriage proposal due to being used to her until she broke it off when she confessed on cheating on him.
Firstly, at least 4 times it is mentioned that someone has a runny nose because of air conditioning. What the hell? Is that a west thing? Because here in the south, we run the AC pretty much 9-10 months out of the year and I don't get sniffles from it. I “dunno” 'bout Colorado folks.
Speaking of “dunno”, it’s used 76 times in this book. Stahhhhhp.
For funsies, she calls her breasts "cupcakes". Repeatedly. And the H calls her cupcake, and her dad calls her cupcake. Kinky.
If you like manic pixie dream girls who have recognizable tits and are awkward as fuck, you'll love this. If, like me, you hate rom-coms and Zooey and heroes that find awkward cuteness very sexy, you'll hate it.
The Sexpert is the fifth baby of the writing duo, Huss & McClain and for those that are one-clicking this based on your love of all things HUSS, you’re in for a treat.
In the midst of the excitement of moving to the Tall Dark & Handsome neighborhood and the sexy stranger in traffic, Eden’s life is about to change. Her sexy videos have gone viral! The only problem is that her boss thinks HE had the idea first and that some harlot must have stolen it from him. Enter Andrew, bestie to the boss and creator of the technology that Eden’s used to hide her identity.
One look at the goods though, and Andrew knows it’s her. But he doesn’t WANT it to be her. Head meet sand.
Eden was adorable. She was this quirky woman, a little unsure of herself and although she used her assets to her benefit for the videos, she really was a little demure. Andrew, who should have been self-assured seemed a little lost. Their conversations were fantastic. I loved them, they were sweet and a little bit skittish.
There were a few parts of this story that had me laughing out loud and while I usually want vivid details during the sexy-time scenes, I loved the banter and mishaps that lead up to the moments.
A sugary-sweet treat from these two that will have you craving more of the folks in this fictitious neighborhood.
‘….the last reason I can’t stop thinking about her is…I like her. ‘
We just enjoyed a funny, sweet, swoony and sexy visit to the TDH, the Tall, Dark and Handsome neighbourhood in Denver, where J A Huss and Johnathan McClain introduced us to a nerdy sweet hero and a sexy down to earth heroine and loads of chemistry! If you love a witty, giggle-worthy look into the inner musing of the male POV, Johnathan McClain will take you there! His male pov was fab and reminded us a little of Emma Chases’ heroes. A little clueless, a lot sexy, continually putting his foot in his mouth and wooing us at every turn! Andrew’s thoughts had us in fits of laughter and Johnathan McClain delivered it perfectly!
Even in her dark suspenseful books, there is an element of wit in J A Huss’s writing, and in The Sexpert, Julie, was able to let her humour fly, with both authors showing us the lighter side of their writing with this wonderful rom-com and we loved it. ‘Cross our hearts’, we did! This dynamic duo is firmly becoming one of our favourite collaborations, and we’ll be 1clicking anything they write! We’ll especially be up for more of the TDH crew!
“Oh, my sweet, sweet Andrew…” She only ever calls me by my name when she’s upset or condescending.
Eden Presley is on her way to her new life, moving into the TDH neighbourhood, on the way, stuck in a traffic jam, she’s asked by a fellow motorist to borrow her phone charger. Eden obliges, there’s an instant attraction, but when the traffic moves, the guy takes off with her charger, never to be seen again….or so she thought. We loved Eden, she was quirky, adorable and so relatable. A wonderful heroine with a vixen hiding in plain clothes written with a great sense of humour and vulnerability.
“Will you eat me like dessert?” I say. “Swirl your tongue around in my frosting and hit my cherry button?” He laughs. “What?” “Oh, my God! I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to say that. I was working on an article for the magazine earlier and that just popped into my head. I’m so -” ‘But the rest of my words get cut off. Because his mouth covers mine in a kiss. ‘
Andrew Hawthorn is an artist, rock climber, and inventor of a vocal software that made him a billionaire, though you’d never know it because Andrew lives a very simple life. Andrew is also moving into the TDH and bumps into Eden at the office of Le Man Magazine. Le Man Magazine happens to be owned by Andrew’s best mate Pierce Chevalier, the quasi Frenchman who cracked us up with his French injected speech. Andrew is given a task; find out who the Sexpert is because Pierce has a bone to pick with her. But what happens when the identity is revealed? Well…all will be revealed!
We loved Andrew, he had us in fits of laughter and his banter with Eden was spot on, so too his interactions with the prickly Pierce which had us grinning like fools! Andrew was de-lush-ious!
“I think that was you, mon petit chou.” “What’s that mean?” “Term of affection. Means, literally, my little cabbage”
There’s a lot to love about this book. It’s the perfect fun loving and flirty escape. Not only will you be entertained but you’ll get some cheeky tips on sugaring and spicing up your love life courtesy of some naughty desserts. Chocolate and Eclairs will never look the same again! We have to say we want Pierce’s book! And Myrtle’s, now there was a lady who has a story to tell and we want to hear it! We thoroughly enjoyed this funny well written romantic comedy and can’t wait for more!

This was such a fun, entertaining read! I’ve always known this author could write anything and I’d love it, but each time it’s so new and fresh and wonderful and Sexpert had the addition of some fantastic humor to push it even further up the scale of awesomeness.
It’s a good day for Eden, but when her friend calls to let her know that their sex advice vlog has gone viral, the day couldn’t get any better. Except when a man from the car stuck next to her in a traffic jam knocks on her window and suddenly the day absolutely gets better. It’s got to be too good to be true.
Andrew’s friend implores him to help track down the vlogger that has stolen his idea. They have a tight past together and so he agrees, although his mind is definitely not on the videos but on the cute and quirky woman he recently met. The more he interacts with Eden the harder he falls. And now what he needs more than anything is the truth and he’s not getting it.
I loved everything about this book! Eden was the type of heroine I love to read about. She’s kind of klutzy, definitely quirky, wears glasses, and rambles a lot but she’s not a ditz. She’s smart and kind and everyone likes her. I personally loved her! And I don’t put a lot of weight on the heroines, I’m about the heroes. But Huss did a freaking fantastic job of this one!
Andrew had a distinctive voice that I locked onto and grew to expect at every turn (McClain’s own voice?). He has a bit of sarcasm, lots of loyalty, and an abundance of humor. He also sees himself in a certain light until he’s forced to see himself from every angle that past experiences have created and that was a momentous occasion for him and myself as I lived it through his thoughts. I also loved that he found everything about Eden adorable, heartwarming, and desire inspiring. Sigh. He was pretty much perfect.
This has a very fast pace that never bogged down too much with internal monologues. The secondary characters were…interesting. Some I definitely want to know their future stories, but I’m not sure how I’d feel about Pierce’s. However, this author has always made me love characters I thought were unredeemable so I won’t prejudge if this duo does give us his story. The chemistry between Eden and Andrew was steaming and organic. The humor was mature with just a touch leaning toward immature a time or two but never enough to make me wince. There’s a very nice epilogue to wrap it all up and I was definitely content and smiling by the close of the story.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.5 rom com starsssss I must be honest I got this because it was free and who can resist free booksss having said that I totally bought book two and I’m definitely going to buy all the future books in the series because I love these TDH people big time. I was in dire needs of a laugh and when this landed in my kindle I was more than thrilled to give it a go and I wasn’t disappointed! This was all the fun I was looking for and I was laughing from line one till the end. What I also appreciate about this book is the fact that behind all the rom com facade there is some insight on how we see ourselves and how people see us, how insecure some of us are and how others perceive us when when we try to mask those insecurities. I would recommend this book to all those looking for a fun light read but who also want something beyond than just a laugh.
Nice sweet read. Very funny if you like your heroine's to be a little clumsy in an endearing way. I let it slide on this one because I really liked Eden.
Hero was nice enough, but when the chips were down, he was a judgy jerk. I felt like she apologized more than necessary in the end.
Both were sexually experienced. He was a serial dater, but monogamous. He wasn't in to ONS.
She wasn't casual about sex, but she had drawer full of condoms. Loved that for a change.
I won't be reading the next book in the series. Pierce was a high maintenance ass and I think it'll require me to suspend too much disbelief to believe he changed.
The Sexpert is a sweet and savory romantic romp that had me at Hey-sus. (Huh? Read the book!)
Eden is our nerdy heroine who works as a social media expert for Le Man Magazine. To earn extra cash, she and her best friend Zoey come up with The Sexpert which are online videos of their “sexpertise” using a fake voice, a pair of “cupcakes” and various other desserts as prompts. Holy cannoli! When the videos go viral all hell breaks loose when Pierce, her boss/editor at Le Man is convinced that The Sexpert was originally his idea and that it was stolen by a mole hidden within the ranks at the magazine. He asks his best friend who has developed an application called Voice Lift, to sniff out the mole. Enter stage right, our hero, Andrew. Game on! Hide and Seek at its best. The hysterical laughter that erupted out of me had me peeing my pants.
The banter between Eden and Andrew brought to mind visions of sugar plums dancing and doing the nasties across the pages. Oh the sexual innuendos that slipped out of Eden’s mouth that left Andrew scratching his head were priceless.
And then last but not least, EOBS(End of Book “Stuff”). Johnathan, thank you for sharing yourself, your path, your direction, your journey. Julie, thank you for being a player and I mean that as the highest compliment. I could go on and on. Every time I read an EOBS I come away filled with inspiration and who better to be inspired by than J&J.
When it comes to rom-com the writing duo of Huss & McClain, well not only did they hit it out of the ballpark, they hit it out of this world hitting 5 stars along its path.
It's a rom-com. Like, a legit rom-com. It's so far out of the JA Huss norm that I have no idea what to say.
Except I thought it was hilarious. This is light and fun and sweet. This isn't the dark and twisty ride that Huss-McClain took us on with the Orginal Sin series. Sexpert is on the complete opposite side of the spectrum.
And I think you'll like it. It's sweet, shy girl meets sexy billionaire. It's cautious flirting and stolen kisses. It's fun. And laughter. And being scared of opening yourself up to something and someone new.
You're gonna meet new characters who will captivate you. Myrtle. Pierce. Zoey. Not to mention Andrew and Eden.
Eden works as a social media at Le Man Magazine. To make ends meet, Zoey and Eden come up with the idea of The Sexpert. Where they do videos on sex. One day it goes viral on the local radio and their luck changes and they get so many hits.
Andrew just moved into town to work with his best friend Pierce. He notices Eden and they start going together. They both like each so much but they both are scared. She is keeping a secret and he is wanting her to tell him the truth. In the end they both hurt one another and they both come to realize that.
Eden and Zoey get what they want and needed. Andrew and Eden forgive one another and their love for one another is amazing. I love how they worked it out and got back together.
I love this book and can’t wait for the others to come out. Huss/McClain you guys did it again, absolutely amazing. ARC provided by the authors. I definitely recommend this book.
I do love this duo, and i'm really excited to read more from them. This was a funny, quirky and a little weird read. I liked both of them a lot. Though towards the end, when the big conflict happened, i was left disappointed. Imo, the hero really needed to do something for the heroine, he effed things up and she was the one to go after him. There really needed to be a grand gesture from him.
Blurb: EDEN I'm just a simple girl who likes dessert.
Her. Me. Whatever.
ANDREW I don't want it to be her. I do not want this... sweet, delicious, shy social media nerd working at my best friend's magazine to be the face behind those perky cupcakes on the Sexpert channel. I don't want it to be her... because I like her. A lot. She's funny, and quirky, and smart, and creative... and... I really, really like her. It just can't be her.
But it is. And now I have to choose. My best friend? Or... The Sexpert?
This book is downright hysterical! A much needed read after being extremely depressed. It definitely lifts your mood and has you laughing out loud almost throughout the whole book!
Eden is the boobs behind Sexpert. Her boobs are fabulous and she uses them to promote her YouTube channel with her bestie Zoey. She gives advice on how to eat a KitKat and give an eclair an orgasm. <——-See! Hilarious! I love her positive attitude and how bright and cheerful she is. Even when her boss gets wind of Sexpert and goes on a crazy rampage to destroy whoever is behind it.
Andrew is a billionaire made overnight. He’s not cutout to be a boss. He’s free spirited. Adventurous. Laid back. But you have to do what you have to do. When he meets Eden we are taken on a roller coaster of emotions as they try to navigate through all the icing on a cupcake.
I really enjoyed this book. It’s sunlight after a dark night. The smell of fresh cut grass. The brightest of moons. It’s perfection.
I’ve been looking for a romcom for a LONG time. I think the last thing I read that made me crack up was by Penny Reid.
And in all these types of romcom books the formulae is always the same: an ambitious clumsy intelligent heroine who’s awkward, rambles and makes one too many jokes juxtaposed by an amused, highly masculine hero heading a company, or some equally prestigious role. But there’s a reason the formula doesn’t change, and it’s because it works and it’s actually hard to perfect the balance between laughter and romance. So it’s my favourite kind of genre, because it puts me in a good mood, they are always safe (enough) & I don’t have to worry about dark pasts, weird desires or cheating.
This one didn’t have me in stitches. But I’d huff, and smile constantly reading entertaining dialogue. And that’s worth it. Yes, the heroine had my eyes rolling with her constantly finding herself in embarrassing situations with the hero. But arguably, he’s chasing her and she’s running, and that’s one of my favourite tropes. If you don’t like ur h’s being a bit all over the place and find it annoying as opposed to endearing, I will say pass this one. 😂
Quite simply, the hero is new to town and has been hired by his best friend to find out who has been creating YouTube videos providing sex tips under the pseudonym Sexpert. Because this best friend claims the idea has been stolen when he invented it a year ago.
I did have some reservations. I think the hero needed to work himself into her good graces and grovel. It was just plain wrong the way he exposed her. But it’s something that would come with time. Other than that a fun read!
Safety: They’ve both been with people in the past. There’s no OW/OM. It’s mentioned the hero had an ex fiancée who proposed and he was stuck in a boring loveless relationship. All of which I can live with. He’s also been celibate since because said ex was a cheater so kind of swore of woman, until he meets her.
This is my first gander into the works of the new McClain and Huss writing duo. I've always loved Julie Huss’s dark, edgy, and sexy writing, so I was very curious at what The Sexpert would have to offer. Simply put, it was a lot of fun!
I really enjoyed how genuine and honest the characters were in the story. Although Eden wasn’t totally up front with Andrew, she said what was on her mind and was just herself… cute and clumsy all wrapped up in one big bow. Andrew was very atypical from what I would expect from a man of his success… very simple and sweet.
He was also completely enchanted by Eden, and although I did question his depth of feeling for her at times, they really were a cute pair. They also shared one of the steamiest ‘raining on the patio’ love scenes I’ve read - definitely would be a ‘wowza’ on the rating scale!
The storyline was very unique and fun with Eden's anonymous video channel. I always love Huss’s EOBS (End of Book Shit), because she’s so candid with her reasoning in creating her stories, and I enjoyed McClain’s take and getting to know more about him as well.
I look forward to future works by this pair, and I would recommend it if you are looking for a light, fun, and fast paced read, and maybe some tips from the 'Sexpert'!
Definitely a change in style compared to the last series of Julie and Jonathan!! The Sexpert is sweet, hilarious, naughty, cute and "adorable", Andrew's favourite word for Eden. I am a firm believer in fate, everything happens for a reason, and the way Eden meets Andrew is just that. They couldn't let each other go even if they tried. There are issues along the way but the surprise of the day was hands down Pierce, that sucker!!
I can see why this book can easily turn into a series as the citizens of Tall, Dark and Handsome (that's a cool name right there) neighbourhood has a lot of potential. Can't wait to see what the next one will bring!!
For me to put two stars on a Julie book is a first for me. I just haven't been able to get into these joint venture books with Jonathan, which I may be the only one who feels this way. But I haven't been into from the start. I miss Julie's books. This one took me two weeks to read and honestly I wouldn't have been heartbroken if Eden and Andrew hadn't of ended up together. And for me, i didn't find it funny and their ramblings just annoyed me. I will likely continue to read the joint books because it's Julie, but i'm not a fan of the joint books. Sorry just how I feel. Everyone's entitled to an opinion, right?
Was not feeling this book... I wanted to DNF so many times but again my ever need to have closure got the best of me.. So here I made it to the bitter end and I still did not enjoy this book.. Eden was super ANNOYING... All the lying was exhausting... Did she owe it to Andrew to tell him everything after only knowing for a few days/weeks?? HELL no! But I just feel like things could have been handled better... It felt immature and long winded... Even the banter drove me nuts...
This was a quick, fun read that cannot be taken too seriously. Andrew became an overnight billionaire who did’nt know what to do with himself and meets crazy sexpert Eden. She had a set of “great assets “ and was not afraid to use them. This couple met in traffic and the fun times begin. Great chemistry and some hillarious moments too. Pierce (best friend and boss) was an original piece of work! Crazy comes to mind. Well worth a read.
All hail the writing power duo that is JA Huss and Johnathan McClain. They can make me laugh, cringe and flush all in the span of 300ish entertaining pages. They made adorkable, endearing characters come to life and left me wanting more from the people we met in the TDH.
Eden loves her job in the social media department of LeMan magazine (she would love it more if it weren't for her witch of a boss Gretchen). Eden also loves her secret alter ego, The Sexpert, whose YouTube videos she creates with her BFF Zoey have gone largely unnoticed for a year. Except now that a local radio show has called attention to them, they're getting A LOT of attention, and not all of it is good.
LeMan's owner claims he thought of The Sexpert first, and is threatening damage to life, limb and livelihood if the person behind The Sexpert doesn't reveal herself and give up the program. And he's enlisted the help of his BFF, billionaire Andrew, to snuff her out.
This is where hilarity and hijinks ensue since Andrew and Eden already met and experienced a crazy sort of attraction to her. And not his suspicions nor her paranoia can prevent them from seeing where that attraction leads - even though they both fight it with everything in them (especially Eden).
Eden is a hot, awkward mess. She's nothing like her Sexpert persona, especially when it come to seducing a man. She lied to Andrew over and over to protect herself and Zoey, and I totally understand why. With all the horrible punishments that her boss was threatening, and the fact that Zoey is a single mother who desperately needs the cashflow The Sexpert is bringing in, I get why she felt like she needed to deceive Andrew. But, honestly, I wanted to strangle her on more than one occasion. Andrew showed her over and over that she could trust him and that he could make things right. And I wanted her to come clean to him on her own.
For his part, Andrew is pretty fantastic. He manages his overly-excitable best friend like a pro. He handles the spazzy girl he's crushing on like he knows what he's doing. And even though he hates being CEO of his company, he takes the reins anyway when he needs to.
JA Huss has hinted that this might not be the last we see of the characters we met in the TDH. I sincerely hope that's the case, because from where I sit, there's a lot more stories that need to be told, and no one can tell them better than she and Johnathan McClain.
Cute and very funny in parts. Strangely enough, this is the first J.A. Huss book I've read/listened to. Mostly because I've been in a Rom-Com kind of mood for a while. Especially since the last series I read had me in tears. I liked it. I liked how Pierce went off the deep end and paranoid.
But I also thought that Eden could have just said something to Andrew and proved that she didn't steal and she probably could have stayed incognito. I also get, not giving away all your secrets. I dated a guy for two years who found out something about me (financially) that was none of his business and I broke up with him when he questioned me about it. So I get that not everyone can or should know everything about you. I did think since it was the big crux of the issues, her coming clean and maybe getting some help and perspective to handle Pierce would have been a good idea.
Anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to the next book. Although I was hoping it would be about Zoe. Maybe that one will happen later.
This is a 180 from regular/typical JA Huss, and having just come off that high is probably why this didn't work for me. Adding to that, I could also tell which parts were genuine Julie and which were not and that honestly annoyed me more than anything else.
Cool story, will read the rest of the series but I'm very meh about it.
The Sexpert is the latest release from JA Huss and Johnathan McClain. After reading this book, my first thought was WOW Johnathan you bring out a completely different side of Julie that I like a lot. The Sexpert is fun and fabulous to experience from the beginning to the end.
The Sexpert is about Eden and Andrew. Eden Presley is stuck in a dead-end job that has no hope for advancement with her current chain of command. To give her career a kickstart in another direction, she teams up with her best friend, Zoey and develops a video channel using desserts to teach viewers how to improve their sex techniques while offering advice. Andrew Hawthorne comes into Eden’s life just as her video channel takes off. Unfortunately, Andrew is the best friend of Eden’s boss’ boss, Pierce. Pierce, the top dog at Le Man's magazine who believes the Sexpert channel is his and the person who is using his plan is a corporate spy.
I am crazy about this story. Eden and Andrew are great characters. There is no way anyone can read this book and not root for them to jump the hurdles in their path to romance. Eden is a nerdy woman who is funny with the right mix of seriousness sprinkled in to make her vulnerable and loveable. She is strong and working hard for a woman who takes credit for every good idea Eden presents to her. Eden also struggles to do the right thing for her friend Zoey while wanting to be completely honest with Andrew knowing that it isn’t possible to do both at this time. She will make a decision at some point but is it the right one?
The initial meet of Eden and Andrew in a traffic jam is a hoot. Andrew is another great character who is honorable and funny. Andrew is one of those men who turns the heads of women who meet him while he only has eyes for Eden. It is entertaining to watch Andrew try to work out a way to be loyal to his best friend, Pierce while advancing his relationship with Eden. He is drawn to her even though she isn’t his usual type. It is an interesting take on the characters watching Andrew fight the same predicament that Eden is facing, how can he be with the woman he wants while staying loyal to a friend who helped him through a difficult time in his life.
The writing in The Sexpert is terrific. The story is told in alternating points of view that gives the reader an understanding of the dilemma that both characters face and the occasional anguish their decisions cause. The story unfolds at the appropriate pace to keep the reader's engaged from start to finish. There are lots of laughs and hilarious situations. We also see a vulnerability in these characters that they hide with a joke like many people in real life.
I highly recommend The Sexpert. It is a story that will make you happy. It will also make you want more from the characters who live in Colorado's Tall, Dark, and Handsome a neighborhood that I will be glad to visit as often as this writing duo decides to take me there.
