Before Death: A Dead Normal Novel

Rate this book
I am young, in love and dead.
It’s hard to imagine that people or things like me come from somewhere, but just like every superhero or villain, we all have an origin story.
This is mine.
My name is Derek but you can call me Death.

Good!

This is the first book I've read by this author, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. When it started I was a bit on edge, because I am not a big recency fan. I'm more of a present day reader. However, this had a pleasant twist. Grace and Derik had this romance blossoming only for it to be torn apart by death. I won't give the story away, just knows that there is a beautifully twisted romance amongst the pages.

I loved this book!

Written mainly from Derek and Grace’s point of view, with occasional input by Lucian, Before Death is a fantastic read.

I loved the quirky and unique characters, the struggling romance that persists after death, and the humour.

I first met Derek in Dead Normal. This is the story of how he fell in love, died and became Death. It’s also Grace’s account of love, betrayal and heartbreak.

An emotional rollercoaster that has you in tears, from both sadness and laughter.

Book 44 of my Goodreads Challenge

This is the story of Derek before he becomes Death this book had me laughing and almost crying at varying times.

For example :
...she burst out laughing, it was melodic and pig-like at the same time...

So much packed into this lovely package, the cover is gorgeous and drew me right in.

This author has a wonderful gift of bringing great tragedy to a tale but then suddenly throwing you off balance with an unexpected bout of laughter. A real treat, this is why I love these books. Sad and weepy one moment then suddenly shoulders shaking with laughter when it unexpectedly bursts forth.

I was born in the winter of 1778 to poor parents who couldn’t afford another mouth to feed… so I was sold.

I don’t expect sympathy, or for you to play the world’s smallest violin, this is just my story. The story of how one becomes Death.

Very Highly Recommended
