Corey's life fell apart when her preacher husband turned his back on her and their family. Corey is raising the kids on her own, but she is struggling. She has no support from her family and she is estranged from the faith that was her foundation for most of her life. So, when she meets a handsome man that turns out to be her daughter's preacher, she is determined to keep her distance No way, no how will she make that mistake again But this preacher has his eyes on Corey and he will not give up easily. Will Corey learn to love again and possibly find her faith in the process?
All Sara Anne wants for Christmas is a new daddy. Her mommy, Corey, is good to her and takes care of her and her older sister but it’s not the same as having a daddy. Pastor Luke would be a perfect daddy but will her mother agree?
Corey’s ex-husband was a preacher and tore her heart out when he left. The grief still surrounds her heart and she’s determined to stay far away from preachers. When she meets Luke, her daughter’s preacher, her heart starts beating again. She’s attracted to him but must protect her own heart. Luke, though, is not easily rebuffed. Can she forgive her ex and open her heart to love or is she too jaded?
A poignant story about forgiveness, faith and falling in love. Corey’s been hurt bad by her ex-husband (who happens to be a preacher) and has turned her back on God. But true to His word, He doesn’t abandon us. He loves us and waits for us to return to Him. A strong faith-based holiday romance.
What I love most about Her Daughter’s Preacher is Sara Anne. She doesn’t understand what happened to her mommy or her daddy. All she knows is that she wants a daddy for Christmas. Her innocence shines throughout the story and more than once, I got emotional.
If you’re looking for a sweet Christian romance that’ll make your heart swell, pick this up today! Highly recommend, especially for fans of Karen Kingsbury and Debbie Macomber.
All Sara Anne wants for Christmas is a Daddy. Instead, she's blessed with a puppy. Together, her and sister team up to care for the pup and along the way introduce their mother to their Preacher. A very handsome, single preacher. Could Sara Ann get her Christmas wish after all?
A very pleasant read which appears to be book two in a trilogy but can also be read as a standalone!
PROs: The story of sweet Sara Ann and her sister had me pulled in from the start! The description of events and story in general had me wanting to read more about what would happen to her, her sister Haley, and the poor homeless pup, not to mention the grieving, hard working mother Corey. Delving into the story was easy, as you truly felt yourself caring for the two little girls and mother, given their situation. I truly adored Pastor Luke and his automatic affection for Corey as well as both her girls. This was a sweet Christian romance with lots of heart!
CONs: As an author: The story was pretty solid, but I did notice some places where it could have used improvement. The sentence structure from one line to the next was choppy throughout, but I still felt compelled to finish it. Although the story began well, there was a serious lack of description, in and out of chapters, as the story progressed. Again, I am speaking from the view point of an author who lives for action words. This book could have easily been twice as long with a little more description and scenes that seemed rushed.
Great Story! Given a little TLC, I would have gladly given it 5 STARS!!!
All in all, not a bad start for someone's 2nd book, and in saying that, I wish this author all the best luck in future endeavors, and look forward to reading her newest creations.
Although not my usual fare, this book was a sweet surprise. The little girls and the puppy stole my heart first, but a second chance at love is always a special treat. Although a little faster in timeline than I expected, this was a lovely Christmas miracle kind of book.
Life can be hard when you're a single mother, but anything can happen with a little Christmas magic! What a wonderful, upbeat story! I couldn't help but fall in love with all the characters and I promise, you can't get to the end and not have a smile on your face. 😊
Much like the first book in the Jeannie Sharpe's Second Chances series, Her Daughter's Preacher is a sweet, light read that is imbued with Christian overtones and the author's voice seems to reflect this strong faith--even as her MC is rediscovering her own. The most appealing character, however, is Sarah Anne- the youngest daughter of Corey Fisher- a woman wounded deeply by a prior marriage to a preacher. The plot moved smoothly with some twists along the way, and although this is not a genre I often read, that did not distract from my overall enjoyment of this fun uplifting and feel-good story of love, renewal and faith. I recommend to all lovers of Christian romance. Well done.
Even though I'm an atheist, I've had good experiences with Christian Romance, as I tend to be more interested in the emotional connection of a relationship than the lust factor.
"Her Daughter's Preacher" sounded pretty good from the description. I went in looking for an easy, wholesome romance. While I cannot say that it failed that expectation on any level, it was in fact so easy and so wholesome that it came off rather bland.
The book was too short to develop meaningful connection to the characters. There was very little conflict. All of the drama and misfortune took place in the past before the novel begins. The hero had zero flaws, read the heroine's mind and said all the perfect things at the best time.
There were too many coincidences. Things that were taken for granted that should not have been. For example, why can a preacher afford to be a very generous tipper? This guy wants to ask the heroine out without asking her religion first? Isn't that something a preacher might care about?
The romance was also unrealistically fast. Yes, the characters do at least mention that it's fast. But they start talking about serious commitment on their first date, and I think the entire courtship (from first sight to marriage) took less than a month. That's not usually the sort of relationship that proves stable.
It's possible that the references to God in this book will coalesce these points into a cogent explanation for religious readers.
Complaints aside, this is far from the worst romance I've ever read and if it were a little more polished and a little more fleshed out, I would be recommending it to friends.
P.S. There were characters in the book that seem to come from other novels. If you're a fan and have read those, it might be satisfying to follow those connections.
I am glad I read the first novel in this series prior to reading this one, because things fell much better into place for me. The writing is clear and descriptive, and the story is charming and uplifting. Set in the little town of Camden, Maine, as the first one was, this is the tale of Corey and her children who have been abandoned by someone I would describe as a narcissistic preacher whose mission to his church is/was more important than his family. His holier-than-thou attitude leave Corey and her two children without much in the way of financial support as well. Another factor in this equation is that Corey's father is also a preacher, and he had blessed the marriage BECAUSE he felt that it would be great for Corey to be married to someone who put on a great front as a man of God.
The book opens with Corey's younger daughter praying for a daddy to come their way. This is a theme throughout the novel, with the older daughter rolling her eyes back (or so it seems to me) at the thought that praying will solve their problems. I don't want to say anymore because I don't want to give anything more away.
I enjoy Jeannie's writing. My only problem is that I would have liked to have seen a little more background at the front, even perhaps after the scene where Sarah Anne (the younger girl) was praying to set up the book. It took me a few minutes to make the connection to the first book, but as things went along, I got it.
This is a novel for any age group, and the duo (both books) would be good candidates if taken together for a Christian book discussion group.
Her Daughter's Preacher is the second book in Jeannie Sharpe's Second Chances series. The books are about people who have had some problems in their lives, but are presented with opportunities to start over. This novel is a light, Christian romance about Corey Fisher, a woman who has lived through the pain of a failed marriage. Her husband, Bennett, was a preacher who “put his church before [Corey], Haley and sweet Sara Anne.” Now along comes Luke Anderson, another preacher, this time from the church (coincidentally named St. Luke's) where Corey's children attend Sunday school. Corey finds this new man attractive and generous (sometimes overly generous). When he confesses his own attraction, she is worried about his impulsive behavior and similarities with her ex.
It's a fun read for people who like sweet (there's even a puppy in the story), fast-paced romances, but what I found most interesting was the underlying theme of a competition between the love someone feels for God and the love that same person feels for his or her spouse. We don't get to know what Bennett was thinking when he left his family, we just know the thoughts Corey had after he was gone. Perhaps Bennett abandoned his marriage more for his own ambition than for a calling. There's also a line in Sharpe's novel that says “...put you first, right after God.” That is a difficult concept as well, worthy of a long discussion.
Steve Lindahl – author of Motherless Soul, White Horse Regressions, Hopatcong Vision Quest, and Under a Warped Cross.
Corey is a young single mother with two children who has lost her faith in herself, her relationships, and God. But when a new Preacher comes to town, will he be able to restore all the things she has forsaken?
A faith-based romance novella, it follows the everyday life of a single Mom working multiple jobs very accurately. You feel the weariness of Corey trying to keep her family afloat and that is what anchors the story. Her two daughters are a little too cute and perfect, but they are a fun addition. However, Preacher Luke Anderson, who is the obvious love interest, comes off as a stalker/control freak. Every time Corey turns around, he is there. Once she does ask if he is following her, but he comes up with a pat answer. His past should raise red flags along with his "falling in love at first sight," comment. (She addresses this briefly, but then dismisses it.) It gets worse when at the end he makes major life decisions without including her in the process. That's disrespect, plain and simple. In her desperation, Corey has allowed him to take over her life. One wonders what he would do if she objected to any of his "executive decisions."
Corey did struggle with his attention, which provided some good internal conflict, but I would have liked to have seen her become a healthier version of herself so she was on equal ground with this guy. Being swept off your feet is romantic in the short-term, but is not necessarily the foundation of a good relationship.
If you like quick, easy, light reads, with much emphases on praying and putting faith in God to make everyday to life altering things happen, this might interest you (I’m not sure though). I believe it is for those who will not think too deeply about the story.
There are some unnerving aspects to this book that have me wondering.
Spoiler alert: After a man (the preacher) gives a hefty tip to the main character at her work (a single mother with money troubles), he becomes obsessed with her, almost stalker like, taking over her life in a way, showering her with expensive gifts and meals, and in a way manipulates her to believe he knows God’s plan and that she is to marry him after about a week of meeting one another?
This is practically grooming.
I was quite put off with how the preacher turns the woman from independence to completely dependent, and his good looks, money, and declaration of complete love for her and her children after a few days makes him trustworthy...
I think this was suppose to be a romantic book, filled with the fantasy of a handsome man, who has an attractive position in a church, and has money, but it came off as weird and creepy.
If this was a satire, it is a good commentary on the warped mentality of this specific social group.
But I do not think it is meant to be one.

This is a heart-warming tale of learning and growing in two very different types of love.
Corey is a single mother of two girls, who is struggling to keep everything running. She feels deeply betrayed by her former husband, who was a preacher but (at least for Corey's view) loved the church more than his spouse and children. She has sworn never to get involved with a preacher again and is even having troubles with her own faith. When a handsome man steps into her life, she steers clear when she learns he too is a preacher. But he's very determined and might be exactly the man she's been looking for.
This is a sweet story, not only due to the lovely romance theme but also the characters. Corey is kind, easy to relate to, and is feeling lost. Her fears are understandable, and it's hard not to wish the best for her as she struggles to find better footing in many aspects of life. But she isn't the only wonderful character. Her two daughters tell the tale from their side quite often and are quite the pair. There's even a adorable puppy to guarantee smiles.
There is a lot of heart in these pages, and it's this which draws in. The story runs along smoothly with just enough gripping moments to keep those pages turning. The romance was a bit quicker than I prefer, but it didn't hurt the story. I enjoyed reading it, and had a smile on my face at the end.
This is a quick, easy read of a Christmas miracle that begins with a wish by the delightful little Sara Anne for a father. Her mother, Corey, then meets Sara’s magnetically handsome Sunday school preacher but, in spite of his interest in her, wants no part of him or his church after two previous bad experiences with pastors. If Sara’s preacher is to become Corey’s savior from her past, he’s going to have to prove he’s better than the rest and that pretty much means he has to walk on water (But he has a good start. His name is Luke.). It all has to take place by Christmas Eve for Sara’s wish to be granted so it is necessarily fast paced but that just keeps the pages turning. I liked this story even better than the author’s first. It contains all the successful ingredients to capture the imagination.
Her Daughter's Preacher: A Second Chances Novel is a sweet enjoyable romance. Corey struggles with supporting her family with multiple jobs after her preacher husband walks out on her and her daughters. Betrayed by love and her faith, Corey turns her back on God. When her daughter’s preacher sets his eyes on Corey, she wants nothing to do with him. Can he restore her faith and win her heart?
If you are looking for a sweet romance, this is the book for you. It is an easy and enjoyable read. A lot of the story is told in the sweet voice of the youngest daughter. Both daughters are endearing and have you pulling for God to answer their prayers for a daddy. This is an uplifting story ready to warm your heart.
I was introduced to Sharpe's work when I read her first story, "The Baker's Husband", which is also part of the Second Chances Novel. I am very impressed with Sharpe's penning of a story, and it's clean and wonderfully romantic. In this story, we get introduced to Sara Anne, who wants a "daddy" for Christmas, which is a wish that doesn't just want a husband for her mother, but someone who will also be her daddy. It's a great story, and I was attracted to it, immediately. Sharpe writes very well, and the story is not a typical romance. It's a wonderful, Christian romance, as it weaves the faith and prayers in God within the story. Very well done. Very well written.
This is a great story with a lot of heart and definitely brought me the spirit of Christmas this summer! I loved the characters, who were brought to life by their interesting dialogue, quirkiness, and issues they dealt with throughout the novel. You certainly don't have to wait for December to read this one! I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to any readers looking for a good, clean, enjoyable, quick read!
Im a sucker for a good love story and well here I am, falling in love with a new to me author and her stories. I love second chances and well, this is just absolutely adorable. Sharpe will have you falling in love. I read this book not realizing it was a second story in a series, but it is able to be read as a stand alone. This story is full of hope and inspiration. Take a chance to fall in love again. It is beautifully written and draws you in wanting to find that happily ever after.
Sometimes little girls’ prayers are answered. Corey’s girls want a new daddy who can make their momma happy. This is a heartwarming story about a little family who were damaged by a man of God who didn’t put them first. Thankfully another Godly man and a stray puppy make it all better. Excellent reading anytime, but a great quick read when you need a little Christmas spirit.
A beautiful story filled with love and sweetness. I normally don’t read these types of books, but this one took me by surprise. I found this one to be a great story. I got lost in Corey and Luke’s newfound relationship that I couldn’t help but keep reading. Wonderful cozy book! You won’t be disappointed.
I found this story to be a lovely romance read. The storyline was nice and I love Christian romance books. I do suggest that the author hire a professional editor and not friends or family, as a professional editor would greatly help this story. Five stars for Christian storyline and plot changes. Nice uplifting read.
Corey, a single mother of two, drew me into her story. Her husband walked out of their marriage leaving her to fend for herself and two daughters. One of her daughters, Sara-Anne, prayed to have a daddy in her life and eventually, Corey found true love and was married again! Maybe prayer works or dreams really do come true. Such an inspiring story!
Very sweet and simple story. Although we get a lot of telling rather than showing, and sometimes I felt like I was head hopping, the grammar, punctuation and spelling was all spot on. Therefore, even though not my cuppa, it still deserves 3.5 stars?
It is a different kind of love story, full of religious tone, but not excessive. A woman, struggling with her failed marriage, afraid to have a new partner, but her daughter wants a father. A good emotional story I have ever heard. I loved every word of the story and the tune off course.
Very enjoyable. A quick read filled with with charm and sweetness. If you like sweet Christmas stories with a happy ending, this will fill your afternoon.
