After a lifetime spent hating the cause, loving a Jacobite is out of the question for Henrietta Brody. But with Scotland ready for battle her only chance for survival is to journey with her enemy – the dangerously handsome Lord Simon Tremain.
His protection awakens a forbidden desire in Henrietta. But, torn between her past and her future, the Jacobite and the man, reason and passion, she must fight to resist this traitor's touch.
I enjoyed this story. It is set during the 1745/46 Jacobite rebellion encompassing the battles of Prestonpans, Falkirk and finally Culloden. The historical background was accurate and informative without being heavy and taking over. There are two themes running through the plot, Henrietta's flight from her evil relative and Simon's involvement in the Jacobean cause. If I have any criticism it would say that it took a little too long for love to transcend all, with Henrietta being the worst offender. The plot moved at a good pace but could have been tied up sooner. Never-the-less, I am happy to award 5 stars.
Interesting historical romance with issues stemming from the English Civil War, Henrietta Brody lost both her parents to this war. Now when she has to flee her home in London to go to her uncle in Scotland she encounters Simon Tremain who is about to join Bonnie Prince Charlie and his rebellion, she finds it difficult to think of a relationship with someone involved in this. Things proceed predictablly.
What could I say? The ending was too much, too sweet and absolutely annoying. I know HEA in romance books is a must, but I don't like that way~ We need to face reality. The heroine is an annoying lady, she said she can't be with him but still want him. I think she is the real traitor.
This had a very unusual premise and for once you have a hero who probably stands to lose everything. Lord Simon supports the Jacobite cause. On the other hand after her parents death, Henrietta is violently opposed to it. Fleeing from a murdering relative bent on taking her property, she dresses as a boy on horseback. Simon is clueless when he meets her and journeys with her for ten days thinking him to be a lad. That's the funny part of the story. It's got nice funny bits and the chemistry is well done. The primary conflict being the Jacobite cause makes it unusual reading.
