Diana Coulton doesn’t have time for love. She’s got Bad Medicine—the family herb book shop—to take care of, not to mention her chaotic sisters and censorious cat. No matter what Diana might want, romance is on the backburner for this Coulton sister.
Until the night well-meaning Bernadette decides to fix all that. Bernie knows better. Magic used to spur romance has a tendency to go haywire, all witches know that. She’s going to have to stop it.
If she can only remember how.
Before long, the local fire marshal shows up on Diana’s front step. But he’s not there to inspect the shop. He’s been caught in Bernie’s spell, and worse, he doesn’t even believe magic exists. Miles tries to get away from Bad Medicine, but he’s bewitched, and providence is not on his side.
Forces of nature conspire to throw Miles and Diana together, and time is running out to cure the enchantment. If they can’t figure out how to undo the magic hexing them, Diana could lose everything. But if they do, she might lose Miles.

When not writing she can generally be found talking with an author friend about a book, painting something from a book, or tucked between headphones listening to a book. It’s kind of a theme. A great short read. i received a copy of this from the author, who I've had much experience with in the past. Her writing was fun and light-hearted. This tale follows three sisters/witches after one of them drunkenly casts a love spell for her lonely sister, and the repercussions follow.
Within a matter of pages, Melissa Wright had introduced us to a new world and I'll definitely read any more books she adds to it :)
This was a quick and enjoyable read. I received a copy of this book in a giveaway on IG (signed with a box of goodies) from the author. I have been saving it for October, and I am not disappointed.
We follow the Coulton sisters as they try to clean up a magic mess when Bernie, against her better judgement and with the help of alcohol sets a hex loose on Diana and an unsuspecting suitor.
Messing with love spells is a dangerous game which the sisters soon find out may be even harder to reverse or control than they thought.
This was a great book. I don’t read romance but this one had so many other elements to it that it was a good story on top of a good passionate romance. The author did a great job in a very short book of creating this small cozy atmosphere, magical elements and some great characters I could really picture and connect with.
This is a Bad Medicine novella and I really can’t wait for more of the sisters magical escapades.
During a very drunken evening together, Diana’s two sisters, Belle and Bernie Coulborn, cast a spell to find the ideal love match for Diana.
Two days later Fire Marshall Miles Wieland appears at their shop and finds himself unable to leave. Diana begs her sisters to reverse their spell as disaster follows disaster, all preventing Miles leaving the premises. Unfortunately the two sisters can’t remember the original spell.
I didn't know what to expect when I downloaded Blood and Brute, but it was a freebie (at the time), so thought, I'll give it a try. What I discovered was a light-hearted and amusing tale which kept me chuckling during a rainy evening.
