Descent into darkness… Six years after his betrothed was murdered in the foyer of his London home, Daniel Harrington, the Marquess of Ravenhall, is consumed by rage and a thirst for justice. He spends his days searching for the man who killed his love and works tirelessly to right the injustices of others. Nothing, however, seems to heal the hole left in his heart. Though he vows to never love another, his father, the Duke of Ware, has other ideas. Tired of his son’s disregard for his birthright, the duke arranges for his son to be married to Lady Christina Princeton.
Longing for love… Christina Princeton has longed for a Season to choose for herself the perfect companion with whom to share a life. Convinced by her father that she is too plain, too plump, and too practical, she wishes for a man who can see her for the woman she is inside. Dismayed when her father reveals his plans for her marriage, she considers the option until she finds the man she is to marry is the very same she witnessed carrying out an act of shocking violence.
Despite the wall Daniel has built around his heart, Christina slowly begins to pry through the cracks, searching for the kind, caring man of whom she has seen but glimpses. With the past haunting them and new dangers emerging, they must help one another fight all that threatens them. Will they be lost to the darkness forever, or will new love overcome all odds?
The last book in the Searching Hearts series, this can be read as a standalone novel. It's a guaranteed happily ever after! For readers 18+, due to some steamy content.

Ellie St. Clair is a new-to-me author who could easily become a favorite. She did a lovely job with what could have been a very dark book. The story was well plotted and well written. Christina, our heroine, is a lovely young woman who is calm, intelligent, mature, and she doesn’t do even one TSTL thing. Daniel, our hero, is a tortured soul who has built walls around his heart and won’t let anybody through – even his family. Daniel is bent on revenge and nothing and nobody will stop him.
The family of Daniel Harrington, the Marquess of Ravenhall is very, very worried about him. For six years he has shut his family out and become a virtual hermit at his country estate and they don’t really understand why. Yes, his fiancé died, but he should be over it by now and getting on with his life. What he hasn’t told them is that she was murdered and he found her body on his threshold. He knows who did it and he has every intention of exacting his revenge on him. That rage and hunger for revenge have consumed him for six long, dark years.
Daniel’s family is so desperate that his father, the Duke of Ware, has decided to take desperate measures. He is going to force his son to marry and the only way to do that is to demand he come to London and then demand he marry. The Duke sends a message demanding Daniel’s return, which Daniel intends to ignore – until he reads the letter from his solicitor saying all of his funds have been frozen. Daniel has absolutely no choice and heads toward London.
Lady Christina Princeton is the daughter of a Marquess, but she has never had a season. Her father just never got around to it. Christina has dreamed of, longed for, a lovely season where she can dance and choose a man to love and cherish for a husband. Her father has always denigrated her by telling her she is too plump, too intellectual, not particularly pretty, etc. yet she is still a confident forthright, steady young woman with a very loving outlook on life.
Christina’s father has now made plans for his life that don’t include Christina, so he’s ready for her to be married and sees no need to go through the trouble of a season. He is, after all, good friends with the Duke of Ware who has a son who needs to be married. So, the two men get together and decide to force a marriage between their two children.
Christina and Daniel don’t have a very auspicious first meeting – you’ll have to read the book to find out about it -- but despite Christina’s misgivings, they end up married anyway. I loved watching Christina’s sweet nature, mature attitude and plain-spoken ways gradually chip away at Daniel’s frozen heart. Of course, he fights it every step of the way. What will happen when Daniel finally gets the murderer of his fiancé in his sights? Will he take his vengeance and risk losing Christina or will he do what he can to keep the warm, lovely lady he has come to love?
There is also a small secondary romance with Daniel’s best friend Lord Hudson and Christina’s friend Lady Beatrice. It is sweet, but is definitely in the background and doesn’t impact the larger story. I like Lord Hudson and Beatrice and was glad to see their affection grow. Everyone should have a friend like Lord Hudson in their lives!
The only thing that would have made the book better for me would have been for Christina’s father, the Marquess of Burrton to have something impact his cozy little world. I’d like him to have some sort of punishment for the unforgivable way he treated his daughter. Maybe he could become a laughing stock of the ton or fall off his horse and break his leg – something.
Anyway – a great read and I’ll be looking forward to another one by this new-to-me author.
"I requested and received this e-book at no cost to me and volunteered to read it; my review is my honest opinion and given without any influence by the author or publisher."
I read this one out of order but it did not detract from the storyline. The mystery was pretty easy to solve but the story was engaging. The Hero was a total idiot for 75% of the book. He was so hung up on his previous love that it just got tiresome. He was so mean to the heroine and he had no reason to be. He cut her off all the time and said cruel things to get. I really don't know why she loved him. I did like the story overall and I might go back and read the other ones in the series. The epilogue made me curious about the rest of the family.
A forced marriage, demons from the past, a murderer in the present. But also: friendship, love and conquering those demons. Beautiful written with lovely characters and more than one romance... I loved it! I received a copy and chose to review it.
A darker read that will have you hoping and leave you shocked! This one is not full of fluff which I love because you get characters that really need saving and love. Both will pull at your heart in different ways and shock you at times. Their first meeting most definitely was not a good one, but it lit the spark. They came to an agreement, but of course, their hearts aren't going to listen. When they finally give in it's an explosion. I was so sucked into the story that I jumped at the same time characters did because I did see the person coming. The killer was a complete shock that I did not see coming at all and the ending to that made me hold my breath.
Christina is not your typical lady and I wouldn't mess with her. At first, she comes off a little pushing, but she grows on you with how forward she is in telling him what she wants. She really kept her head high even with everything her father would say to her. I loved her spirit.
Daniel is being held by such a powerful need for justice that its heartbreaking. There is so much more to him than meets the eye. The work he does is amazing, but also a bit scary with somethings that are hinted at. I held my breath when he went out for the last time afraid he would go through with his plan. When he let go it was like a new person.
I loved his family and friend because they all wanted him to be happy. Her father I think really was trying to make sure she was happy but didn't know how to interact with her.
Six years after his betrothed Laura was murdered in the foyer of his London home, Daniel Harrington, the Marquis of Ravenhall, is consumed by rage and a thirst for justice. He spends his days searching for the man who killed his love and works tirelessly to right the injustices of others. Tired of his son’s disregard for his birthright, his father, the Duke of Ware arranges for his son to be married to Lady Christina Princeton. Christina has longed for a Season to choose for herself the perfect companion with whom to share a life. Convinced by her father that she is too plain, too plump, and too practical. Another very good book from the author, this is the fifth in the series but could be read on its own. The characters are well portrayed & have plenty of depth. The story flows effortlessly, it has murder, an arranged marriage, revenge & of course romance. I found it very hard to put down & the pages flew by as I was engrossed in the story, I read it in under a day.
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
So this is my 36th book by Ellie St. Clair. She used to be one of the authors I would read when my "regular" authors did not have any new releases out. But at this point I've read so many of her books, she has become a "regular" author and one of my favorites. :) I read book 1, Quest of Honor way back in 2018 and didn't remember and never got anymore. I saw in my newsletter from Ellie that she reedited and updated some things and reissued the series in 2023. I decided to go ahead and check out the rest of the series.
I liked Daniel and Christina's story. Daniel was so hell bent and couldn't see anything around him and I love that Christina was WAY stronger than she first seemed to be. Nice finish to the series. I love series with siblings being the main characters in each one.
An incredible story full of twists and mystery that will entraitment you until the last page... A voyage to heal two hearts... a murder to find... trust to learn... The characters are well developed as well the story... Don't miss it! A received a free book and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Daniel’s first love Laura was killed in his London townhouse six years ago and her killer has gotten away with it. He sold this residence and hid out on his country estate haunted by what he had seen and vowing justice. His father forces him to come to London and arranges his marriage to Christina by cutting off his funds if he doesn’t comply. Daniel has been secretly helping other women and their families who have become victims because he couldn’t save his fiancé and he knows without his father’s financial support he would have to discontinue his project, so he complies with his wishes. But he isn’t happy about it. Christina first sees him fighting with the man he believes killed his fiancé and she wants nothing to do with him until her father forces her to choose between the Marquess and her dastardly cousin. Her father never gave her season, thought she was unmarriageable, but now that he is remarrying he wants her out of his house and doesn’t care what happens to her. Daniel is so angry at the world and Christina has a fight on her hands getting him to see past his all consuming quest for revenge at all costs and reaching for happiness and love again. I loved that Christina was bookish and had a quiet strength. Lady Beatrice and Lord Husdon were great friends to Daniel and Christina and I hope to read their story soon.
Per the author’s request **NO SPOILERS** Oh how I really want to share some of what is in this book. This is a must read. It is a well written book. I really, really enjoyed reading it. The storyline of murder, attempted murder, love lost, revenge, manipulations, loyalty, misguided loyalty, anger, animosity, justice, romance and love. Promise of Redemption is a journey of two hearts searching for something but found it in each other. There is such emotion in the telling of this story. Feelings such as rage, unrequited love, pain, contradictory feelings, friendship, a loving family and parents, just to name a few. There were ultimatums issued, an arranged marriage, truths to be faced, falsehoods to overcome, justice to seek, a murderer to uncover and peace to be found. The characters were so well written, that it was easy to identify with them. There were many twists and turns in this plot. There was action and danger all based on misinformation and betrayal of a most trusted person. You will never guess who is responsible for the murder. This had a surprising ending. I highly recommend this book. I received an Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Daniel has become bitter and resentful after the death of his betrothed 6 years earlier! Daniel was commanded by his parents to return to London as they still controlled the purse strings! When Daniel finds he has to wed he is extremely upset! Christina is also told she has to wed but not much else! Initially Christina is strong and stands up for herself! Daniel is mean temperamental jerk who treats her like crap especially after the wedding! I didn't like how Christina quickly fell for him in spite of how he treated her! Christina cries a lot! She is supposed to be strong she entered the marriage with no choice never having met any other prospects due to her skinflint father! Once Christina understands Daniel and his need for revenge she tells him she at least wants a child to love! Then he takes weeks to even think about coming back to her bed! The end is not what you think! We have a strong heroine and a mean and bitter future Duke! Will there be a HEA read on.....
I really have enjoyed all of the books in this Searching Hearts series & this one was wonderful. It had danger, murder, revenge, arranged marriage, romance, love & a little spice to make it complete. I enjoyed Daniel Harrington, Marquess of Ravenhall & future Duke of Stow, our hero & Lady Christina Princeton, our heroine - they were so engaging & you felt Daniel's need for revenge, his dark moods, his rage & his never healing heart after his love was murdered years ago. I was drawn to Christina's kind, loving, forthright attitude yet the sadness she felt from the less than stellar treatment from her father all her life & then the rejection from Daniel after their parents forced their marriage. The secondary characters were great in the story & I hope we get to see Viscount Albert Hudson & Lady Beatrice Jamieson, daughter of the Earl of Broughton. I highly recommend all of the books in this series.
Promise of Redemption by Ellie St Clair, features Daniel Harrington, the Marquess of Ravenhall and his wife by an arranged marriage, Lady Christina Princeton. Lord Harrington is focused on revenge, and his wife attempts to convince him that revenge will only cause more problems. The story is well written, has an intriguing plot and a satisfying finish. An enjoyable book to read, it captivated me with plot and character. It also has murder, mystery, betrayal, and a whirlwind of emotions and unexpected surprises that included just the right amount of twists. The characters are so well done that they are easily envisioned by the reader, who at this point is kept immersed in the book from the beginning. A must read for those who love historical romances. Recommended! Gifted with a copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Revenge, murder, mystery…….and love I received a free advanced copy of this book and am voluntarily providing my honest review. Two people, married off by their fathers through a contractual agreement? Could it work if the one was consumed by the past, hell bent on revenge whilst all the other wanted was to find love……. Christina, daughter of the Marquess of Burrton is told by her father that she shall marry the future Duke of Ware, Daniel Harrington, Marquess of Ravenahll. Daniel is lost in the past and consumed by hate and revenge. What ensues is a battle between the two to reach a common ground and move forward. These characters have depth and emotions run high in this book. It is a great book to read and you experience highs and lows whilst reading as you experience the emotions of Daniel and Christina. Prepare yourself for the end as it has a kick to it!
This was a wonderful story with a very embittered and vengeful hero who found redemption in the woman his father arranged for him to marry. Daniel the Marquess of Ravenhall lost his betrothed when she was murdered by a spurned suitor. Daniel's heart and mind are filled with vengeance against the man he believes killed the woman he loved so when his father demands he marry Lady Christina Princeton or lose his funds, Daniel resigns himself to a loveliness marriage for he made a vow to his deceased fiancee to never love another. Daniel didn't count on Christina's charm, or her loving and caring heart. Daniel had a lot of anger to overcome and I truly felt for Christina who only wanted Daniel to love her. The journey to that conclusion was a rough one for the heroine and I found myself immersed in the story. This is one book that I highly recommend!
All her life Christina had heard her father tell her she was plain and read far to much, who wanted a bluestocking for a wife. Daniel Harrington, Marquess of Ravenhall found his betrothed murdered in his house and for six years now stayed alone and took care of his small estate. He is heir to a duke. The characters meshed so well, especially since the arrangement, that the father's had decided on. Lord Hudson, his best friend, helped run houses for the poor women and children that were abused or just a family who needed a helping hand. There are some surprises along the way but the story is very good and keeps you focused. I really enjoyed the writing of the author and the logic she used to make it all run smoothly. I received this ARC from the author and voluntarily reviewed it.
SLOW BURN!!! Talking about tapping out. Ellie really knows how to tell a story with strong characters that are well developed and believable. Their personalities are unique with qualities and traits that balance out perfectly. The scenes are so graphic and descriptive it paints a fantastic backdrop that really makes the plot pop. Twists and turns abound with unexpected surprises keep the suspense and intrigue until the very end. This is a no brainer to grab this bad boy. Ellie did an incredible job bringing this read to life flawlessly. Great job Ellie, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.
Enjoyed the book. It is well written and easy to follow. Daniel has cut himself off from society after the murder of his fiancé. As he is to inherit a dukedom, his father decides it is time for him to marry and finds him a bride. Christina is informed, by her father, that she will marry Daniel or her loathsome cousin. Daniel has never dealt with his grief and the marriage does not start off very well. There is eventually a HEA but not before Christina is put in grave danger. The book is worth reading and I would highly recommend it.
This is a story involving manipulative parents who want to see their offspring married. Where as in Daniel’s case, his parents wanted him to be happy, Christina’s father was only concerned about his own welfare. I liked Christina’s character, she was willing to make the best of the situation and eventually turned out to be a stronger person. Daniel had a number of issues to contend with, including revenge for his former love. This was an entertaining read with a mystery and romance. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I'm going to try to give you an idea of what this book is about without any spoilers. After getting into this book the only thing I knew for sure was, I didn't do it. Daniel has been ordered by his father to marry or lose his inheritance. He is focused on finding the person that murdered his betrothed and he wants to no interference. Will he be able to obey his father's wishes and still find the answers he needs? If he marries will he be able to make room in his life for a new wife? Once I started reading this book, I was unable to put it down. You will not regret buying this book.
Daniel's fiancé was murdered, and he wanted nothing to do with love ever again. He was determined to destroy the man who murdered his betrothed. His life was only centered around delivering justice. However, he was the heir to a dukedom, and he had to marry in order to produce the heir and the spare. His father arranges for him to marry Christina, the daughter of a friend of his. It was a cold arrangement, but can it be more than that? Can Daniel find justice for the murder of his fiancé? You must read the book to find the answers.
Maybe it’s my mood today, but I was a bit disappointed that this didn’t really cater to any of my favorite tropes. I thought it would feature a plain, plump heroine, but apparently her father is just kind of a jerk and told her she’s unattractive when she’s actually pretty. There was a pretty nice setup for some angst, but I couldn’t help but feel that the hero was rather an idiot, and the heroine's Mary-Sue-ness kind of grated. The groveling/ending was to saccharine for my tastes. Well, at least it had an interesting plot and some sex.
A book of Daniel whose first love was murdered and her loss sent him into a spiral of grief, guilt, and rage which led him to seek revenge on the murderer. His parents decide it is time for him to marry, so they arrange for a bride. The fact that they have never met is a factor for them both. Christina is being forced also. If she refuses this opportunity her father will marry her to her cousin who is a gambler and broke. It is not an easy decision for them. How they decide to marry and what they make of their marriage is the story.
Delightful Regency Tale with a Twist. Daniel and Christina are pushed together by their families and ‘encouraged’ to wed. Daniel has suffered a trauma in the past and does not want to feel affection for anyone again as it hurts too much. Can Christina help him put the past behind him to live in the present? Will Daniel get his longed for revenge? Lots of intrigue in this book with a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming. Well written story that I couldn’t put down.
A heart rending tale of revenge so deep rooted that when a chance for love comes along it may take away any happiness. Daniel and Christine are forced to marry but Daniel is so bitter and Christine has been told by her father how unattractive she is that the marriage is a nothing more than two people ignoring each other. After giving in to passion they develop feelings but Daniel needs to let go of the past to have a future with Christine. Follow their story of redemption and peril.
The shortbread with such promise . Daniel' s anger and fear of hurt lasted barely to the third chapter. Her unhappiness at her being denied a season and a choice of husbands was hardly there at all. Ms. St. Clair writes well but doesn't seem to have the patience to develop e real characters: Daniel is more realistic than our heroine, I think. Sorry I couldn't give a higher rating.
Wow this book was beyond my expectations. Having read all the books in the series this one about Daniel and Christina was just brilliant. Although at times I wanted to slap Daniel . It's a story of revenge and I just couldn't put it down and it really does have a twist at the end but nevertheless a happy one for Daniel and Christina. I did have a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye at the end of the last chapter. Well done Ellie I just loved it.
He was hunting for the man who murdered his fiancee. She was always told she was too plain to get a husband so she is shocked when her father tells her she is due to marry. The problem starts when she knows who he is. She had seen him at a murder scene. What will she do? Will they have a future? See what will happen I received an advanced copy and I enjoyed it so much that I want to review
This story has heart wrenching moments, and unexpected twists and turns. The main characters in this novel are well developed and emotionally charged. This historical novel is not for the light-hearted but for those who will be drawn in by the deep emotions of the characters and the drama of the mystery.
