The Good Portion - God: The Doctrine of God for Every Woman

Rate this book
God has revealed Himself to us in His Word. As we study what He says about Himself, and see more of His perfection, worth, magnificence and beauty, we glimpse His glory. This second title in The Good Portion series looks at what the Bible says about God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – that we might know Him better and glorify Him.

Very good book

This book is great to read for a Bible Study. It made me feel exited to learn about God more. It's a very in depth study.

Wonderful and clear meditation on the character and attributes of God. Accessible and easy to understand for both male and female readers of all ages.

“Unless we know God as He is, we cannot see ourselves as we are.”

This series is a much needed collection of topics all Christians should venture to comprehend more fully. “Theology should always result in doxology.” I am singing praise to God after closing this last page. What joy to call him mine!

This is a pretty good book discussing the doctrine of God. There a few things I would question or define differently, but over all good.

Things I pondered:
•The definition of mercy. I think it may be over simplified.
•The Authors attempt to distinguish the roles of the trinity. While there are distinctions I felt sometimes she tired overly hard to give them a “category”. It felt to me the over distinctions of the person of the trinity sometimes minimized their oneness. I just felt like they were unnecessary at times.
•The last chapter… the author makes a statement I am still pondering. I feel like, I agree on some levels… but the author makes it seem like God’s triune nature and full glory couldn’t or wouldn’t have been revealed without the fall of man. Idk if that is true, something to think on.

I may recommend every theologically based book I read, but this one is a MUST-READ for every believer. Stark goes from surface-level understanding to in-depth explanations supported by scripture on who God is. This book is so well done, I would probably call it the perfect primer to any systemic theological study of God. 2 thumbs up and all the stars 👍👍 I know the basics backwards and forwards, and even some deep insights on this topic, yet this book was able to draw out more wisdom and things I've never thought or pondered about. I learned a lot, despite this book being a "God 101" book. Love it. Recommend it to everyone, brothers and sisters in Christ alike.

I think for a quick simple theology book for new Christians it's good..but if your looking for something more I would recommend something much more in depth like a catechism study. I have been shocked at the number of those who were never taught this even as children who have been in faith for a long time.

A good introduction to basic theology. This would be an excellent resource to use in discipling a young person or a young believer.

Very in-depth. I had to go slow and take notes. It's definitely a reread book.
