One group of psychopathic vampires competing with a group of psychopathic witches, he mused darkly. What could go wrong? - Elias
Naomi Feldman has never understood the strange energy that hums beneath her senses. A curator in a museum, she is caught off guard one day, when a mysterious artefact seems to call out to her. When the artefact is later stolen and Naomi is almost abducted, Alaric, a vampire, steps in to save her.
Naomi comes to learn that she is a Descendant from one of the First Witches. Alaric works for the Alliance - an organisation where vampires and witches have come together to stop the Order (supremacist witches) and the Blood Order (supremacist vampires) from eradicating witches, vampires and humans. The artefact from the museum, known as The Incantation Stone, contains a powerful spell capable of unleashing a plague which could wipe out the vampire and human population. The Stone can only be activated or destroyed by a pure blood witch such as Naomi.
While the first two books are about Naomi and Alaric’s struggle to destroy the Stone and face those intent on killing Naomi rather than see her allied with the Alliance, book 3 concentrates on the vampire Elias’ mission to protect another Descendant named Bianca Ibano, who is being hunted by the Blood Order.
The strength in the trilogy rests in the exceptional world building that the author has created which effortlessly brings the characters and plot to life. The protagonists were appealing and relatable allowing the reader to instantly connect with them. The female leads were strong and resilient, ready to face their challenges head on rather than be mollycoddled.
The Shadow Descendants trilogy is an engaging easy read, with well rounded characters that will appeal to fans of vampires, witches, warring factions and paranormal romance.
I received an advanced free audible copy of the Shadow Descendants trilogy which was narrated by Price Walden and I am voluntarily reviewing it. I felt that the narrator gave a smooth and concise delivery which made it easy to differentiate between characters. His pronunciation of the incantations was particularly impressive. Recommended for fans of A Discovery of Witches.
The Descendants: Books One to Three was a great set of books by L.D. Hall. This boxed set consists of; Shadow Descendant, Marked Descendant and Dark Descendant. These books follow Naomi, Alaric, Bianca and Elias. Naomi has always had an energy that humid beneath her senses. In book two she and Alaric must go on the run. In book three Bianca goes on the run and she falls in love with Elias. I enjoyed reading this series and I can't wait to read more by L.D. Hall.
Listened to these books on Audible. Book 1 was my favorite! Witches and Vampires teaming up was a great story line! It looses a star for me because the love story wasn’t girly enough for me, too quick and didn’t feel right to me. But once the couple(s) we’re established I loved the passion and protectiveness! The narrator read a bit faster than some other audiobooks I’ve listened to but it helped make the stories not drag out so much!
I have to say that I loved the characters and their interaction. I loved the fact that there were strong female characters that finally won the men they loved and that those men protected them with everything they had.
The stories in all three books were imaginative and captivating. The backstories that allow you to understand why they are who they are are well told. The new relationships they form in order to fight for what they believe in has you cheering them on.
The Descendants Complete Series: Books 1, 1.5, 2, 3
This was an excellent series full of action, some comedy and also romance, of course. All of the stories were intriguing and full of passion and suspense. The author really has a way with words and can trap you into the story, feeling like you are a part of the story. I would recommend this series to all supernatural book lovers!
I received a free copy for an honest review. I could see the influences from A Discovery of Witches from the first couple of chapters. I fell in love with Alaric and Naomi and then again with Elias and Bianca. I was also grateful for more insight into Casimir and Fiona's relationship. This series is sure to keep you hooked and on your toes.
OMG loved the all the characters and their stories. Couldn't put the book down, just had to see what happened next for all of them. If you love a good paranormal romance/suspense these are the books for you. Can't wait to see if there are more books to finish off the series. I received this book for free for an honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series! Loved each of the characters and how it all flowed. I only ended up giving it four stars because of the typos. There were not a lot, I must say, but it still irritates me to see it... Very distracting.
Witches and Vampires join together to battle against evil. Good characters, magic, good plot, adventure, action and some romance. I recommend this series.
The overall story line was good but the constant bickering between the main love interest got annoying pretty quickly. Probably won't read it again but overall not a bad read.
