“Setup in Savannah” is Book 7 in the Made in Savannah Cozy Mysteries Series
BONUS: RECIPE INCLUDED!
When Mercedes Garlucci is setup for a murder she didn’t commit, she and her family must track down the real killer before their mafia past is exposed. -------------------------------------------------------- Carlita Garlucci is thrilled that her daughter-in-law and grandchildren have arrived in Savannah for their first visit. She secretly hopes that they will fall in love with the area and decide to move to the beautiful city, bringing her that much closer to fulfilling her late husband’s dying wish.
The family is on their way and Carlita is anxiously awaiting their arrival when she receives an urgent phone call from her daughter, Mercedes, who is in the riverfront district, where she was planning to meet another author to discuss a cold case murder.
When Mercedes arrives at the meeting place, she finds the author’s body lying on the ground. As investigators begin to delve into the man’s death, they begin uncovering clues, and they’re pointing right at Mercedes.
Mercedes, her family and friends begin an investigation of their own and quickly realize someone close to Mercedes has set her up. Can they track down the killer before the cops delve into the Garlucci family history, putting all of them at risk?
While I enjoy Hope Callaghan's writing, this book seemed a little light on plot. Think maybe to much going on. Not enough depth to mystery. Still I will be looking forward to the next in the series about Savannah.
Carlita, Mercedes, and their friends are at it again to solve a mystery in Savannah. I love all the colorful characters, the suspenseful story lines and the magnificent scenery of Old Savannah. I recommend this book for those who love clean cozy mysteries.
Setup in Savannah is the seventh book in Hope Callaghan’s awesome Made in Savannah Cozy Mystery Series. Once again, Ms. Callaghan has written a well thought out and interesting mystery, with a great story line, affable characters, and lots of humor. The writing style flows smoothly and this is an easy read, which doesn’t contain any gratuitous sex, graphic violence, or adult language. I highly recommend all the books written by this author to readers who enjoy well-crafted cozy mysteries.
Carlita Garlucci’s youngest son, Paulie, who’s having marital problems and currently staying in Savannah, has convinced his wife, Gina, to bring their three children to Savannah for a visit and Carlita is so excited. In an attempt to get some insider information about the decades-old murder for her new murder mystery novel, Mercedes has agreed to meet with author, Jon Luis, who has written a series of books about several high profile unsolved murders. Since Jon refused to meet her in a public location during the day, she asked her best friend, Autumn, to stay in the background and make sure there are no problems. Mercedes literally stumbles upon Jon’s body and both young women become suspects when his death is ruled a murder. Elvira Cobb, Carlita’s annoying and troublesome tenant, is still causing problems and may have gone too far this time.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
In Setup in Savannah (Book 7), Hope Callaghan weaves a delightful tale of Savannah history, unsolved murders (cold cases), the mafia with an author's group, humor, recipes and a book nook. Elvira Cobb, Carlita's annoying tenant finally get's her just rewards. Lies and intrigue carry the plot forward. Autumn is Mercede's true friend. A well crafted cozy mystery - a well thought out plot with humorous and nail biting twists and turns and likable extended family (a widow with her sons and daughter making a fresh start).
Carlita Garlucci's daughter Mercedes belongs to a writers group that was discussing Jon Luis a writer that had info on the Madison Square Murder in Savannah. Mercedes agreed to meet with him and had her friend Autumn follow her to keep a watchful eye on her when Mercedes tripped over a body. The police was called and the body was Jon Luis. Mercedes became a suspect and she feels she was set up for the murder. Mercedes proceeds investigating trying to figure out who murdered Jon Luis. Carlita's family are visiting and Elvira her tenant causes trouble. An ending with a twist.
I love this book. Another great book in the series. Mercedes joined a local writers' group to help with ideas, publishing etc for her books. It was suggested that she try and contact a local, but recluse author, who wrote about local crime stories. She made an appointment to meet him, but when she arrived at the appointed place she found a dead body. She now found herself the prime suspect. It was up to her and her family to prove, not only that she hadn't committed the murder, but who had.
The "Murder in Savannah" series is the best one yet, although I have loved them all!! The only reason I don't give the book a 5 star rating is that there are numerous grammatical errors and when I see mistakes, whether they are spelling or grammar, it throws me off and I have to go back and pick up from the previous sentence. On the other hand, I haven't read one cozy mystery book so far that doesn't contain mistakes, so I'm sort of getting used to them!!! The fact that Ms. Callaghan writes books that don't contain foul language, sex scenes or gore makes a big difference to me!!!
This is such a great cozy mystery series. In this particular book Mercedes is planning to meet an author to give her some tips on unsolved murders in Savannah. She is using him to research a new book she is writing. She sets up a time to meet by the riverfront district and finds his dead body. Mercedes and her boook group start investigations of their owwn. All things cast suspicion on Mercedes. Is Mercedes being set up. How did a gun turn up in her dumpster. I love these haracters the recipes in every book. You cannot read just one of these. Authors style of writing is fantastic!
Hope you kept me on my toes with this one. In this story Mercedes is framed for the murder of another author. He was investigating cold cases in Savannah. Mercedes was to have a meeting with him and when she got to their meeting place she finds him dead. Who wanted him dead, and who would go to the trouble to set her up. It's a great story and someone has gotten on Carlita's last nerve. Find out who in Setup in Savannah.
While Carlita tries to get her son and daughter-in-law on the same page, Mercedes and Autum work together t o find out who is trying to set Mercedes up for the author's murder. Will the murderer get off Scott free? Will Carlita finally have enough of Elvira's tom foolery? Have to read to find out. Best of the books so far.
I love this series for the mystery solving. The plot is well written and the characters well defined. If you want a good murder mystery with quirky characters and humor written in, this is an excellent series. I am looking forward to the next book, "Made in Savannah" 😉
Another fun mystery. This book follows daughter Mercedes as she gets setup for murder. However, mafia / mystery write Mercedes isn’t going to just sit by and let the police make a case against her! Again, I did not figure this one out until they revealed the murderer at the very end. I love following the Garlucci’s...never a dull moment!
Having read nearly the entire Savannah series I must say a hearty thanks. Thanks for such an entertaining series and especially thanks for clean reading. Before summer arrives I hope to have read all of Hope Callaghan's books. I have an excellent start inasmuch as I discovered her a few years ago. Keep writing and I will keep reading.
Another great cozy mystery from Hope Callaghan in the Savannah series. This time Mercedes finds herself a suspect in the murder of a true crime author. Who set Mercedes up and can they find the real murderer before she's locked up and the key is taken away? If you like whimsy, cozy, light-hearted mysteries with great characters, then this series is one that you have to give a try.
Story lines of this cozy series are always fun. Characters are interesting and consistent. The thing that drives me crazy is use of dialectical grammar such as gonna, wanna, ain’t, ya. The most distracting is dropping the “g” on -ing words. This does not add to character development. Please revise!
Mercedes and Carlina need to solve a true crime author's murder before Mercedes is arrested for the crime. They are also hosting Paulie's family at the same time and dealing with Elvira as well. Add a few Italian recipes as a bonus for another winner.
I love Carlita & her family. This one involves Gina, the daughter-in-law who comes to visit and sparks fly. These books are a fun fast read & totally addicting! You have to read it to see what Elvira is up to now!!
If you haven't read any of Hope Callaghan's cozy mysteries yet than your missing out all of her series are great with characters you will love and stories that will keep you up all night to Finnish and waiting for the next
Another good, clean mystery by Hope! Love her Savannah series. She keeps you guessing with many twists and turns. Love the characters and touches of humor! Her books are hard to put down and you find yourself taking breaks just to read another few pages!
Love the family dynamics. Hope Paulie and Gina move to Savannah. Mercedes should publish her book. I have read the whole Savannah series and can't wait for the next one
Not really my cup of tea. Repetitive in spots, dialogue wasn't realistic, and characters were juvenile. I love the city of Savannah, but this is not the way to enjoy a good Savannah type mystery.
In this series the excitement never stops. Couldn't put this one down. I enjoyed the Espionage, the family Dynamics and of course the pasta! On to the next.
This was a good mystery. It was a little more involved than the previous mysteries in the series and you have to pay close attention to catch the details but it was good.
Love this series, Savannah is my favorite city and I am from NYC. The characters are great and the plots are fun to follow. Great easy read to relax with.
