Is it a crime to fall in love? If it is, will Morris and Quincy plead "guilty" or "not guilty?"
When Detective Morris Flanery investigates a suspicious apartment fire, he meets one of the tenants, Quincy Maus. Both men feel an immeditate spark ignite between them. Morris is now faced with solving two cases: one is arson and the other is the burning desire in his heart.
While Quincy purports that he knows nothing of the fire, he feels the guilt of harboring information. Revealing it could mean losing his job and his hopes of becoming an amazing photographer. So, he keeps it to himself, while also attempting to woo Morris.
Morris wants to see Quincy and eventually does once the case is dropped. They have the time of their life and real passion ignites. It seems it will last as long as the case stays closed...but it doesn't. It splits wide open, halting their immense love for each other and posing them at odds.
If Quincy gets pinned with part of the blame, what will happen to their bond? Will it dwindle like the rubble in the apartment fire? Or will it spark anew, completely destroying any previous notions about love?

I love detective stories and I found this one to be really good, even though the detective specialized in finding out the truth about suspicious fires. And this particular fire didn’t set well with Detective Morris Flanery once he was told an accelerate was used.
Quincy Maus, a freelance photographer, helped a fellow tenant with starting the fire. This action was agreed upon by all the tenants, so no one was in the building at the time the fire happened which make Detective Flanery even more suspicious.
Morris investigates by interviewing the tenants, at least the ones he could find and Quincy happened to be one of them. There was an instant attraction to each other, but it wasn’t until the fires file was said to be closed. Morris couldn’t help himself wanting to see Quincy again and over time the flames of passion engulf them both.
With the start of a budding relationship between the two main characters, Quincy never confessed to Morris that he was there and involved with the fire. When a witness placed Quincy at the scene the axe falls for Morris and heir new relationship falls apart. This was a serious crime committed and I was intrigued to find out how all this would end. Would Morris and Quincy could get back together, or was there too much damaged done by Quincy for not telling Morris he was involved?
With the romance and angst, I couldn’t put the book down; it held me captive to finish reading it. I was extremely happy to know that it ended in a HEA. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced read copy of this book.
I loved this book. It has love and mystery and a second chance running through the pages. Quincy, an aspiring photographer, lives in a squalid apartment building and has been given money and the warning to get out of the apartment building, right before a fire tears through it. Morris Flanery is the gorgeous detective investigating the fire. Quincy and Flanery hit it off immediately, but Flanery, being the honest cop he is, tries to steer clear of the cute photographer. But, once the case is dropped, Flanery feels comfortable starting a romance with Quincy...but doesn't count on the case being reopened and Quincy being charged as an accessory to the fire. Because of his sense of responsibility, he breaks up with Quincy, although his heart is breaking. Can love conquer all? The characters were extremely well-written. The plot was crazy and made some interesting twists and turns. I read a complimentary Advanced Readers Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased opinion of this book.
This is an exciting book with Quincy who broke the law and Morris who is the man who causes him to be caught. Their love is sweet and fulfills the needs of both as they are both feeling the loneliness that has touched both of their lives. My problem is that there were episodes in the book that raised questions in my mind that weren't answered. One is pictures that Quincy took and gets rid of, but its not mentioned as the significance of them. There is a sweet HEA, but nothing is mentioned what they are going to do to survive and what jobs they are going to pursue. Otherwise an excellent story. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC book.
I liked the characters of Quincy and Morris. They flirted and got together fairly quickly which was ok but the secret between them bothered me a bit, but that was supposed to I am sure. The lovemaking was good but sometimes the lack of prep before sex made me cringe. Sometimes Morris spoke like a man from the 18th century..lol All around a good story, even if things weren't always explained to my satisfaction it didn't take too much from the story being told.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
It's a sweet story. HEA and everything ^^ While reading though, I felt heavy hearted from beginning to end. Not sure if it was just me feeling that way. Nothing wrong with it either way, it doesn't take from the story being heartfelt and sweet. But not even the HEA ending gave me that heart-squeezing, beautiful moment that never fails to make me smile... It really just felt like it was written while sad and I couldn't help but feel sad myself.
This was a wonderful book. I wished it was longer. I liked that both Quincy and Morris didn't want to lose the connection they felt with each other and forgave each other. The last chapter felt a little rushed but overall great book.

This is the first Max Hudson book I've read (or, at least tried to). I only read the first two chapters but I really just wasn't feeling it. I just don't think the writing style jived well with me, but I'll have to try a few more of his books before I throw in the towel on this author.
This book engaged me immediately as the plot is thought-provoking. Hudson deals with the line between about honesty in a relationship quite well. The writing was superb and the main characters rounded out. I’m always happy reading a Max Hudson novel.
