About the author

Raman Prinja has been awarded the 2019 American Institute of Physics Science Education Award and is the winner of the 2019 Royal Society Young People's Book Prize.

He is currently a professor of astrophysics at University College, London. He has written several successful general-interest books on astronomy and is keen to bring the subject of astronomy to a wider audience. He was short-listed for the Royal Society Young People Book Prize in 2015. Raman Prinja lives in the U.K.

Tāpat kā citas šīs sērijas grāmatas, izcili skaista un smalki izstrādāta enciklopēdija, kurā ir ļoti daudz, ko apskatīt un pēc tam apspriest. Šis tas četru, piecu gadu vecumā ir pārāk sarežģīti, bet grāmatai nekas nenotiks - tā pagaidīs vēlāku laiku un atjaunotu lielo interesi par kosmosu un planētām. Šobrīd interese dēlam apsīkusi.

Dieses unglaublich schöne Buch habe ich geschenkt bekommen.
Wie durch ein Museum des Universums wird man zu den Wundern unseres Weltalls geführt. Die fantastischen Illustrationen von Chris Wormell und dazu die anschaulichen Texte von Raman Prinja machen Unvorstellbares greifbar.
Ein Buch zum Staunen. Ich bin hin und weg.

Bought this for my older nephew.

Me, before reading this book: "This is going to be fun and the pictures look amazing!"
Me, after reading: "...very interesting and also gorgeous illustrations..." *curls into a ball of existential dread*

That's why I hate space: it's stunning, interesting, beautiful and fascinating...but so, so terrifying.

So terrifying...

Christoffer Wormell is vooral gekend voor zijn illustratie boeken. Voor Het Ruimteboek werkte hij samen met Raman Prinja. Prinja is naast auteur ook astronoom en professor astrofysica.
Mijn aandacht werd getrokken door de prachtige tekeningen die in dit boek staan. Volgens de uitleg in het boek zijn de illustraties digitale gravures.
Die tekeningen zijn zeer groot geplaatst zodat alles duidelijk zichtbaar is. Ze nemen je mee op weg door ons heelal. Een plaats waar we eigenlijk nog weinig van afweten. Wat we wel weten wordt In tekst zeer verstaanbaar uitlegt en de tekeningen zorgen voor de rest. Geen te lange saaie teksten, maar ze bevatten wel genoeg informatie.
Wil je iets bijleren over wat er zich allemaal rond onze aarde bevindt? Dan is dit boek daar ideaal voor.
Wel is aan te raden om toch al iets te weten over de materie anders is het nodig om sommige woorden op te zoeken naar hun effectieve betekenis.
Een ideaal boek om bij het lezen even weg te dromen over reizen tussen de sterren en planeten.

This book has stunning visuals; it really feels like being immersed in a museum. The information is also really interesting. If you don’t know much about space, this book is great; and if you do know a lot about space, the images are wonderful!

Läste den svenska översättningen. Alldeles fantastisk. Prinja förklarar astronomiska termer och skeenden på klarspråk som torde vara begripligt för de flesta. Illustrationerna i trä- och linoleumsnitt är otroliga konstverk. Spring till bibban och låna den här om du eller ditt barn har minsta intresse av rymden.

A beautiful and informative book! I read one subject to my kids every night for a month. Not an easy accomplishment to keep all of us interested. The art work is incredible!

I wish I could rate this book on the illustrations and the facts together. Raman Prinja did an excellent job of making space look even more appealing. (I am a huge space nerd already.) And Chris Wormell is an amazing artist I wish I could steal his art style and ability.

The illustrations are fantastic, and the contribution of the British Museum is remarkable. It is suitable for high school and middle school students, but it also serves as a great introductory book for adults who are completely new to the subject.

This book "Planetarium" will take you on an intergalactic journey thruought Earth's boundaries, across the solar system, throughout the Milky Way, and on toward the most distant galaxies. Within its galleries you will visit and view exhibits that will make it a at home museum experience.

Informative enough to get anyone's attention, learn plentiful. The large Illustrations are truly sensational. They are a work of art, my family and I can't get enough of looking at them.

My 6 year old gave it a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 out of 5 stars.

He learned to read when he was 3 years old, so reading this book together is not difficult. Personally I do recommend this book like a 4 star, given that altho is a wonderful book, if your kiddos are not into reading this book will not get the attention it deserves. Now if your kids are still learning to read and comprehend what they are reading, I suggest the book as a read out loud, mainly to enjoy the large illustrations. Later on as they grow older this book will come in handy. I can see this book being read thruought the years in our home.

Chris Wormell's illustrations are out of this world! Though I enjoy actual photos for the wonders out in space, his renditions are so fantastic, you barely notice you are not looking at the "real" thing. Prinja also shines by giving important details and facts of our universe without rambling on. Keeping things concise but fascinating, will keep students interested. The keys provided on each page are helpful to understanding the charts and pictures. This is a great addition to the "Welcome to the Museum" series and is also a wonderful stand alone book for those who wish to explore the stars.

The Welcome to the Museum series has again produced a fascinating book to introduce youngsters to the unfathomable universe. Inquisitive minds will delve into the gorgeous illustrations and read the no-nonsense text to learn how man's concept and knowledge of the Universe has grown through the centuries.

A very large, oversized book whose very dimensions help one see more clearly the relational largeness of items in the Universe. The illustrations are really good.

I have reviewed several of the "Welcome to the Museum" series books and recommend them highly.

I wouldn't normally count this book on my reading list, as it's a children's book. I got it for my son, but it's a bit past his reading level.

If I'm perfectly honest, I got this for my kid because it's the kind of thing I would have adored as a child.

This is a magnificent book. It's a well-done introduction to astronomy at all scales. It distills down some fairly advanced stuff into understandable chunks. But the illustrations are just heart -stopping. They're seriously amazing. I'm a sucker for books with pictures, and I'm in love with the artwork in this book.

Even though this book doesn't bring much new to someone with an already advanced astronomical basic knowledge, I really enjoyed this book. The writing style is pleasant and clear and is perfect for any reader willing to learn more about outer space.

And aaah, those illustrations… As many have pointed before me, the illustrations are really impeccable. They're a work of art on their own, and more than reason enough to start reading this book immediately.

Šī grāmata ir ideāla, lai kopā ar bērnu pētītu kosmosu. Informācija pasniegta ļoti saprotamā un saistošā veidā, kas veicina bērna interesi par zinātni. Ilustrācijas padara sarežģītas tēmas, piemēram, planētu veidošanos un zvaigžņu dzīves ciklu, viegli saprotamu un ļoti aizraujošu.
Manam bērnam tā kļuva par iemīļotu vakara lasāmvielu katru vasaras vakaru, un tas liecina par to, cik labi grāmata pilda savu uzdevumu – izglītot un izklaidēt vienlaikus.

A gorgeous book. I wish every child had this book, but it's too beautiful to give away my copy. No, no. This is my precious that I'm gonna keep on a display in my book shelf. Although I wonder who chose the visualization of the moon phases to be as if seen from the southern hemisphere, since the book was published in UK and I bought it translated to Czech.

The pictures are absolutely beautiful, but I also enjoyed the reading. I bought the book thinking about the kids, but as I was reading it first, at some point I had to stop myself from commenting some of the interesting bits to the rest of the family.

I have a feeling I will be returning to this book every now and then.

The planetarium is an amazing book with a lot of fascinating information about the history of space and how things in space work,like how black holes are made or exiting information about stars.

I would recommend this book to people who are interested in the history of space. And for people who would like to learn more space.

Fabulous book to read as a stimulus in conjunction to science lessons. Great illustrations and text that is simple for children to understand or to be discussed as a class. Highly recommend. Short and concise.
