COLLECTING: MARVEL SUPER HERO ADVENTURES: CAPTAIN MARVEL 1-4
I am actually kinda wondering something about superheroes... why are so many of them called Captain something? Seriously. Captain Marvel, Captain America, Captain Atom, Captain Midnight, Captain Obvious, Captain Crunch... There’s so many!
What’s it about? Basically a bunch of miscellaneous short stories of Marvel characters done in a more fun and cartoony setting!
Pros: The stories are fun and kinda cute. They’re nothing groundbreaking but they are fun little cartoony superhero adventures that aren’t quite as serious as the main stuff. The way the characters are written works very well. Despite this being a comic that’s aimed more for kids they’re still true to the characters that we see in other comics with them so I like that. The artwork is fun and cartoony just like the other comics I have read in this line, it is seriously great and possibly the main appeal of this series. This book keeps itself exciting throughout with lots of superhero action. This comic is often humorous, even as an adult.
Cons: So despite her name being in the title this is not as much about Captain Marvel as I thought it would be. In fact, there are several stories in here that don’t even include her. I noticed that this came out just a couple of months before the release of the MCU movie so probably just doing that as a cash grab which I always find shitty but it seems even worse in a comic marketed to kids. She’s still in a lot of it, don’t get me wrong but she’s not the focus. This is a very predictable book. I’m not surprised but personally would have maybe liked some twists. I don’t know if kids will fully understand some of the jokes. There’s a lot of inside jokes about the Marvel universe and references to other things that I don’t think most kids would understand. For example, the comic strips that are done in the style of newspaper comics are fun for sure as an adult but do kids actually read newspaper funnies anymore? I think they’ll confuse a lot of the target demographic. These books recycle material. I noticed some bits of this book were things I had already read in other comics from the Marvel Superhero Adventures line of comics. Hopefully that’s not a trend, I would hate to become bored with a fun series.
Overall: Fun but nothing amazing. I don’t know if I’d honestly recommend this book to anyone since it has that misleading title. That being said it’s still not bad. It is in the end still a book of cartoony superhero adventures, lots of fun action and humorous moments... just not without some publishing related screw-ups from Marvel...

This book is delightful! Despite the cover, Spider-Man is really the star of this book, appearing in all the stories even when Captain Marvel does not, but there are a lot of supers contained in this book. The cartoon style is very reminiscent of Super Hero Squad with big rounded faces and oversized eyes. The stories are silly fun and between each short are a series of old-school comic strip-style cartoons that are based off of old school styles like Snoopy, Family Circus, and Garfield. It's adorable. This whole thing is adorable. I will be pushing it into the hands of all small children who will allow it.
This was really cute! Fun stories for all ages featuring the characters of the Marvel Universe. My favorite comics were those in The Daily Bugle section, as they were parodies of classic newspaper comics like The Far Side, Garfield, Peanuts, Calvin and Hobbes, and even Cathy. Those comics might go a little over a child's head, but will make a parent or older reader laugh. Can't wait to put this in the hands of all my superhero loving library patrons.
Fun graphic novel collecting short comic adventures with Captain Marvel and other characters from the Marvel Universe. Includes comic interludes starring Captain Marvel and other heroes done in the style of classic comic strips like Peanuts, Cathy, Dilbert, etc. There is one story in here that is also in the Spider-Man collection from Marvel Super Hero Adventures.
We noticed some typos, which were disappointing. Likewise, the pages were cut such that some stuff seemed cut off at the bottom. That said these are great stories focusing on Spider-man. I was disappointed that there wasn't more Captain Marvel! Still, fun and we'll worth reading for both adults and children alike.
This is the book that is getting my autistic son to love reading! And I’m enjoying it as well, especially the cute comics between the larger stories. They have newspaper-like comics in various styles with Marvel characters … like Peanuts, Jumble, For Better or Worse, etc. Someone took a lot of care to create these stories, and I am all in!
Like other people have mentioned, this mostly focused on Spider-Man so I'm not sure why it's titled after Captain Marvel. She's in some stories, but completely absent in others. I enjoyed the comic strip parodies and the stories were okay, but definitely could've had more substance.
