While gold prospecting in remote jungle in 2011, Jason Pednault was attacked by local tribesmen. He was beaten, strangled and thrown off a 150-foot cliff into raging rapids. His unknown assailants believed they’d committed the perfect murder, again. But through a combination of mysterious intervention and extreme determination, Jason lived to tell his tale.
Exciting, dark, magical, comic and optimistic, Falling to Fly is the true story of how a man from small-town Arkansas ended up in the Amazon rainforest, how he survived the brutal attempt on his life, and how that experience became the catalyst for his most incredible adventure yet.
Wow! I ended up staying up most of the night reading this as I could not put it down. What a story! Matheu DeSilva is a storyteller extraordinaire!! I sometimes struggle with the vast amount of descriptions authors put in their storylines, which can lead to a jagged experience as my left brain is trying to sort out the scene vs my right brain wanting to get on with the emotional timeline. This book combines both of those beautifully - like a double helix, story and environment weave in and out, including the reader in an action/adventure story well worth a sleepless night or two! When I first opened the book in my kindle and saw "gold prospector" I had a visceral reaction and recoiled. By the end of the book I felt I had learned so very much about not only things that drive us unconsciously, but also I felt for the first time I had a true version of what is happening to indigenous peoples and their worlds. I am so grateful to Jason for taking his story public, and giving us hope that there not only is a better way to live, but that we can be change agents to bring that about. The current despair of "what can one person do" is balanced by the idea of permaculture - if we each took the land we live upon and treated it as a sacred temple, working with nature to restore vitality and balance, the world would change very quickly. If you are looking for an amazing action/adventure story with an archetypal hero's journey transformation, this is it. Buy it, read it, share it, rave about it, and get involved!! Blessings to Jason and Matheu for giving us this desperately needed message.
A intriguing, scary, wonderful story . I could feel the intensity, and it resonated with me at a very gut/ heart level. I recommend the book, and you judge for yourself if you hear the call.
A great reminder that real life can be more amazing than fiction, Jason's life journey, shared with sincerity, candour and a healthy pinch of humour is a powerful reminder of the great web of life in which we are all embedded. Humans, animals, plants are all deeply and continuously connected and the nature of that connection depends largely on the sense of responsibility and love that we are able to take upon us. This true page-turner can be read as a spiritual journey of becoming, as an amazing Indiana Jones-lie adventure and also as a moral story about what we could value more in life: the environment which keeps us alive with grace, the relationships which feed us. This book is also a great reminder of the fact that light comes with darkness and the other way around, but beyond this ambiguity lies a choice, which is as much personal as it can be collective.
Wow! What an amazing read! I had to discipline myself to read it slowly and savor the wisdom and potent story from Mr. Pednault's very adventurous and at times very dangerous life. He went through quite a lot of intense experiences in his life and through the help of De Silva he has been able to share his story of his upbringing, traumatic experiences, mystic encounters and eventually a journey into shamanic traditions from the amazonian jungle that provided deep healing full of revelations and insight on how to create a better life. I don't want to give any spoilers but if you like adventure stories with a touch of mysticism and full of wisdom then this is definitely a book for you.
This story has depth and wonder on every page. The book is difficult to put down because the story is so gripping. The adventure is one to be enjoyed and the topics the story explores are provocative in very important ways. I highly recommend this book as a fascinating read.
I loved this book. It's a must read. It allowed me to look back on my own journey. I experienced life through this mans story. I traveled to another country to experience his quest for something more. I had to take my time with this detailed book but at the same time I couldn't put it down. The visions and stories captured his experience beautifully. Are you living your life to the fullest? Is a great question. Thank you Jason for sharing your truth with the world.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I’d say I couldn’t put it down but I had to at certain parts. I’d set it down and come back to it an hour later and continue on. I’m a wimp when it comes to suspense/action. I liked reading about Jason's transformation and hearIng more about the ways of the indigenous peoples. There’s magic in the Amazon. Gracias 🙏
Complex, fast-moving, and fascinating story of someone who never fit in finally realizing his own impact on the world around him. A spiritual coming of age story.
Having had the pleasure of meeting Jason and hearing some of his story first-hand, I was keen to read the full account of his epic journey. I thoroughly enjoyed this page-turner which has me contemplating a return to the Amazon Jungle. Well done Matheu and Jason - a great read!
The story and the adventures of Jason in Ecuador were fascinating and enlightening. What's happening to the Rain Forest and the people who live there was a good eye opener for me. I was also intrigued by the psycho-tropic drug therapies. I would have given this book 5 stars if the main character had been more believable to me. Geeky was fine, but his wimpy physical physique didn't cut it for me considering the things he had to do to survive. He should at least have had some muscle, especially by the end of the book. The only other bothersome issue for me was the bad editing job. There were simply too many words left out of sentences. Those have a tendency to pop out at me and I lose focus on the story.
