François Weyergans est un écrivain et réalisateur belge francophone. Il a reçu le Prix Goncourt en 2005 pour son roman Trois jours chez ma mère et le Prix Victor-Rossel en 1981 pour son roman Macaire le Copte. Il était membre de l'Académie française depuis 2009.

François Weyergans is a Belgian French-speaking writer and film director. In 2005, he received the Prix Goncourt for his novel Trois jours chez ma mère (Three days with my mother) and in 1981 he received the Prix Victor-Rossel pour le roman Macaire le Copte. He was a member of the Académie française since 2009.

On m'avait vendu ce livre pour la partie où l'écrivain procrastine, alors qu'il ambitionne d'écrire un livre sur son père, un écrivain catholique bon teint, spécialiste du mariage et de la vie de couple.

Je me suis moins retrouvée dans cette procrastination que dans les méandres psycho-cochonous du personnage qui suivent car c'est l'occasion pour lui d'évoquer non seulement son père mais son apprentissage de la vie d'adulte.

Drôle, cultivé et pas politiquement correct ce Weyergans:

Ce livre me donne envie d'écrire, ce qui est quand même assez énorme!

I finally managed to open this book 4 years after reading "Trois jours chez ma mère", which was more recent and kind of a sequel to this one.
I am quite glad to have done so, as it is so much better : there I discovered the hesitation of a young man, trying to write, competing with his father, wanting to differentiate from his family, though loving them. It was much more positive, far less inward-looking and egocentric. Of course it remains very well-written with many references to other arts/artists.
