JJ and I read this book together, and we enjoyed the thick creamy pages, vintage watercolor illustrations and the struggles of a little girl finding friendship, identity and home in a blend of Chinese, American, English, and German cultures.
The story lacked some depth (spiritually), but its scope and visual/linguistic descriptions were great.
A children's book an 8 year old grand daughter might enjoy, telling a story of a little American girl living in China during turbulent times between WW1 and WW2. Good cultural insight and missionary perspective.
