Gambit has always been a strong favorite--he's a smooth-taking antihero, a thief from New Orleans with a Cajun accent, and a red-eyed mutant who throws supercharged, explosive cards. I mean... what about all of that isn't BEYOND COOL?!? With a character like that, you need a story that is just as cool... and this one delivers. A heist full of constant backstabbing, tricks, twists and turns that ultimately ends with our favorite Cajun having the upper hand? Who doesn't love a story where the villains lose at their own game? Add into that magic, and then two companion stories that involve zombies, dirty cops, and an assassins/thieves' guild coup and... seriously, what else could you want from a thrilling, super-powered trip to New Orleans? Though my favorite comic was when Gambit was "mentoring" young students to not steal... by teaching them how to steal more efficiently. Antiheroes, amiright? (Also, poor Rogue... I like Gambit, but... moment of weakness my foot! If you love someone, then you're faithful to them, end of story!) But a part from that (which made me a bit angry at his character), this was a pretty darn perfect read. If you're a Gambit fan, I'd definitely recommend it.
I really enjoyed this one, and it's a lot of fun if you are a Gambit fan. The plot was fast paced, incorporating lots of action and some horror elements. My one complaint about this series is the lack of good women characters, except for Rogue who only shows up for a hot minute, all the women characters were petty, conniving, or down right evil, and of course they all wanted Remy. Look I love a manipulative villainess as much as the next person, but you have to have some good to balance it out.
Just finished reading this! What a great book! Amazing storyline, awesome fighting action-packed, beautiful artwork & color! Glad that I got this on full 259 pages compiled. If you're a Gambit fan, this is a truly love! Mystery, twist, horror, magic. You named it! It has it all! Highly recommended! You won't regret!
This is a totally fine book that manages to ignore X-Men continuity and bring Gambit back to the idealized animated-series version of himself. He steals, he makes rash decisions, he flirts, he runs around New Orleans making disposable bad guys explode. This is light filler material, but it's fun and it's consistent. The art is also totally fine.
All the fun elements of a Gambit story - heists, charm, New Orleans, explosions, and an X-Men cameo or two. It doesn't quite gel, maybe because of the demonic or voodoo subplots or the more spy-thriller tone, but it's still a lot of fun!
The overall art work of this run is below average. I only truly appreciate the last few issues collected of this run. I felt the story here is lacking in so many ways...
