Not many books have been written about the history of European/Western breakfast and surprisingly, it doesn't has a long history and the typical items of these breakfasts aren't even that 'western'. This book, in fact, has traced the history of how coffee, cocoa and tea which are all grown in the East came to be consumed in the West. Obviously, imperialism and colonialism played a significant role in bringing these drinks to the West and popularizing them there.
This book is quite eurocentric - it surrounds the history of non European countries to illustrate the development of French breakfast. Not sure if the title is a mistranslation but I think it would be more appropriate to name the book A History of French Breakfast instead. I was led to believe this book would touch on more cultures around the world.
