Undercover FBI #6

Special Agent Charli

Rate this book
The only man she wants in her life is her old Gramps, and all he wants is a grandchild.

Special Agent Charli can’t get a break. After the stress of her last horrific assignment, all she wants is to spend time holidaying with her Gramps in Ft. Lauderdale, a city they both love. Plans go awry, and she’s forced into witness protection, defending a teenage girl who’s the only person able to identify a notorious killer.

To make matters worse, she has to accept the womanizing local police captain as her fictitious fiancé so they can work the dangerous case together.

Heaven knows, she doesn’t deserve this mess…

Blake Sebastian is tired of his role as lover for the women who hang around him in droves. Problem is, he doesn’t trust any of them with his heart, never mind his future.

When pushed, he admits to the curly-headed, disapproving FBI agent under his jurisdiction, a man can get sick of so much sugar. Every so often, he needs a little sour to offset that much sweetness.

She was not impressed.

Special Agent Charli (Undercover FBI #6) by Mimi Barbour was a romantic/crime thriller that captured my attention and held it until that last page was flipped.

My first read by this author and in this series, no worries they read as stand alones so you don't have to read the other five books to play catch up, I mean, if you want to you can. But I can tell you that after reading this gem I'm going back and binge-read the other five.

This tall drink of water really pulled me into the story and it's plot right from the get go. I not only loved the quirky characters and their multi layers, but I loved the way they interacted and how through a dangerous need, became a pretty awesome team. It just goes to show you can't judge a book. (See what I did there..ah ha ha.....)

I liked Charli, she really carried the story and wasn't a push over. Sure she had some annoy sides to her, but it made her a grounded, human like character, that could actually exist in real life.

Blake.. he was a hard one for me to like at first, very alpha male and very.. you know.. alpha cop. But once the story got fully under way and he opened up, I started to fall for him just as much as Charli. But, in all, I have to give the battle of MC's to Charli.

Overall I very much enjoyed the plot, the mystery and the slow burn romance that really started to get me in the feels. Once that thriller part got under way.. wow.. as I said, I'm going back and reading the other book. Cause I like the way this author not only writes, but thinks.

So yes, this book gets my super high recommendation and my stamp of approval.

Happy Reading

This book was so good! It has been my favorite of the series so far. I have a soft spot in my heart for children and this book hit right in my heart. Charli is a great FBI agent, but she has been undercover and needs some down time. She was to spend that time with her only living relative—her grandfather. Their relationship was so sweet and I could feel the love. Poppa John also has a wonderful sense of humor. Alicia is a teenager who lives with a foster family in the same building as Charli. There are some people who should never be foster parents. Alicia’s foster parents were terrible. When Alicia witnesses a man murder a woman in the apartments over from Alicia’s, the foster parents are terrible and don’t want anything to do with her. Alicia trusts Charli and runs to her apartment to ask for her help.

Charli and Alicia are put in witness protection, names changed and sent to Florida. Blake works for the Ft. Lauderdale police and is assigned to help keep Charli and Alicia stay safe. Blake is a handsome, sought after man by many women. Charli hates to see women fall all over Blake so she isn’t too nice to him. My heart went out to Alicia because she never had someone who put her first, hugged her, or gave her love. She finds all this with Charli. Charli and Blake were fun to watch getting closer.

It is so hard to imagine a man who has no regrets about killing people. It is hard to believe that he had so many disguises that the police could never catch him. Since Alicia saw his face, he needs to kill her and the police needs to protect her.

There is so much more happening in the book that you need to read. I loved seeing some of the changes in Charli and how she helped another teenager. I can’t encourage you enough to read this book.

Special Agent Charli (Undercover FBI Book 6) by Mimi Barbour is the first book I've read by this author. It was fantastic.

I enjoyed the way the characters were set up. There is obviously something that has happened to "Charli" in the past and yet I didn't feel slighted not knowing exactly what it was because of the way the story unfolded. There is no question as to who the good guys and the bad guys are in this story. In addition to the mystery of the story (nothing like a good witness protection story) I also loved the overall message of the story that EVERYONE is worthy to be loved. The younger characters really pulled at my heart strings and I hope they get their own story in the future. I bet they go on to do amazing things in this world.

The story moves along quickly, I was able to read it in one sitting and while it had some steamy parts, there weren't so many that it made them gratuitous. The word count in the story is perfect. It was a great book to snuggle down with on a chilly Sunday afternoon (it was a beautiful sunny afternoon and I should have been outside, but the book was soooo good that I didn't want to put it down.)

The dedication of the story and knowing that one of the characters is modeled after such an important person made me smile and wish I had such a relationship in my life.

I will begin "following" the author to see what other stories they have written. 5 stars for an enjoyable book.

Special Agent Charli by Mimi Barbour is he sixth book in her Undercover FBI series. This whole series can be read as a stand-alone although I won’t be able to stop myself from binge reading the frost 5 books now.
This book should be read, if for nothing else, then for Charli’s Gramps. He is such a great character and I found him so entertaining the whole way through. This guy could carry a book on his own!!
But don’t let this fool you. The whole book was amazing. Charli and Blake are a brilliant combination. They play off each other so well and have a great chemistry. At first it seems like that two won’t get on at all but once they get past each other’s facade then it is easy to see who they will work well together.
The story has everything as well. Action, pace, romance, it checks all the boxes. You get sucked into this story straight away and I found I had to read it all in one sitting as I simply could not put the book down. I had to know what happened next and I constantly found myself saying “just one more chapter...”
This was a great introduction to the series for me - even though it is book six. And I am excited to have five more to jump straight into. A book worth reading.

Burned out and craving a wonderful vacation with her beloved Gramps, special FBI agent Carolina "Charli" Madison is not too pleased when forced to change her plans, in order to protect Alicia, a troubled teenage girl who witnessed a murder. Since the killer is a notorious slippery gun for hire the bureau had their sights on for years, she accepts to protect the girl by pretending to be her step sister. Assigned to asist her is Major Blake Sebastian, who's supposed to play the role of her ex-fiance. Her sexy fellow cop likes women a lot, but in his mid thirties he doesn't enjoy his wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am lifestyle as much as he used to. While stuck under the same roof with Charli and Alicia, he begins to appreciate the rewards of settling down. And as the thriller/crime side of the story unfolds, Charli and Blake make a great team against a worthy adversary. All in all, a great read that has a bit of everything, and made me wistfully wish I had a Poppa John in my life, with all his kindness, quirkiness and ageless, non-judgmental humor. It was my first book by, Mimi Barbour, and I have discovered a new favorite author!

What a brilliant read! Fast paced, full of action –I could not put it down. This is also my first read by this author and what an introduction it was! I can’t wait to go and read the rest of the books in this series! The characters in the story were outstanding – I loved everything about them. Charli and Blake were great to read about. Charli was sassy and Blake is one of those characters you love to hate! But as much as loved them Poppa John was just it for me! I adored him!! By far one of my favourite characters!
I am really looking forward to reading more from this author in the future!

Special Agent Charli (Undercover FBI Book 6)
By: Mimi Barbour
5 out of 5 stars

The story Special Agent Charli (Undercover FBI Book 6) by Mimi Barbour is a wonderful book that I loved reading. It is a combination of romance/thriller that had my attention from the very first chapter and kept it all the way through to the last page. It is a page-turner that I didn’t want to put down. I loved reading about the characters of Charli Madison and Blake Sebastian. Charli is a special agent that has found herself being pulled into a protection detail for a young girl who is in danger. While she was going away on vacation because of her last assignment she knows that her help is needed. Charli is a woman that has built up walls and guards her heart. She doesn’t have serious relationships and she certainly is not going to start one with the very handsome and charming Blake Sebastian. Blake’s reputation is well known. He is a lady’s man and doesn’t have any problem attracting their attention. He has Charli’s attention however he seems to be rubbing her the wrong way. These two have to work together in order that a killer doesn’t succeed. When these two first meet the way that they banter is sometimes sarcastic and has conflict, however, they both can’t stop thinking about each other. He is starting to break down her walls/barriers. Will she let him into her heart? What does the future hold for Charli and Blake? Will the killer be caught? I found myself growing to love both the characters of Charli and Blake with every chapter that I read. I also loved reading about the character of Charli’s grandfather. I found him to be caring, resourceful, and independent. An amazing character indeed. This is a story that is well worth the time reading and one I would highly recommend.

Mimi Barbour's Special Agent Charli is the sixth book in the Undercover FBI series. This is the first book that I have read within this suspense series and it was a page-turner. The story immediately dives in and captures your full focus. The author does a firm job of detailing the characters from their personalities, traits and distinct characteristics. Charli is a take charge woman on the verge of something and her world does a 180 degree turn taking her out of her comfort zone and placing her on a path she's unsure she can handle or control. Adding Blake into the dynamic, all bets are off as personalities clash, emotions flair and chemistry leaks loose. This story fully engulfed me as I read through the chapters - one of those novels that just won't let go until you finish.

Special Agent Charli by Mimi Barbour a four-star read that will intrigue and mesmerise you. This is the sixth book in the Undercover FBI agent series and they are all true stand-alone reads, I haven’t read the preceding books but will be going back to check them out. Special Agent Charli Madison is a great character, she was funny and honest and someone you would love to help solve crimes. Charli is only one upped by her gramps, who is amazing, so very very funny. The chemistry between Charli and Blake will make you sizzle. This was a great read and I can’t wait the rest of the series.

***** A Wonderful 5* Read!

In the world of mystery writing, some things can be telling. Like when you want to drop everything else in order to read a certain book, because you HAVE to find out how it’s going to end. Mimi Barbour’s SPECIAL AGENT CHARLI was such a book––in spades. Starting out with a heart wrenching foster care scene, I immediately fell for Kayla, the abused, parentless girl. A touching teen, she was, without warning, suddenly thrust into a Hitchcockian situation and bam! The book was off and running.

The murder mystery itself was expertly paced; talk about little cliff hangers and edge of your seat chapter endings that headed toward a thoroughly dramatic, action-packed dénouement. But for me, what also created true staying power was the depth of the characters. Their motives, their backgrounds, their angsts, along with their consistent appeal. I really wanted the tough female lead, Charli, suffering from PTSD after a recently finished narcotics undercover stint, to fall for Blake, the sexy, used-to-women-throwing-themselves-at-him undercover cop and come together romantically...but because of their complete opposite dispositions, I wasn’t sure if it was ever going to happen. (No spoilers here!). Another star of the show was Charli’s Grandpa, her “Poppa John,” (Apparently based on Ms. Barbour’s own grandfather), who was a complete hoot, and a life saver in more ways than one. All in all, a wonderful 5* read!

Do love this series, and glad to see another by this author.
We meet Charli, a young teen who has been in the foster care, again, as a baby sitter while the couple and friends are out on the town, other then that she was not wanted. She witness a murder of a neighbor and they throw her out. With that Caroline, vacation is gone, as they go into witness protection. To work with her is a burn out captain, his life of womanizing and friends having kids, he is rethinking this life style. They don’t like one another, with working the case, they must. It is tense, packed with action and you love Charli and Caroline. Given ARC by Net Galley and Sarna Publisher for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Special Agent Charli is the first book I’ve read by Mimi Barbour but the sixth book in her Undercover FBI series. I stumbled across this author and while
I hate to “start a series” (whether stand alone or
not) so far into it, I couldn’t overlook this read. I was drawn by the synopsis and the promise of a close relationship between grandfather and granddaughter.
Special Agent Charli is one of those stories that grabs you right away with great imagery, but holds your attention with a little bit of everything- suspense, strong characters and a storyline that flows really well.
While Charli and Blake are fantastic, I really like the family aspect of this book and truth be told Poppa John stole the show for me. Every word his character uttered made me smile, intentional or not, I guess he captured my heart as much as he stole the show.
I am looking forward to reading more by Mimi Barbour in the future and I certainly recommend this read to anyone that loves a suspenseful read with a great collection of characters.

Special Agent Charli (Undercover FBI Book 6) by Mimi Barbour

5 Stars

This is my first book by this author and I sincerely enjoyed it, not sure why I haven't read anything else before this but I will be fixing that as soon as possible. The writing style is awesome and flowed perfectly, I almost didn't want the story to end. I loved all of the characters in this book but Gramps wins hands down for being my favorite.

I loved that it was full of everything I want in a book, suspense, love, family, mystery and most importantly a awesome cast of perfectly broken characters. I wanted to slap Blake a few times but he finally came around and I loved Charli’s spunk and attitude!

I highly recommend this book and have a feeling I will be recommending the rest of this series when I get it all read.

Awesome!! Loved it!!

One again lesson learned do not start on book 6 of a series even if someone tells you it can be read as a stand lone novel.
With that being said I plan to go back and read book 1-5 because the characters, story line and the authors ability to pull readers in from first to last characters had this readers hooked.
Special Agent Charli has a little bit of everything readers of this genre will love; Romance, Suspense, strong feisty female lead as well as what family is truly meant to be.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Sarna Publishing for a copy of Mimi Barbour Special Agent Charli

This is my favorite book by this author. It has a little bit of everything in it, from romance to suspense. I enjoyed how she is able to pull me into her story right from the start and does it with ease. The story is engaging and sitting on the edge of my seat twists and turns. Her characters are lovable and relateable especially Poppa John. Everyone needs a Poppa John in their lives. I enjoyed the chemistry between Charli and Blake, you don't want to miss it. I highly recommend this book

This romantic thriller captivated me on page one. It demanded to be read immediately. Who am I to say no?! The author does a fantastic job leaving the reader guessing until the very end. This book, although the sixth in this series, stands on its own very well. The characters are real and relatable (Poppa John is a gem). The plot is well developed and moves at a really good pace. Overall I highly r commend this book.

A VERY ADDICTIVE AND HEARTWARMING THRILLER

A fantastic read with strong interesting characters. An amazing thriller with interactions between FB I, local Law enforcement, witness protection and a very determined killer. Lots of ongoing action, intense dynamics between the main characters, and again a very intelligent killer who never stops. An added twist to this story are the surprising and unusual characters of two young girls and a severely independent grandpa.

I personally loved this story. I loved all the characters, I had my doubts about Blake and thought there might be too much attitude and arrogance for my taste. I'm glad I gave him a chance, he tended to be a little ornery, but likable. This statement is for Mimi Barbour I loved Poppa John. Charli and Kayla are brought together under strange circumstances. I loved how they became a team. As the story progressed the team grew. I really enjoyed this. In my opinion Mimi Barbour wrote a good suspense story, with love and family. If you are looking for smut this story doesn't have it, but it's not needed. I love Mimi Barbour's Undercover FBI Series. In my opinion if you are a fan of Undercover FBI Series Mimi Barbour did not disappoint. This is a stand alone story, but I would recommend reading the other books in this series. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

Best of the Undercover FBI series so far

Absolutely loved this story! Charli and Blake are two amazing characters that play off of each other well and have a chemistry that is on fire. The plot is great, and all the other characters fit so well with each other in this mix. And Gramps... he stole the show! A wonderful, lovable character that you just wish you could meet and get to know.

The only thing that stopped me from giving this book 5 stars was the fact that I missed where the main characters fell in love. I wouldn't know to tell what exactly happens between Charli and Blake. If it was insta -love or if it came gradually. Suddenly they just love each other. And it's a shame because they are deep characters and I wanted that moment as out there as possible. Charli has such a big heart and so much love to share that only someone like Blake could open her eyes. Blake, who ironically has been a womanizer all his life.

A story about forgiving youself, Charli 's case, about second chances, Kayla & Angie, and about believing that not all red heads are the same, right Blake?!?! As for Poppa John? I simply love him, thank you for your wisdom :)

Charli and Blake ❣

Special Agent Charli is one of my favourites of this series! She has just come off an undercover operation and needs some RnR with her Gramps, but before this can happen one of her neighbours pulls her in to another undercover operation, protecting her from a well known assassin. Charli and Kayla head to Fort Lauderdale where they meet up with Blake, a Major of the FLPD but also a major playboy! Things don’t go as planned and the killer gets closer than they ever could have imagined.

Loved this story, it kept me on the edge of my seat and I especially loved the characters and Poppa John - he was very funny and kept things light! Look forward to more in this series:)

Special Agent Charli is the sixth book in the Undercover FBI series by Mimi Barbour. I have read a few of her books now and she never fails to deliver a wonderful story that captivates me right from the beginning. I particularly loved this book, not just because the story was superbly written, full of intrigue, mystery, suspense, romance, sizzle, and some drama. But because the characters were just so incredibly endearing (well, except for the killer)- these characters really are the jewels in this story- they were so lovingly crafted into fully realised individuals with their own personalities, quirks and flaws. I was immediately invested in them and this fantastic story. I was so hooked, that I devoured the whole thing in one sitting. I could feel that the author put a lot of her heart and soul into this story and I feel the love she has for her own Poppa John, he is one of the best characters I have read. I just loved him, and even though he is a ‘supporting’ character, he really added something special to the overall storyline. Because of him, the story was sweeter, more emotional, tender and touching than it would have been without him. Don’t get me wrong, Charli, Blake, Alicia/Kayla, Angie, Star, and the rest of the cast are brilliant, and I loved them all- but Poppa John just elevated the whole story for me! There is a wonderful ‘feel good quality to the storyline because of him and the characters and their connection….
There were quite a few funny, lighter moments that helped to balance some of the more intense, heart wrenching and dramatic elements of the storyline. The funny quips and banter had me smiling like an idiot or laughing out loud.
The story is told from several perspectives, which helps to give a more in-depth view of the whole thing.
This isn’t my first book of Ms. Barbour’s, but it is definitely my favourite, so far! I am really looking forward to the next book!

Thank you, Ms. Barbour!

Special Agent Charli is the sixth book in the Undercover FBI series, but reads well as a stand alone. Charlie has just returned from an extremely stressful undercover drug case when danger knocks on her door in the form of a fourteen year old. Now charged with protecting the only witness to a murder, Charli goes back undercover down to Florida, where she’s forced to team up with FLPD Major Blake. Will she be able to fight their chemistry while keeping all of her charges safe?

This book is so fun, so engaging between the characters and the danger, and there’s just so much to enjoy about this book! Charli and Blake ended up making a great team and I loved all of the trials and past hurts they needed to overcome to find their own happiness, even when there’s a lot of interference with teenage girls, a grandfather, and the assassin zeroing in closer every day. Charli is so driven by her job and the only time she kicks back is with her grandfather, so I loved watching life butt in and give her the joy that she so desperately needed. Blake is a bit of a woman’s man, but I loved that right from the very beginning, he knew he was open to more. I loved that while Charli was the glue that brought everyone together, the one that everyone loved, Blake was more often the rock that held them all solid. I loved the girls and I loved Charli’s Popsicle! So cute! Also, I loved how detailed Ms. Barbour went into the case and I loved all of the different points of view! My one complaint would be that I wish there was a little more of the in between with Charli and Blake - as in the beginning there’s some major rough edges and then all of a sudden, problems resolved. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this book! I can’t wait to read more of these undercover FBI agents!

Special Agent Charlie is the 6th book in the Undercover FBI series by Mimi Barbour. It is a fantastic romantic crime thriller. Each book in this series is a complete separate story, a standalone. You can read the books in any order. I had not previously read any of the other books in this series but after reading this one, I’ll certainly go back and read the rest. This crime thriller grabbed me from the very first page and didn’t let go until the very end. There are so many twists and turns, and total surprises that you just can’t put this book down.
Having just finished a gruelling undercover case FBI special agent Carolina Madison (Charli) is looking forward to a relaxing holiday with her beloved grandpa. When her neighbour, 14 year old Alicia is witness to a shooting Charli is forced into witness protection with Alicia (now named Kayla). Once in witness protection, Police major Blake Sebastian is put in charge of Charli and Kayla. Blake is gorgeous and a total ladies man. Although Charli finds him attractive he totally rubs her up the wrong way and she wants nothing to do with him.
As they continue to work together to keep Kayla safe, as killer Dylan Ross is getting closer and is killing anyone who gets in his way, Charli and Blake then struggle to deal with the growing attraction to each other.
This story will keep you gripped throughout. The tension really ramps up as the killer gets closer and closer to discovering Kayla and Charli’s whereabouts.
I would thoroughly recommend this book. It is action packed, thrilling and has the added element of romance thrown in.

**I received a copy of Special Agent Charli from Harlequin-Carina Press and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. **

Special Agent Charli by Mimi Barbour is the sixth book in her Undercover FBI Book. Even though I haven't read any of the previous books I believe that it can be read as a standalone easily. I give the story a 4.5 star rating mostly because of Poppa John as he's a firecracker for being 90 years young and still has the energy to keep up with 2 teen girls.

Charli has just come off of a brutal long undercover job for the FBI and is looking forward to her vacation with her grandfather Poppa John. But when a young girl frantically knocks on her door after witnessing a hit man kill a woman little does she realize that she'll be taking having to postpone it and go into witness protection with Kayla instead of her "Popsicle". She'll meet Blake who seems to have women everywhere and another teen, Angie, who also needs protecting. Will she be able to trust Blake when he tells her that she the woman whom he wants not all the other ladies?

Blake is a major at his local police department when a friend calls in a favor to help guard a FBI agent and a girl who witnessed one of the most wanted hit men, Silverado, kill a woman. He'll soon become very protective of them much to the dismay of Charli who doesn't want help. But when Poppa John and the girls go missing Blake will step up to help find them and realize that with Charli and the girls he's found the family he's always wanted.

I give Special Agent Charli (Undercover FBI Book 6) by Mimi Barbour, 5 stars.

Charli just got off a very stressful undercover assignment that came close to breaking her. She has been approved to take a month-long vacation to unwind and get herself back together. She is in no frame of mind to take on another case. But when a girl comes to her begging for help, she can't say no. And when the girl needs to go into witness protection, she will only go if Agent Charli goes with her. Again Charli cannot say no to this girl, as much as she wants to. This leads her to Florida and the local police agent Blake Sebastian. Her cover is the fiance of this womanizing cop. She doesn't need another man in her life. But how does he seem to charm his way into her life? And will they be able to keep this frightened girl safe?

This was an incredible book. I have not read this series before and had no idea what to expect. I can understand where Charli is at in the beginning of the book. She is mentally burned out. She needs a relaxing vacation. But at the same time, she cannot risk this girl's life. Blake is also an engaging character. He is the stereotypical playboy, until he meets his match in Charli. The story is captivating - besides the possible romance between these two, there is plenty of suspense. There are multiple things going on in here, not just catching the bad guy and watching the romance try to bloom. I was on the edge of my seat until the end.

I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend it to those lovers of romantic suspense.

Special Agent Charli By Mimi Barbour was a great suspenseful 5 Star read for me. Not typically a fan of suspense but this book grabbed by attention from the very beginning. The book was well written and captivated the reader right away.

FBI Agent Carolina Madison just finished a long grueling case undercover and was due for a month long peaceful vacation. She had plans to visit Fort Lauderdale and have her Poppa John come visit for a bit. Her plans changed in the blink of an eye.

A neighbor down the hall witnessed something she shouldn’t have. Alicia is a minor who is currently living in horrific conditions. She was taken in by a couple who doesn’t even care for her. Now that her life is in danger, she needs to be put into witness protection and will only agree of Carolina is the one lookin after her.

The two change their names and looks and escape to another state in search of safety until the perp is captured. Carolina ( Charli ) isnt ready for all that happens when she agrees to keep Alicia ( Kayla ) safe. Everyone lives are threatened while some innocent lives are lost.

Blake Sebastian, Major with the FLPD is letting the two Charli and Kayla stay at his place. Blake is very good looking and he likes to have a good time with female company. He tries to get Charli’s attention but, she doesn’t give in easily. This book had me flipping the pages quickly and couldn’t wait to see what happens with the main characters. Perfect ending to a great book!
