Some people come from a long family line of lawyers, doctors, teachers and even cops. Febe just found out she comes from a long line of…witches!

Febe Summer is not having a good day. Or a good year, for that matter. She lost her fiancé, her job, and her apartment all in one day—on her 25th birthday! Talk about the worst. Birthday. Ever!
She’s jobless, penniless and soon to be…homeless.
Will she be able to rebound and pick herself up again?
Oh, and she just found out, thanks to a dark family secret, that she’s not who she thought she was. She’s a witch! And she’s not allowed to practice magic—yet.

When she moves back to her small hometown of Blackshore Bay, there’s more family drama than she can handle. Her aunties are out of control, her sister is being secretive and someone has murdered the malicious town gossip. Will she be able to find out whom, before it’s too late?

Too many pieces left out like the author had to tell the entire story quickly. It was annoying that Febe constantly repeated what someone said as a question.

Mehhhhhh

Badly in need of an editor and a proof reader. Convoluted plot and poor character development. Needs a lot more work.

I'm assuming this is this author's first book. She desperately needs an editor. Lake Erie is south of Toronto, not north. This story meanders and is sloppy and confusing. Her boyfriend is suddenly her fiance. Names change within the same chapter. Dialog sucks! Storyline full of holes. I tried but only made it to chapter 16 as I was noting typos and errors on every page.

I probably would've loved this if I was still in elementry school, or even junior high. But this is was just not written for adults. It was like a kid trying to write a grown up story. Not for me. Won't go past book one.

The writing was light and descriptive. I really felt that I got to know the main character in a short space of time. For a short story a lot was packed in. It suddenly got quicker towards the end and all of a sudden the murderer was announced. It was a surprising twist that whilst it felt quite sudden, looking back there was a bit of a build up that I didn't realise had taken place at the time that I was reading it.

The chapters varied in length with the longer chapters at the beginning and the middle. It gave an interesting pace to the story.

I loved the characters and the relationships that they all had with each other. I enjoyed reading about the ups and downs in the family unit. It made it more relatable (as far as a magical story can be!).

Lastly the settings. I loved the small town and how everybody seemed to know everyone, yet still no one knew who the murderer could be.

Overall an enjoyable, short, cosy mystery. I recommend if you just want a magical, one sitting book.

Good starr

Even though Febe had a rough start on her birthday with finding her boyfriend or what she thinks is her fiance cheating with their boss which starts a chain reaction. Not only does she lose him but she also losses her job as well which means no money and eventually no place to live. Wow that's a lot for turning twenty-five but to top it off, she finds out that she's a witch and needs to go home asap! One thing leads to another and there's a murder.
This was a fun start to the Summer Sisters story and will continue the rest to see how it progresses with these witches. 😀

Well, I would be pissed if I paid money for this. The way this made my brain physically hurt from skipping around so much, I couldn’t even keep up with what was happening, so many holes and not a lick of editing.

Bummed

The premise was interesting, and the ideas are there. But the story as just too simplistic, and the grammar mistakes were driving me crazy. I really wanted to like it, but sadly it was just ok.

Horrible typos

This would have been a great little read, but there were so many typos it was blinding. No editor read these pages, that’s a fact. It’s sad, because the characters deserve a lot more stars. When a writer won’t invest in herself, everyone suffers.

This book needs a good editing and proofreading. Writing errors, especially where pronouns didn’t agree with antecedents, made it very difficult to follow what might have been an interesting story.

Horrible

Get an editor! Or at least proofread by someone who speaks English. So poorly written it is hard to read. I gave up after the first chapter.

Definitely needs an editor and proofreader. The book doesn't flow very well. Vanity and Tricia fight way too much. It is not a very good first book, so I hope the author didn't leave their day job.

I cannot tell you how many times I said that during this book..

In this story we follow Febe Summer, a once normal girl who on her 25th birthday finds out she is actually a witch. After the birthday she had she is stunned, her once Fiancée left her, she spent an outrageous amount of money on a gift for him that he no longer deserved, and not to mention...

SHE'S A WITCH

Moving back to her hometown of Blackshore Bay should be fun right...?

Haha... Totally.

But when her aunties become out of control, and her sister starts to hide her true intentions and for some unknown reason she was the one to find the town gossip murdered will Febe be able to complete what she came to Blackshore Bay for or will it be too late?

Witch Happens is the debut novel of The Summer Sisters Witch series by A.M. King. I want to say for this book being under 150 pages it is quite interesting how far everything progressed to get to where it ended. If you are looking for a quick read that will kind of make you want to read more this is the start of a series for you! Again with under 150 pages you will have this series done in no time!

Read this series if you like the follow:
-Quick Read
-Light descriptive
-Paranormal Romance
-Relatable situations
-Funny Characters
-Drama
-Scandal
-Mystery
-And a little bit of Romance.

DNF! ZERO STARS

Poorly written! This needs an editor in the worst way. Febe (short for February, SMH) is a very childish 25 year old. She doesn’t see that her fiancé is using her for her ideas. She likes him because he’s hot. “He was everything she’d wanted in a guy. Caring and popular.” Okay, if that’s what you think is important then good luck Febe, you got what you deserved.

Febe is what I call an askhole. She repeats almost everything as a question, it is really irritating. She seems constantly puzzled by the simplest things.

And then there is the use of “anyway” continually throughout the book. On page 57 (Nook version) she uses it THREE TIMES. I used the search option on my Nook and she uses any 30 times in 124 pages of actual story content. THIRTY.

I only got to page 57 with the 3 anyways and gave up. I don’t like Febe, she’s dumb and childish. Her family is irritating. I am actually rooting for the witch hunters in this series.

And to the author A.M. King, please for the love of books get an editor! Give out some ARC copies to get others to proofread for you since you can’t. Hell, go to https://www.thesaurus.com/writingtool and use their FREE copy/paste section to improve your writing. Please!

An excellent first book of the Summer Sisters. Your Birthday is supposed to be a very happy occasion but for Febe Summers it was anything then happy. First she thought she was going to celebrate her birthday with her husband to be but when she went to leave a birthday present at his place she got the surprise all right as in he sleeping with their boss lady, then boss lady got to work and fired Febe and finally she will lose her place she lives in with her cat Ebony. But the biggest and most frighting was when her Aunts told her she was a Witch and to come home. And that is when almost all hell was going to brake lose on Blackshore Bay, Canada ; this is were she and her sisters grow up but coming home this time is different because she has to be tought to control her powers and help the other Witches and Other Supernatural Beings before a WITCH HUNTER GETS TO THEM ALL.
What turnout to be a pleasant home coming turns into a murder investigation and that turns into watching each others back.

I like cozy mysteries with witches, magic, and other supernaturals so when I saw this book, I just had to buy it!

The story begins with introducing Febe Summer. Febe is a witch (as yet unknown to her) who gets hooked up with and engaged to a Cad named Jonathan. He breaks up with her on her 25th birthday, she loses her apartment on the same day, and she loses her job. So, she goes "home" to the house of her 3 living quirky witch aunts, her sister, and her ghostly witch Aunt Hex. Once home in Blackstone Bay, she helps run the family restaurant and coffee shop.

All supernatural cozy mysteries have to have a death that the main character discovers, and this story runs true to form. The dead body is a witch detective and thus, begins the fun! Along the way is Febe's "love" interest, a local police officer. :)

I found this book to be quite entertaining and the characters written very well. While the plot was a bit weak, the writing allows the reader to overlook that fact.

Surprising birthday presents

A solid read. Not great as the plot is really a bit unbelievable and the sleuthing needs tightening but this might improve with further books. Her 25th birthday and all she can think about is tryptophan get the right gift for her boyfriend. However her surprise falls flat when she finds him in bed with her boss, looses her job, can't afford her apartment and oh, yeah, finds out she is a witch. When her sister comes to collect her to go to the family home, she readily agrees. Finding a dead body on the way is not what she expected. Even if it is of a malicious gossip reporter. Who killed the woman and why? The plot is really similar to dozens I've read and unfortunately the characters need more work. They come off as slightly unreal.

Witch Happens is a cute paranormal “cozy mystery” with a totally unexpected ending. The story held my interest but I felt it needed more development. Too much “tell” and not enough “show” and several facts were constantly repeated: Febe lost her job, she caught her boyfriend cheating, and she found out she was a witch…all on the same day—her birthday! Although there was a lot going on in the story, somehow I missed that deep connection to the characters. I typically don’t read this genre but I needed to satisfy a prompt in a reading challenge, and Witch Happens was a free download in Amazon. I only gave it three stars but it was my first A.M. King book, so I will probably give the author another chance.

I read this book with high hopes of finding a new author that I would love. I didn’t find that. The plot of the story was really good! Execution of that plot was not. It felt like several chapters were missing. It went from a lot of build up of the characters to her knowing who the killer was. It gave me readers whiplash. There’s also a lot of redundancy and conversations that seem juvenile. I did end up reading the next book hoping the writing style would mature but it did not. I also tried to read the third, again hoping it would get better because her plot game is there, but I gave up a few chapters in because she was already contradicting herself from things we learned in this book. This series had so much potential!

This was a very interesting Paranormal Cozy Mystery about Febe Summer finding out she is a witch when she turns 25 when her aunts tell her. Febe did not have a good day on her birthday; she lost her fiancé who cheated with her boss, her job, and her apartment all in one day.

Febe moves back to her small hometown of Blackshore Bay, there’s more family drama than she can handle. Her aunties are out of control, her sister is being secretive, she finds out her cat talks and someone has murdered the malicious town gossip. It sounds almost normal for some people but I like the magic in the story because if I could do some magic, I wouldn't know what to do first.

Witch story are we reading?

I was disappointed in the beginning because here was another coming of age story where everything bad happens as soon as the surprised 'normal' discovers that she is a witch. Guess what? The disappointment continued because I was fed a diet of mixed tenses and infantile responses along with disjointed and unfinished bits of different story?
What happened with the training? When did the relationship with Officer Trey get to the point where he and Febe were exchanging confidences? How did she make the connections to begin to suspect Amanda?
Too many story lines that just seem to float off to nothingness!

Interesting storyline.

Finding out that your boyfriend is cheating with your boss no less is a slap in the face so now you've lost him and your job and your apartment all in one day which happens to be your birthday sucks big time. When the family calls to tell you that your 25th birthday is when you come into your witchy powers officially mind is blown. Moving back home is when it all kicks off, with magick mayhem and murder, and maybe a little romance. It's a good story somewhat spoiled by typos and a lack of editing, but if you can ignore that it has some good characters and a twist at the end you won't see coming, worth a look, Baz.

Interesting story line, I just wish it was a bit more developed. Everything feels rushed. The author is quick to tell you what's happening instead of letting you puzzle things out for a bit, which isn't what I expect from a mystery. Also King is not one for descriptions. It isn't very detailed. I'm all the way through book one and have started book two, but the only detail I can remember about Febe's appearance is that she's curvy. I like the story and I'm sure I'll finish the series, but I want more from it.

This was a fun cozy witch mystery! Just what I needed today.

Poor Febe was having the worst birthday ever! But also the best. She discovers she's a witch when talking to her aunts, her cat can talk, and she has magical powers!

Add in a murder mystery, a handsome police officer, a town full of magic, and more mysteries to solve, and you have this fun series. I can't wait to get to book #2.

This was an audiobook version, and the narrator did a great job. Easy to understand, different inflections for different voices, nice tempo.
