The Riders…three legendary brothers who were born to aid the Baba Yagas, until tragedy changed everything. Separated by guilt and circumstance, they will finally have a chance to come back together. But what will happen when they do? Neither Mikhail, Alexei, nor Gregori are enthusiastic about the invitation to join the three Baba Yagas at Bella’s home in the Wyoming woods. But Bella and her apprentice Jazz have just spent a year in the Otherworld after Jazz’s disastrous attempt to cure the Riders’ loss of their immortality, so it isn’t really a summons any of them can refuse. As much as they might wish they could. Each brother has his own reason to feel guilty, and they all mourn what they have lost despite having built themselves rewarding new lives. None of them is quite ready for a reunion. But they no longer have all the time in the world. So they get on their enchanted steeds (now a black Harley, a red Ducati, and a white Yamaha) and head out across the country, never expecting the adventures that lie ahead. The brothers travel different roads to get to Wyoming, but they all end up on the same path. A surprise visit from an old friend might just show them that the journey is more important than the destination…especially when you travel it with those you love.
Deborah is the author of over a dozen non-fiction books on modern witchcraft and a tarot and oracle decks from Llewellyn. Her fiction includes the Baba Yaga series, The Broken Rider series, and the Veiled Magic series, and her cozy mysteries The Catskill Pet Rescue series (mostly from Berkley) as well as a few stand-alone novels.
Deborah lives in a 130 year old farmhouse in upstate NY with multiple cats. She believes in magic, laughter, chocolate, and wine. The order may change depending on the day.
After centuries of travelling together and serving and protecting the Baba Yagas, the Riders lost their powers and their immortality. But more damaging than anything, it broke their bonds as brothers, each feeling guilty about being tricked. For almost three years, they stayed away from each others, finding a new purpose in life and finding love when they didn't expect it. They finally healed from their losses, but they still haven't found their way back to each other. Stubborn men who worry it won't be the same. When one of the Babas (Bella) write them an invitation, the universe will make them deal with their apprehension, whether they're ready for it or not.
When I finished the trilogy, I was a little disappointed that things wasn't resolve between the brothers. Now I guess it was keep for this novella ;p It was fun to see the couples again. I'm glad the author finally gave us the chance to see Mikhail, Gregori and Alexei being reunited and of course, it wouldn't be complete without the presence of the Baba Yagas ;p And the ending that we can interpret in different ways, I love it !
This short story was a good way to wrap up things with the riders. I was happy to see that all of them decided to go to Bella’s, for the brothers to be happy to be with each other and the Baba’s. I really liked that even now Jazz wants to help the riders and the plan she came up with. It was perfect for everyone and I loved how the Riders stepped up to the task. Everyone is in such a happy place at the end of this one, which was a long time coming.
On a side note, I loved the nod to Harry Dresden. I don’t know that I would have caught it had I not followed both authors on twitter and see the back and forth teasing between them.
This was a cute way to tie in the three brother Riders after the Broken Riders series. It also lets us revisit the Baba Yagas and their apprentices. Something that I found incredibly enjoyable and refreshing. There’s also the lingering hint of a future tale in the last words and scene of this novella.
I loved the world of the Baba Yagas and every time Blake creates a new novella or story that fits into the world, I have a lot of fun revisiting something that I so thoroughly enjoyed previously. And Dangerously Driven was no different. It let us revisit all of our beloved characters and also find out how their lives ended up.
Dangerously Driven visits each of the three brothers and follows them as they journey to their reunion. In more ways than one. It left such a happy feeling in the pit of my stomach to find the three brothers united and with a goal in life yet again. Definitely a nice way to tie up the Broken Riders trilogy and one that I would certainly suggest to lovers of this series.
This charming novella features fan-favorite characters in a gentle plot that satisfies, yet also leaves the reader excited to return to Deborah Blake's world.
For readers who may be new to the series, pertinent background is included without slowing down the story or lessening the entertainment. However, readers may find themselves wanting to read any books they might have missed!
All in all, this delightful book did not disappoint!
This was a fun return to the world of the Baba Yagas and the Riders. Can an invitation finally bring the brothers back together or does their ordeal still weigh too heavily on them. I loved this novella as it gave us one more chance to visit the Riders after they have settled into their new human lives.
This novella was a quick read, but thoroughly enjoyable! We get an update on our Riders and the Baba Yagas and a fantastic hint at new adventures on their way! I'm so glad, as I really enjoy the world and the characters that Deborah Blake has brought to life in the Baba and Rider series. I can't wait for the next one!
I love these three men, and this novella goes a wonderful job of bringing the wounded warriors back together and melding their new stories and brides with the Babas. Short and sweet!
A nice novella that brings the other stories together and leaves the door open for further novels. Hopefully without too many new characters but developing their storyline’s.
