When Jason saw his grandfather, the renowned surgeon Dr. Patrick Barron, carrying a woman’s lifeless body into the woods, he was terrified. When Dr. Barron admitted to it and started explaining why it was necessary, Jason’s world would never be the same. He was now both the hunter and the hunted in a battle filled with otherworldly killers wearing human faces, fanatical cultists, and grisly rituals used to see into strange lands beyond our own. Enter a world that is being called "a beautifully interwoven and amazingly original take on supernatural horror", filled with thrilling characters you will love and terrifying figures you will love to hate. This is the definitive entry point into The Outsiders universe—a place where nothing is what it seems and the heroes may be the biggest monsters of them all.
Is grandfather a serial killer or is something else going on? In this novel you'll hear about the outsiders who look like humans but have a seed inside and a cult named the House of Claws. Well, they are among as theme mixed with lots of killing and violence. The storytelling was okay but in the course of events a bit repetitive and monotonous. If you love John Carpenter's They Live you definitely should have a look here. Recommended!
This is a unique way of storytelling. It sucks the reader right in; trying to follow all the twists and turns, connecting one piece to the next. The plot and storylines are completely new, I have read many many stories, and most will have similar threads even if they are wholly unconnected. This story however, is different. It’s something I’ve not seen done before. The characters are multidimensional and I seriously can’t wait to hear more of their story!
I started reading some of Brandon's short stories on reddit/nosleep. I found a link that took me to Brandon's page and was happy to find a link to purchase his books.
If you are wanting weird, this is your book. Keep in mind this is the first book of a series of two, I believe. The book description is good. The book starts by a grandson seeing his grandfather, Dr Barron, carrying a dead women into the woods. The first half of the book establishes the story of what Dr Barron was doing and then how the grandson gets involved. Then at the second half, everything gets strange about "The House of the Claw" and the "Ascendants" and the "Nightlands". In the second half the story jumps around at times and it takes a bit to figure out what's going on. Very interesting and suspenseful.
I’m confused by the positive reviews for this book. It seems like the product of a high school level creative writing class — complete with grammatical errors. The story jumps so much between characters and settings that for most of the book the chapters seem loosely if at all connected. I read all the way to the end out of sheer curiosity about how any of it could possibly tie together. But it was wasted time because nothing really did. I’m not sure why amazon recommended this for me, but I definitely don’t recommend it to anyone else. If I read it as a first draft I’d say with a lot of heavy revision it might be entertaining. But the author clearly didn’t put in the work.
After hearing “The ghost tree”from the dark Somnium (btw it’s REALY GOOD you need to check it outt!)I haven’t thought that Brandon would have a story as good as it but I was wrong…The outsider is a MASTERPIECE ! such a gripping story, I enjoyed every part of itt and most importantly it was an easy read for me as a non-native English speaker:),Although I lowered my expectations before reading it ,because I was already amazed by “The ghost tree “that I convinced that i won’t find anything as good, but I found thiss, now it’s of my top favorites ~ I’m really excited to read part 2 and see how things will end^^ +im looking forward to read EVERYTHING that Brandon has written,he’s now my favorite write :3
I really dislike leaving anything but a 5 star review. But I had no choice on this one. The POV would change from one person to another, and I was constantly trying to figure out who was talking. The grammar didn't help the situation, with extra words thrown in and words missing in other places. And the ending... let me just say there wasn't one. It just stopped. I gave it 3 stars because the storyline moved along quickly and the characters were well fleshed out. But I won't be reading any other books in this series.
What l liked about it was that it was different from so many other horror/ thrillers l have read. At times l do find the " night" characters a bit over the top ( maybe like a teen novel) but l like the overall idea of the story. Just going to start book 2 and pre ordered book 3 ( which l hope won't be a bomb)
I was disappointed 😞😞 deeply that I read this to discover that it it just dropped away! 👎ENDING! I loathe any book that 👎ENDING! This book was worse than most !
I really like the story it kind of a reminds me of the show Supernatural but from different perspectives and I find the various characters and back stories very interesting.
Found this book on youtube of all places, was a cool story to lisen to while driving late from work. Love the character of the grandfather and how well he was fleshed out.
Read on r/nosleep. Entertaining but not particularly mindblowing; that being said, really fun premise, and I'll be reading more of the universe eventually.
Most of the negative reviews are due to people having trouble following the pov and I guess it might be a little difficult in this format rather than the way it's set up on Reddit (where I read it for the first time) but it's an amazing read. I've read it all the way through 3 times. The first time it was just amazing, the second time it gave me goosebumps upon realizing how seemingly mundane details are actually connected to the bigger picture. The third time that feeling was multiplied several times over when after having read more of his other works and realizing that they too are all connected in one way or another. If you are on the fence about it please take my word for it and go ahead and give it a shot. You won't be disappointed
This was the second book of Faircloth's I read and it HOOKED me!!! Paired with the second book in this series, I was absolutely blown away at how well Brandon was able to weave such amazing stand alone stories into such an elaborate overall story! He's like the Quentin Tarantino of books!
