All I wanted was to raise something demonic from the Nolands to test my wizardly mettle, but I got a lot more than I bargained for. Not from the beastie, that was kind of a dud, but from my unwanted guest.
Vamps from the east are in town, and they have strange peccadilloes. They aren't here to sample the local delicacies though, they have an altogether more sinister purpose.
Before my visitor had chance to get nasty, we were kidnapped, and torture of the very painful kind was on the menu. Served him right, me not so much.
But us magical misfits stick together, and soon there's a war raging that will tear our world apart. Vampires are pitted against vampires, wizards and witches unite against a common enemy—mainly because there are goodies in it for them—and I try to stop getting all my important bits chopped off in nasty ways.
Just another day in the life of a poor wizard.
Hi, I'm Arthur "The Hat" Salzman. Gangster. Wizard. A bit hurty.
Full Disclosure – I was provided a copy of the book by the author as a member of his “A-Team”, however, have voluntarily chosen to write a review. All opinions are my own.
Ashes to Ashes
Ash Addict is the eighth installment in the Wildcat Wizard series of adventures by author Al K. Line. In this one, we catch up with Arthur, George, and Penelope six months after the close of Kinky Bones. The Hat seems to have settled into a more domesticated life with Penelope, but he is restless to get back into the thick of things as evidenced by his growing obsession with summoning demons in his barn. When he delves into an ancient, almost taboo art involving ash he is visited by a strange ancient vampire who claims to be the son of Mikalus. Tasius is not there by chance, however; he knows about Arthur’s past and he is determined to compel the wizard to recover the ashes of the patriarch First vampire. Unfortunately for Arthur, Tasius and his strange band of disciples aren’t the only ones who are after the ash, Cerberus is also seeking to obtain the remains of the most powerful vampire in history and Carmichael will stop at nothing to get what he wants. The question is, does Cerberus seek Mikalus’ remains in order to lock it away with the rest of their pilfered artifacts, or is there a deeper reason?
For as absent as Cerberus was in Kinky Bones, they have come back with a vengeance in Ash Addict. There are several factions vying to obtain the remains of Mikalus using all manner of violence, torture, and nefarious means to get their prize. If they succeed, it could mean a vampire reign that would affect not only the wizarding community but the entire population. Thanks to Ivan, Arthur finds himself thrust into a battle like none he has ever seen, when it’s Vampire against Wizard in a no holds barred fight to the finish. If that weren’t bad enough, The Hat gets a small taste of betrayal from his own camp, which sends him for a loop and makes him question his close alliances. There are also a few interesting hints at Arthur’s past which has made me all the more eager to read the future installments in this series. While Ash Addict does build on the overall storyline, it is written in a way that also works well enough as a standalone. If you’re not familiar with this series, this could easily be read without missing too much of the backstory. While the book ends on a semi-calm note, it’s clear that Arthur still has unfinished business and unanswered questions that hopefully will be explored in “Death Calls”, the upcoming ninth book in this series.
Arthur ‘The Hat’ Salzman can’t get a break. He’s practicing summoning demons—out of curiosity, mind you—when an unwanted guest arrives at his little hideaway. As if he doesn’t have enough problems, his guest wants his help finding the ashes of the First Vampire, and Arthur suspects his motives are nefarious. How right he is! Vampires addicted to ashes want to acquire the First’s ashes to usher in a new vampire era, a quest that pits vampire against vampire, and involves a whole host of other beings with powers; and greet. And, right in the middle of this battle that could destroy the world as they know is no one but Arthur himself. Ash Addict by Al K. Line is book eight in the Wildcat Wizard series, and it doesn’t disappoint. Lots of action, magical and otherwise, as Arthur tries to bring a chaotic situation under control with the minimum amount of damage. Of course, where Arthur’s involved, degree of damage is a malleable concept, especially when he feels his family threatened. I received a complimentary copy of this book, and, what can I say, I loved it as usual. Don’t let this one slip away. I give it five stars.
Ash Addict is the eighth book in the Wildcat Wizard series by Al K. Line. The complete series is available in a boxset, twelve books for the price of one #winning. What a great way to get your book-binge on. The Wildcat Wizard Complete Collection Box Set contains the entire Wildcat Wizard series by Al K. Line. It is an epic, original, and intriguing urban fantasy series - woven with wizards, vampires, magic, paranormal elements, action, adventure, mystery, suspense, danger, drama, humour, heists, quests, the supernatural, and interesting quirky characters. The Hat is a great character, he’s a bit of an anti-hero, as he gets caught up in quite an adventure (or two) with a few heists, mobsters, criminals, villains, and dangerous and dramatic developments to contend with. Along with his fairy godmother, they take us on quite a ride- one you won’t forget anytime soon. Happy Reading…
What a wild ride...my inner child was screaming at the unexpected twists and turns. Mr. Line you have made my day. This was amazing. Thank you and please continue to share this with your fans!
I’ve read them all, and all the dark enforcer series too, great characters, fast paced story with witty banter and genuine LOL moments in every book. Read anything by this author, I do and haven’t been let down yet
You did again!!!!!!!!!! I missed Vicky but I loved how she wasn't completely out the picture. I love that Author and Ivan were able to spend so much time together, even if it was for crazy reason. I also enjoyed that Author and George have someone to share their lives.
