P.I Burnside has a beautiful wife, drives a Pathfinder and loves Starbucks dark roast coffee. I know this because the author, David Chill, brings this to our notice about every third page. His marriage is perfect and life is good. Add this to a pedestrian mystery plot and I was very underwhelmed.
I have read every book in this series, partially because I grew up in the same neighborhood where Burnside presently lives with his adorable son and brilliant wife. I need more than a nostalgic visit to the old haunts to make me continue. I have overlooked the rose colored glasses through which he views his marriage and the excruciating football details in every book in pursuit of an interesting mystery. Not only is the solution almost physically impossible, it strains credulity at every turn. This time Chill fumbled the ball.

I was disappointed in the book. Unlike some reviews that did not like football I am a fan. But the football references did not interest me. Mostly I was bored with the book. I did not care for the style of writing, and if I did it might have been better. My biggest disappointment was the ending. All of a sudden the killer is revealed out of What I see as nowhere. Then the final chapter to me was a waste of space. I would find it hard to recommend this book, but from other reviews it is clear to me that many other people do like this author and this book.

Fun romp through LA
I liked this author’s style - a little verbose but overall set a great picture. Editing seemed almost flawless (only found one set of quotation marks that were incorrect). My biggest qualm was the guilty party was almost insultingly obvious. Still, evidence and all that but come on!
Anyway, totally agree about Tito’s. Will check out more of this author’s work!

Good to have a working wife
My first book by this author, and ok as a stand alone novel. Smoothly written, and well-editted. The plot was borderline plausible, but the perp's confession too easy. I've downloaded others by this author,and will read them. Not a book to lose sleep over, but not sedating either.
$5K inadequate return for the time spent detecting, if one has to live in LA, hence the jeading

Another great novel in the series
Easy to read and kept me wondering — who committed the murder? And which restaurants and neighborhoods would be featured next? And even though I can’t follow the football, the author gives enough explanation of the plays, the politics, the neighborhoods and all that it remains interesting until the end. Great book!

Don't Have to Turn Pro
I actively hate sports, especially the pro version, but neither the heavy football theme nor the fact that I dove in at number 9 in the series, kept me from thoroughly enjoying the book.
Burnside is a likeable character, the plot is as believable as most PI stories, and the book is well edited and very PG for its genre.

This is the first book I have read by this Author. If you love football with crime, suspense and mystery then you should read this book. Well written and the story truly moves along. The story is centered around a private investigator and former police officer set in Los Angeles. I am looking forward to starting at the beginning of the Burnside Series and catching up.

I enjoy his books, even though they center around football, which I don’t watch. They are clean, and the plots flow, as though he is talking to you, about his family, and his daily habits. In between is murder, and another avenue of people and places to know about. How he figures them out, is interesting. Always look for more by the author.

Flea Flicker is a good trick play
As with all of David Chills books, I throughly enjoyed this one. The character is believable, relatable, and irreverent. My kind of guy. This particular story builds on past relationships and moves very well. Another touchdown for Chill

Always Enjoy Burnside
Burnside has really mellowed over the years. I liked the family story parts and tidbits about the city as much as the mystery. The killer wasn’t a surprise to me, and the way the football players’ problem was resolved wasn’t either. But I enjoyed the ride.

This is a good story. I appreciate the way he winds football into his plot. I believe this author is worth following. It has some rough language but for the most part, he doesn’t feel the need to use a lot of violence and harsh language to tell a good story.

Inspiiritual writing
An absolut page turner. Well crafted and executed story. I am not usully attracted by sports inspired books but this one took me by surprise and I enthusiastically recommend it to all suspense lovers

I truly enjoyed this book. I read it in two days. I loved the explanation of a flee flicker. It was clear and fun to read ax explanation. If you are a woman - give this a shot. I did and am glad I did.

Flea flicker
This was just a short piece of the book and to be blunt, it sucked. Terribly boring and i was never able to get into it. I thought I had downloaded the entire book and when it ended abruptly, I was actually quite pleased. Don't waste your time on this one.

Sex, Drugs, Money, P.I., and Football!
An excellent story, great characters, well written, a Super Duper P.I., prison for the guilty, and victory and happiness for almost everyone else. And it all happens in L.A.!!!
