Caroline Lang was born in a time where women were defined clearly and given little freedom. Her deafness was a hurdle she had to overcome from birth in a society that equated a physical disability with a lack of intelligence.
She dedicated her life to raising her children and her art, resigned to never finding the sort of love written about in books.
Until the day her son introduces her to his fellow Marine, William Woodring. Initially unwilling to explore her attraction due to their age difference, the steady man takes her over-thinking off the table and shows her that he doesn’t give a single damn about ages or her inability to hear.
The is the third book in the four-book "Quiet" series and you're going to love Caroline. Another hot, emotional read by Always the Good Girl, Shayne McClendon.

I love how this story has evolved. These two are made for each other, but have to go through a lot before they get their HEA. A great story in this series.
I’m a little disappointed by this book. I really liked the plot since the beginning and there are so many good ideas in. But I’m still disappointed that Shayne McClendon missed so many occasions to deepen them. I find her narration style a little light. So i didn’t embrace it.
I didn’t mind that the narration began at the birth of Caroline : it helps fixes all her background. But even if I like slow romance, I’m not a fan of romance that slow!
A beautiful story of woman’s life and her path to finally finding love
This is the third book in a really wonderful series. All the women in these books are extraordinary but Caroline is very special. She is a deaf woman who came from a wealthy family in a time when deafness was seen as a mental disability as well as a physical one.
Thrust into an unwanted marriage at age 17, Caroline endured her husband as she had endured the rest of the people she had been exposed to. As her reward she got two much loved children. Her son Nate and his younger deaf sister Noel.
This story follows the whole arc of Caroline’s life, from childhood, right up until just after the previous books in the series. We see the secrets she always hid, the woman under the graciousness and kindness. We see a strong and determined woman, who beat the odds to become a successful business woman and to have children who made her proud.
This is a beautifully written story about who initially seemed to be a supporting character from previous books, but who in fact turned out to be the root from which the rest of the story springs.
It handles the subject of deafness with the harsh realities of dealing disability from birth in an age without support and goes on to tackle how aging makes a woman feel about herself and her body.
This is a fantastic series, but this is the best book by far.
I must admit, I’m a little let down by this series now. Nate and Zoe’s story was good, Noel and Rick’s story made me angry, and now Caroline and Bill’s story left me wanting more. I feel as though we relive the same periods in time over and over from slightly different perspectives for at least half of the book before we start to get anywhere new in each book. Caroline’s story was interesting enough, but she was turned into a watered down version of Zoe, which I didn’t really like. Bill, on the other hand, was obviously a sad and confused man who didn’t know how to properly show his love for Caroline, so he did his best and learned along the way. He is the sole person in this book who saved it from a 2⭐️ rating for me. I wish that we’d have more of him and less of everything and everyone ELSE in this book.
It's not often you read a book that connects you to a character as well as Extra Quiet's Caroline connected to me. Caroline is me, Caroline is all women, mothers, doing it on their own the best way they know how. Words cannot express how much this incredible book means to me, I just simple lack the writing skills of Ms McClendon. (If she wrote my resume`, she'd make potential employers cry with the beauty of my job skills.) Please do yourself a favor, come on, spoil yourself for once and read this book, then gift it your best friend, sister, crazy auntie and make sure your mom reads this. All the women who have done it all and endured all the things life throws at them, need this.
Strong but yet vulnerable, she was Isolated by a family who didn’t want her based on her inability to hear. Because of her past encounters with men beginning in childhood and into a marriage she didn't want, Caroline had no clue how to navigate a relationship. Add to the problem, William, who has no idea how to be in a relationship either. I was cheering for them, because they both deserved to be happy.
Plus we get Caroline‘s unique view on all the action that happened in Quiet and Kilted and Crazy Quiet. Yes "unique", as in different from what was in the other books that came before.
This wasn’t exactly what I expected to read. I figured a book for Caroline would be more then a look thru the past book from her point of view. Only in the last few chapters did it feel like anything new was said. That being said I did enjoy parts of the book from her perspective and learning about her relationship with William. Her family and her work were also a big part of her book and POV. Though I really found this book lacking the electricity and excitement from the others in the series, I still enjoyed it. It did have some hot scenes. Some good laughs and some more backstory to her and her family. 3.5/5
I enjoyed this instalment of the quiet series. The progression of Caroline from having to defend herself at a young age to overcoming the preconceived notions of deafness is extremely well written. You do wish her and William had taken the plunge a bit earlier to have more enjoyable time together. My only criticism is the same as book 2 and that is the chunk of time dedicated to the Delkin family is confusing as I have not read the series they are clearly from and so have no real ideas of their issues and struggles but it is written like you do know.
Caroline is a strong woman who fought for everything she had. A single mom to two kids. Her being deaf and having Noel a deaf daughter does nothing to stop her. She loves fully and gets hurt just as bad. She never knew what love was till William. William kept leaving her and she thought it was because of her. They learn as they go. They have many things in the way for them but one thing is for sure she wants William and has to figure out a way for him to see it and know it. They have a past but now ready to become and item. This is a great book in the series.
Caroline may be known as the quiet, classy matriarch of the family but she hasn't always been that way. Life taught her early that the only one you can rely on is yourself. She's done a great job so far. Add a man that knows as much about being the quiet watcher and you've got yourself a steamy love affair too.
Another fabulous installment to the Quiet series. This one will throw you for a loop.
This is book 3 in the Quiet series. Man this series keeps getting better and better. I couldn't put this book down. Caroline Lang is a kid butt mom and no one will mess with her. Her life wasn't great. Born deaf she had tons of challenges but she over came all pf them especially for her kids. This is a stand alone but really should read the first 2. I love this series and love that we get to see how Nate and Noel grew up with such a strong and wonderful mother.
It's frustrating when a series starts off with such potential, but each book becomes tedious to read. Caroline and Bill's story was in large part a rehashing of parts of the first 2 books from a different, but unfortunately uninteresting POV. I really likes Book 1, was disappointed in book 2, but book 3 was just too much of the same for too long. I have book 4 and I hope Mandy's book rekindles the spark from book 1
I am really enjoying this series. I love when the main characters have a good story/history and Caroline certainly has. I was excited to read how she had become the woman she has and how she helped raise such a great family. There was a a lot of time focused on her past, which was relevant to see how she became who she now is, but I would have liked it to have focused more on her happy ending and more romance with her and William, but it was still enjoyable.
Meet the head of the Langs. Caroline tells her tail and with the twists and turns eventually finds love outside her children. Beautifully written and composed, you will enjoy this 3rd installment in the Quiet series by Shayne. Absolutely love the way this woman writes and the depth and soul she pits in to each book she writes. ❤
This is one of my favourite series this year, and this book is my favourite in it so far. I don’t often cry when I read; this book brought me to tears. There are also plenty of laughs, and the author has really upped the ante with the steamy content. A fantastic, brilliant, enjoyable read.
I loved Caroline’s story! Seeing how she raised her children and built her career was great. She is truly a bada$$! I loved William from the start and enjoyed watching them navigate their relationship. This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it won’t be the last.
Caroline Lang is an incredible women and seeing like bits of who she is in the last two books has been good. This character really makes a story great and it was great being able to finally read her story and see how her and Bill finally make it work after reading about their connection in Noel story.
I read this book years ago when it was first put on ... and enjoyed Carolines story.
I don't recall the adoption of the Callie and found it odd she wasn't mentioned in The other books since she was so closed w Mandy.
I also feel that we are so overly teased about Hollows soon to be but never out book that this was to just make us as a reader feel better bc we got more detail as of his life.
I'm loving this series about these strong women who are deaf but can stand on their own two feet. Reading Caroline's story I can see where Noel's kick-butt style came from. She doesn't let those that find her "less than" walk all over her, and she manages to get her payback. I did feel bad for her and how her last relationship played out, and I loved her strength and grace.
I loved Caroline's story. To go through all she did to stay so loving and caring was wonderful. If her children only realized how strong she was they would be shocked. To see her relationship with William progress over the years was great but at the same time exasperating . But in the end it worked. Loved it.
It amazes me how a book can hold so many awe inspiring stories about so many issues in life like this one and yet be so steamy hot like this one. I highly recommend not only this book but the entire series
Amazing book. Beautifully written with some much empathy and understanding. Page turner with all the feels. A very enjoyable series and to be highly recommended.
Extra Quiet is book 3 in The Quiet series by Shayne McClendon. I really love this series and so far this is my favorite of the books. Caroline being deaf and her strength with all she goes through will grip your heart. I highly recommend this book and this series.
Another great book by the amazing Shayne McClendon...her books are crazy good from page one!!! This is book 3 in the Quiet series and might be my favorite but they are all perfection!!! I loved Caroline's story and it brought so many details together for me from book 1 & 2. Excellent 10STARS!!!
Strong, loving intelligent woman, overcoming her deafness, thriving in a hostile less than loving family. Business wonan, devoted mother. Meets younger, sexy military man, and must learn to trust in order to live, and love fully. Dark, bdsm, adult situations. Recommended adult.
If you see the word determined in the dictionary , a picture of Caroline should be with it! This is a great story that gives you so many feels that you can’t put it down. This is my favorite book in the series, yet they are all amazing. This is a must read!!

Seriously the slowest, sexiest, romantic burn in history! Once I really got started in the book I couldn't put it down. I love Caroline and William. This book may have even been better than book 1 and 2.
Empathetic and chilling, life in a deaf world is rendered clearly. This author has taken her time in portraying the difficulty and the triumphs of the characters, and her knowledge of the struggles faced. A moving series.
Shayne McClendon is at the top of her game. Extra Quiet, the third book in the Quiet Series, is proof positive of her talent, care for the characters she writes, and insight into what her readers most want to read.
