The mangaka leaned heavily into Latin-lover stereotypes but it kinda makes sense since he is a Latin dance champion. Still, I hope that doesn't get distractingly bad. Otherwise, this was a god dang delight.

Consider me concerned by how much I love this series 😅

This premise has so many things I’m weak for! The passionate, younger and more spontaneous character and the older, more strict and serious character. To be fair, they’re both very passionate about dance but it manifests in different behavior for both of them.

I love their relationship, their chemistry and the art is just so beautiful! I bought the rest of the published series over the weekend.

Sugiki and Suzuki's dance lessons are interrupted by Sugiki's annual trip to Blackpool, one of the biggest dance competitions in England where he has persistently placed in the top three. Suzuki flies out to watch the competition and witnesses a side of Sugiki he hasn't seen before, as well as some messy drama with athletes who are former partners, both romantic and professional. This series has a very strong core premise and dynamic but also wanders off into some random tangents which I assume will be trimmed from the upcoming live action film version.

Vol. 1 ★★☆☆☆

While I still don't care about ballroom dancing as much as the mangaka wants me to, this volume is definitely more compelling than the first. It focuses more on the two Shinyas' dynamics and specifically why Sugiki is so enamored with Shinya. One thing I do like about this series is how it subvert tropes by having Shinya be the repressed one who's unable to come to terms with his attraction.

Not as strong as the first volume but still liked it! There were just moments that could've been expounded more versus moving on to the next "scene". Not sure if it's a creative choice and/or intentional to mirror the constant push and pull of the characters. Resulted me feeling like an emotionally constipated reader lol

In this book, you can see their relationship blossoming. Because I read so many thrillers, I'm not always entertained by slow-paced stories. But this one is really great.

Unfortunately not as perfect as the first volume, but still really enjoyable, especially in the second half.

There were some weird blips in the beginning - like that kind of tasteless extra "joke" comic - and I found some of the discussions around the competition a bit confusing and hard to follow. Parts of that get a little more clear later on, when Sugiki's partner tells Suzuki more about his history and the frustrations that led him to almost quit competitive dancing. But the whole thing with Sugiki's rival stealing his partner away, then being all weird and competitively antagonistic about it...honestly, I don't really get it at this point. With the chapter image and the weird vibe between the two of them, I was expecting Sugiki and the Italian rival to be the exes...but I guess that's a little too gay for this BL story?

At least Sugiki isn't particularly struggling with his sexuality; he appears to be pretty comfortable with his attraction to Suzuki, and he has a ton of friends on the LGBTQA+ spectrum (lots of gay dancers, a bisexual college best friend, and he seems at ease with the idea of lesbians). Suzuki is...less so, and while there's some steamy kissing in this volume, it actually doesn't seem to make their relationship progress very much. (I don't really get how you can repeatedly kiss someone and somehow play it off as a joke. I've asked this before about manga but...is this a thing people actually do in real life?)

I like, though, how grownup everything feels. So far they've had several fairly frank discussions about things; Sugiki asks Suzuki flat out, twice, if he has any physical/romantic attraction to men, and while Suzuki is still in the midst of denying that he ever would, he's not flailing into ridiculous panics over it. And he is recognizing, in his own way, that Sugiki is incredibly important to him, and someone whose time he cherishes. Plus, that morning after in the hotel was pretty marvelously handled - so casual and intimate with enough "platonic" elements to keep Suzuki relaxed.

Unfortunately, the trip to England was a bit narratively muddled as a whole - not entirely sure what was going on with that flashback of Sugiki's parents, either - but I enjoyed the bits after they returned and started dancing with their partners again.

There's an interesting little note from the author about how BL editors steer authors away from including any focus on the female characters, which...explains a lot of my frustrations with various series. Inoue gets away with that a bit by working them into the narrative and making them an important part of pushing the guys' stories forward. I like Aki and Yagami, and I hope they'll continue to play fairly prominent roles.

There are some misses in this volume, but a lot still to like, and things that really make it feel unique and special. Intrigued to find out what comes next.

I am convinced that this work will definitely become a masterpiece as a BL manga and a dance manga as well. There’s no other word but amazing for the way of development of story in the work by Inoue sensei. While being a BL manga, it sublimates its dense love story and high-quality dance beyond the frame as a splendid amusement work involved in passionate Latin. I believe it amazing that, whereas it is difficult, in the first place, for two men to be recognized in the world as one and only partner each other, Inoue sensei dared to make an attempt for this difficult setting. Although I have seen a lot of movies in which many Latin dancers were heroes and heroines, this work gives us the impression and excitement that surpass the movies of the directors of Sally Potter and Carlos Saura. The special point of 10 Dance is that readers cannot help praying for the “happy completion” of both the love and dance between two men ahead of the story of the fateful encounter of them through the dance. Unlike movies showing the completed work, its comfortable impatience developed by each number of the manga offers the extremely excellent impression of reading while the readers accompany the work toward the completion. I would really like Inoue sensei
to fully write a full-length portrait of this challenging story toward the end of happy impression.

This Japanese Manga about Ballroom dancing is progressing nicely.

In this volume, they go to a world competition in London and we begin to see some of the politics and other dancers in this volume. There is less dancing between our two leads than last time, but they do spend time together.

They are both beginning to pick up some of the other's moves. The Latin dancer is learning to Waltz and the Waltzer is starting to get some Latin soul in him.

I feel the two are still much to homophobic. That's sort of a downer. I'm ready for them to move past that. There is some clear flirting here and a pretty good kiss happens. It's not really serious though, more like a joke.

The girls are surprised at how well the two dance together. Each of them can follow the other at this point. We get more history of each person. I think this is about to get pretty good, but it's started pretty slow. I love the dancing. It's so romantic. A man who can dance is so sexy. Really, it's just the best.

(BL/sports drama/manga)

I read this volume while listening to the album My Song by Keith Jarrett and co. The song Country kicked up when Suzuki follows Sugiki to the park at night, and Sugiki invites him to dance. The scene is like a dream, romantic and fun and sort of hazy, like it might not really be happening. Country just kind of multiplies those impressions I had. Some might call the scene cheesy. Others might call it cute. But I think this scene sort of transcends the banality the story so far has been struggling to shake off, and it finally meets the heights of all your favourite romance stories. But maybe that is just an effect of the music, like doping for stories. I dunno. Anyway, if you don't know that jazz album, check it out. And if you haven't read 10 DANCE and youre a fan of sports dramas/BL? It's worth a read, especially as there is supposedly a movie adaptation coming out. As for me, I'll keep reading this series as soon as the library buys in more volumes. And maybe one of these days I'll see peen.

I really like the author notes at the end lol.

GOD THE TENSION!!! I can’t handle it. Give me somethingggg oh my god. It’s like rivals to lovers, but they’re both just obsessed with each other in a platonic sense? Give me the romance!!! It better come or I *will* fight. I keep getting teased!! So much push and pull, will they won’t they crap. It’s so juicy and so irritating. I love and hate it.

I absolutely adore the way Suzuki is drawn. It’s so attractive. I love his facial features and the long hair. It’s gorgeous.

I hate that they have the same/ such similar names though, I finally figured out who is who. It was pretty annoying at first.

Something better happen soon! I feel like I’m being edged. Give me something!! I want it to get closer to the 10 dance or something to happen with their relationship already. It’s only the second volume, though so I’m just being impatient.

There were some intensely intimate moments between the leads in volume 2 of this series. The slow buildup to their relationship continues to deepen, but the plot likewise thickens! The men have reached a point in their personal relationship that they don't feel right if they're dancing with anyone else. The author included a playlist in the back of the book so you can listen to the songs they're dancing to, so I recommend pulling those songs up on YouTube as you read along!

Volume 2 introduced several new characters and put the leads in some very awkward positions which kept them apart often. But the author made up for the distance by making their interactions twice as heated as usual. I'm completely hooked on this series and can't wait for more.

We are definitely focusing more on the dance competition side than any romance so far, but I'm okay with that. It's kind of what I enjoy from slashy shows, only this one promises to go all the way. And ballroom dancing IS very good to make the leads get close and learn to appreciate each other as sportsmen, sensual persons and people (since it's their main passion).

I do find myself annoyed with the hard to follow panel/speech-bubble layout. I don't usually have a problem in manga, but I think it is here partly the translation (there are def levels of language that fall away) aaand a drawing and page flow issue. A shame, because it makes certain chapters fall flat.

But the dancing looks nice

Rereading volume 2 reminded me why I fell in love with this series in the first place. The chemistry between Sugiki and Suzuki is electric—there’s this perfect blend of tension, banter, and unspoken understanding that makes every interaction feel charged. The way they push each other’s buttons, both on and off the dance floor, creates this simmering sexual tension that’s impossible to look away from. It’s not just about the dancing (though those scenes are stunning), but the subtle shifts in their dynamic, the way their walls start to come down little by little. It’s addictive, and honestly, even better the second time around.

There is something compelling about this, but I can't quite put my finger on what it is. The two main characters sometimes drive me a little nuts, like they are open mouth kissing and doing other stuff and they're still wondering if they can be more than friends, and the one guy is still denying he might be gay even though he clearly wants to jump the bones of his fellow dancer. All of this can be frustrating, but at the same time I want to know if they ever get their acts together enough to admit they have romantic feelings for each other.

Akogare~

This volume was sweet and warm. Like a mulled wine, the author made sure to leave the reader drunk on the romance blooming between the two male leads. I love how the slow burn leaves me with a sense of tingles and a smile. The additional translations and notes about 10 Dance at the end is enlightening and definitely worth reading. I appreciate the time the artist puts aside to explain the songs in each chapter and other details. Such as the Japanese play on words that can be lost in translation. Onwards to Volume 3!

It’s wholesome and sweet. It’s a slow burn romance and maybe a bit too slow burn for my taste but I’m still enjoying it. I wish the flow was a bit better and we get equal character development but it didn’t hinder my entertainment much. The pacing has improved from the first. I adore the inside look into the world of competitive dancing; it’s interesting. Honestly, the art is so dazzling and extremely expressive. I’m impressed by the art work. 3.8/5

(warning slight spoiler) this is where the romance starts to pick up in my opinion, its the "oh what are these feelings" kinda deal, i think even though its a bit common i really liked a specific scene when Suzuki looks towards the dance floor and really connects with Sugiki, im understating it but it really evoked some emotion in me, and im not one to gasp at manga or books.

(the dance in the park was <3). i still had a bit of trouble with the pacing tho (esp for the # of tournaments that were happening) + im not gonna even touch upon any of the stereotypes portrayed lol

The art is definitely better in this volume (although the snake cover is too weird and cringe). There was some questionable attitudes regarding women (which was plain weird) and homosexuality (which could be explained with Suzuki still trying to figure stuff out). And sometimes they just start having these big conversations which get interrupted and they then forget about them. So not super realistic conversations sometimes. But I’m still intrigued.
