I can never have her, but I’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe.
I never had a real family. Not one you could count on to have your back, no matter what. David, my best friend and fellow solider, was the only person I trusted. Until the day I got him killed.
Now the Steel Kings MC are my family, and my life. As their Sergeant of Arms, I keep the peace and pay my penance. That’s all I deserve.
There’s just one complication. Cassie. My best friend’s widow, and the woman I’ve loved since the moment I laid eyes on her. I watch over her from a distance. She’s off-limits, always has been. One hot night with her writhing underneath me doesn’t change that.
But then I found out her secret. Someone’s been leaving her notes, following her. I can’t let myself fall for her, but I’ll protect her with my life.
Betrayal is a steamy and suspenseful alpha male MC romance and contains no cheating, no cliffhangers, and a happily ever after, guaranteed.
This was the third book I read in 2019 and I can't remember that much about it. I have a vague memory of it but the only notes I made at the time were "ended to abruptly" and I rated it 3 stars. Mainly I just want to include all the books I read, even if I don't remember them all. It's all about the numbers today :-)
Grady is struggling to deal with his PTSD, anger issues and guilt over his best friend’s death. He’s found a refuge in the Steel Kings MC and keeping a watchful but distant eye on Callie, his best friend’s widow. Callie is just trying to get through each day while still grieving for the husband she lost a year ago. She is making it one day at a time immersing herself in as much work as she can, finding some comfort in knowing Grady is watching over her.
After a night of unbridled passion, can these two find in each other the solace they need to heal their wounds or are they betraying the memory of the loved one they both lost? In the midst of their personal conflict, has a stalker targeted Callie? Will Grady’s protecting her mean choosing between his MC family and the woman he loves or will it give him the answers he didn’t know he was looking for? To find out you need to take this emotional roller coaster ride with its ups and downs, twists and turns.
This is an absorbing tale full of emotions and angst, with some steamy romance and a bit of suspenseful action. The characters are strong and interesting, and the narrative is engaging and will definitely keep your attention. The only issue I had was the amount of Callie’s and Grady’s inner dialogue dealing with their feelings about each other and their sense of betrayal of David. Although it was necessary to illustrate the conflict the characters were feeling, IMO, it was just beginning to feel like too much. This did not lessen my enjoyment, and I definitely recommend this as an appealing read. This is an intriguing start to a new series, and I look forward to the next story.
I don't want to give you the author is a bad writer. She's a very good one but this book just didn't do it for me. Nothing happens! At the beginning a rival MC hang shoots at their president. The H being the enforcer takes out after them. Unable to catch them, he ends up at a bar and with his hot temper gets into a fight, leaving him pretty banged up and a little drunk. He ends up at his best friends widows house. He blames himself, for his best friend being killed, in Afghanistan. He's always loved Callie but never crossed that line, in any way, while his friend was alive. He's been keeping watch, over her for the last year. After Call is invited him inside, to clean him up, they end up in bed. The only time, in the whole book! No other sex. No kidding and until almost the end they don't see each other. Very little dialog. All inner thoughts. Pages of inner thought. Then Callie decided she has a stalker. Out of the blue. A few things have happened, that we just find out about. She calls the H and he's going to come to her rescue. Won't say more. Not that there's more to say. We are now about 83% and then there's the end! Period!! I kept thinking at 83%, how can everything he resolved so close to the ending. How do the H and h get together?? Bam! It's over!! DISAPPOINTED!!
I love how detailed the author was even when they were describing Grady's bike. The description allows you to picture everything perfectly. I got sucked into the story in the beginning. The problem I had with it is that the ending was very rushed and it seems like the author just got tired of it and decided to stop writing.
I was waiting to see what exactly Andrews did. The author started to explain but it seems like that thought was not fully developed. Also, in the end, it doesn't say what happened to Andrews. Did they kill him or did the army kick him out or did he get sent to prison?
As it relates to Grady and Callie did they work out their issues? It just seems like they just automatically forgot about the guilt that they were feeling. Is it that they read something in Daniel's diary that gave them permission? What about the police that was called to Callie's house?
I think the book could use a lot more work because there are a lot of unanswered questions.
I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a sweet, slow-burn deeply emotional romance. Grady is struggling after the death of his best friend, even a year later, and his PTSD and survivor's guilt aren't the only hard parts. He's also feeling guilty for his undeniable attraction to David's widow, a woman he has loved for as long as he's known her. When she attracts a dangerous stalker at the same time his MC club is being targeted by a rival, he has to burn the candle at both ends or risk failing one - or both - of them.
The story was a little heavy on intrapersonal ruminations, and I would have preferred much more, and more detailed, action and interaction between the characters. I loved the descriptive detailing of the setting and am thoroughly intrigued by the other members of the Steel Kings. The HEA nicely brought together both sides of Grady's loyalties and gave Cassie the closure she needed. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
So many amazing things to say about Betrayal, by Jamie Garrett!
Ok, have you seen the commercial for the shower curtain that has clear pockets for electronics like your cell phone, IPad and Kindle so you can read and communicate while washing? I said to my husband, “That is the dumbest thing ever! How ridiculous! I would never, ever use that!”
I now have to eat my words! lol
I could NOT put Grady’s story down. I read it while eating breakfast, brushing my teeth, brushing my hair, and all through my physical therapy exercises, bike riding, massage, and TEMS treatment.
The heart wrenching emotions as Grady deals with his PTSD and his care about his MC club balance his concern over Callie and his friendship with David.
Wow! This intro to the Steel Kings MC club kept me on edge. There was so much tension surrounding Grady and his role with the club. His anger always simmering underneath as a result of his military days and experience. Callie is the widow of his best friend who he served with and had died in action. There is an attraction between them but they have never acted on it until now. Callie feels a guilty but is ready to move on with her life. Grady feels like he isn’t good for Callie but she calms his soul and he wants to figure out a way to be together. The suspense and action begins when Callie starts receiving flowers and notes from a secret admirer. I couldn’t stop reading, it was so good!
Ok... I’m confused how to rate this read...I enjoyed it enough to read through to the end... That being said in most my reviews I have always said there’s not enough storyline there’s not enough information or story building in a book I can honestly say there is a huge amount of story building storylines information way too much where you start to lose interest in the story because there’s so much explaining I think this author has a great chance of creating a great series and maybe this is an editing thing but her storyline was great I have mixed feelings about reading the next in the series but I think everybody should give this series a chance.
David and Grady were best friends and served together in Afghanistan. Cassie and David were married and the three of them were friends. Grady saw David killed and he suffered from PTSD and had a hard time getting over that. He joined the MC to have some friends and family. Story felt like parts were missing, did the guy who framed Grady and his troops get caught, did the police eventually help in stead of question and criticize? Story ended too abruptly with unanswered questions.
I chose this rating because this was a pretty okay boot. I enjoyed pretty much all of the characters. Brady he was a pretty strange young man that had been through a lot, he was a veteran. That was in love with his buddies wife, her name was Callie but his buddy but he got killed in Afghanistan. Grady had to endure a lot with PTSD and dealing with the loss of his friend. Callie also had to deal with a lot herself. I believe this is where it all began. Well anyway this was a pretty good read. I recommend this book to all romance readers.
What a great read. This book was so good. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. Well written & this author rocks. I love MC books & this one was up there. Thanks.
It went on and on and on. Same thing over and over and over I kept skipping through the pages. I never give a negative review but this story didn't do it for me. So much disconnect with characters.
Grady made it back alive, but broken after loosing his best friend in Afghanistan. He wants to make it up to his widow, Callie, but first he has to deal with her stalker. Great read! Enjoy!!!
Love Jamie Garrett Grady and Callie. Survivors guilt. PTSD. Motorcycles. A stalker. One hot night. What more do you need? Oh, yeah! A happily ever after! Definitely recommended!!
