I've said it many times, I'm not a fan of novellas. However, I can't help but give this collection of novellas five stars.

There are three stories in this book, each having to do with sisters, and each are characters from other Wingate books. Each character is in some way connected to Sandy's Shell Shop. Very few of them know each other from one book to the other.

The first story, The Seaglass Sisters, is about Sandy herself, and her sister who lives in Michigan. The sister is concerned about Sandy's health and the need to keep her shop going. The hurricanes on the Outer Banks are a problem for merchants and residents. Sandy's shop has been hard hit several times, and it's causing Sandy to have to sell family owned property to keep it afloat. But there's something magical about the Outer Banks, and this shop in particular.

The Tidewater Sisters is the second. Tandi, the main character in The Prayer Box, lives in the same area as Sandy's shop. Tandi has a sister she's always been at odds with since their teen years. She recently became aware that what her sister told her about their grandparents selling their farm years ago had been a lie. Her sister had been forging documents in order to earn rent money from local farmers on the property since she was a teenager. Fury fueled her several hour drive to where her sister lives near their grandparents property. Stopping by the farm she sees someone from her childhood she was told was dead. The sight of him caused her to faint, but the reunion was sweet.

The third short story, The Sandcastle Sister, is about Jen from The Story Keeper. She escaped from a cult years ago, leaving her family still in this cult except the sister she helped to escape not long ago. This sister recently found out they have an uncle, and another surprise relative. The story is about their visit to the person they didn't know existed.

All very good stories, and I love the fact that they were about characters from three different books I've read. I'm not sure that anybody reading these stories, who hasn't read the three previous books, would understand entirely what's going on. But the reading of them is still enjoyable!

Lisa Wingate is such a talented writer! This collection of three stories featuring sisters features some characters from her earlier novels, but each of them can also stand alone. Heart-pounding action, the tension and pull of relationship that defines sisterhood, learning to let go of the past and embrace the future - all are part of this trilogy.

Enjoyed these novellas and how they all had a connection with Hatteras Island on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, one of my favorite places.

Lisa Wingate's books are always filled with bits of wisdom. I keep a journal of things that I find are profound in books that I read and I have pages of Lisa Wingate quotes. This book fills in between The Prayer Box, The Story Keeper, and The Sea Keeper's Daughters which were so very interesting. I can't believe I missed these when they were first published in 2013, '14 & '15. I haven't found a book of hers that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. These novellas take place on the Outer Banks of North Carolina and make me want to visit there and walk the beaches and go to Sandy's Seashell Shop. Lisa's books are never preachy but show people walking through life with their faith as natural as breathing. Read her books! You will enjoy them immensely! ❤️

Lisa Wingate gives you 3 separate stories of sisters all set in the low country or marshes of the Carolinas. Perfect for a quick read as the reader becomes invested in the lives of these women.

Big disappointment, i feel like it was a school assignment rushed through by a talented writer, but characters and their stories were weak and underdeveloped.

Just an okay read. Three stories within the book were all so similar and predictable. Guess I was hoping for something with a little more depth.

Incredibly boring. Only got through the first story then halfway through the second before I decided I don’t have time for this drivel.

SISTERS
3 novellas in the Carolina Chronicles series

The Sea Glass Sisters
The more time that passes before it happens, the better. ~First line

This story captured me quickly. The opening scene is filled with urgency and there is an electricity in the air during the 911 call and search for Emily. Elizabeth Gallagher is an interesting character and easy to sympathize with. And her mother, Sharon, and Aunt Sandy add so much to the story. The East Coast setting in North Carolina, is a character on its own. The hurricane gives an ominous feel rather than a sunny beach atmosphere. I experienced so many emotions and was fully immersed in the Outer Banks sea air, and enjoyed getting to know these characters, Sandy’s Sea Shell Shop, and the family ties and dynamics. A stirring story sharing the importance of family and faith while we weather life’s storms.

Every decision you make in life has benefits and consequences. Sometimes you just have to go on faith, and even that comes at a price. It means you have to give up the idea that you’re the one in charge of the universe. ~Excerpt from The Sea Glass Sisters

The Tidewater Sisters
He comes in summer, when the air is still and the bullfrogs sing in the sedges and the nightjars wail their quick, haunting calls: Chuck Will’s widow, Chuck Will’s widow... ~First line

This is another Lisa Wingate hit! Tandi Jo was first introduced in The Sea Glass Sisters and The Prayer Box and captured my heart. Tandi returns to the Tidewater in North Carolina, a place that holds difficult memories. I sympathize with her when she gets tangled in a lawsuit and had strong emotions toward her sister Gina as well. Tandi’s relationship with her sister is more than strained, and so much is revealed about their past. A powerful and highly emotional read with a sweet ending.

I think of an old sermon my grandfather quoted from time to time—something about not looking back when you’re plowing a field, but instead finding a mark in the distance and focusing on that. Otherwise, the rows won’t come out straight. ~Excerpt from The Tidewater Sisters

The Sandcastle Sister
“Paris,” he says, and his blue eyes slant my way, accompanied by a contemplative smile as a few almost-black curls whisk his forehead. ~First line

As with each of the novellas, I swiftly became absorbed by these sisters and their stories. Jen carries a lot of baggage, and fears making the same bad decisions the women in her family have made—giving up her self for a lackluster life. She also doesn’t want that for her sister, Lily Clarette. Secrets are revealed and lives are changed.

Everything you want waits on the other side of fear. ~Excerpt from The Sandcastle Sister

Audio Narration:
Sybil Johnson narrates The Sea Glass Sisters. She has a softness to her voice that is both comforting and articulate. Her character changes are clear and believable.

Xe Sands narrates The Tidewater Sisters. Her inflection has a different kind of charm, with a wispy, almost lazy drawl. Her character changes are distinctive and believable, even a male voice.

Abby Craden narrates The Sandcastle Sister. This narrator has a slight gravel to her voice. She doesn’t have the southern inflection I’d expected, and over-does it a bit with Lily Clarette’s dialogue, which was distracting at times.

Audio Production Quality: The production quality of this audiobook is clear, without any distracting sounds or skips.

Overall: Sisters is a lovely collection of three novellas that touch on the joys and trials of sisterhood. I’ve read all the books and novellas in the Carolina Chronicles series and have grown to love each of these sisters!

Some popular books are definitely geared towards a female audience. I guess that makes sense when one considers the reading public. I was afraid that would be the case with this book and that, even though I have loved other things by this author, this one would disappoint me. I needn't have worried. Even though women will probably be more attracted to this than men, the three novellas which comprise this omnibus are well written and worth your time.

The first one, "The Sea Gate Sisters" was my favorite. Elizabeth Gallagher joins her mother on a road trip to try to convince her aging aunt to give up running the store she loves so that she can receive the care they feel she needs. During the trip, they learn a lot about themselves, about each other, and about what family can mean.

In "The Tidewater Sisters" a woman's sister takes legal action against her. She plans to set the record straight and solve the problem. In the process, she discovers many long kept family secrets and also learns a lot about what being a sister can mean.

Parts of this novella felt a little contrived to me, but strong and believable characters saved the day.

I didn't especially like the third story, "The Sandcastle Sisters" which explores a woman's feelings about her impending marriage, though the ideas explored here are intriguing.

I noticed that this book is classified as "religious fiction." While prayer is definitely an important part of the character's lives, they never preach. In fact, that gave added dimension to the stories.

My research shows me that these were originally published separately. They work well together and the three women who narrate the audio edition do a splendid job.

A trio of connected novellas, all with ties to the North Carolina Outer Banks.

The first, The Sea Glass Sisters, featured Sandy as a minor character in The Prayer Box, so I especially enjoyed reading her back story in the novella. I found the family drama about owning and selling the farm a little distracting, especially as it brought up a minor character in Elizabeth’s uncle who virtually disappeared from the rest of the story. However, thinking back, he was likely a vehicle for bringing the sisters together.

I also liked the fact that the story introduced the reader to Iola Ann Poole, the late mysterious owner of the Benoit House.

From the book’s dedication, I wondered if this story was a bit of a memoir for the author, as she says it is for her mother and aunt.

Recommend as this story can stand alone as solo piece without The Prayer Box.

As for the second story, the Tidewater Sisters story directly follows The Prayer Box, so it was a good way to keep a story that I enjoyed going a little longer. The author has created a sympathetic character in Tandi Jo who has serious doubts about being good enough for her fiancé Paul. She also struggles with the challenges of her childhood with her troubled mother.

This story really needs for the reader to be familiar with the conflicts in The Prayer Box so I don't recommend it as a standalone.

The third story, Sandcastle Sister is almost overwhelming in the number of details in the story. It doesn’t fit as nicely into the trio of stories, either. The missing sister’s location in the Outer Banks, their detour to the Benoit House Museum and the presence of Sandy of the seashell shop seems a bit forced into the story to make it fit with the others. However, it is a pleasant short story with engaging characters and a bit of mystery with missing mother and aunt/sister to make this piece standalone well.

Something else I appreciated in Lisa Wingate’s stories is the Christian element. She weaves faith of God into stories in an organic way. The characters are very matter of fact about God’s presence in their lives without evangelizing or being preachy.

This volume is good. clean reading for those familiar with the associated novels.

Sisters by Lisa Wingate is a collection of three novellas from the Carolina Heirlooms series, and my experience with each story varied.

The first novella, The Seaglass Sisters, was the most confusing for me, mainly because I didn’t have much background going in. While it was a good story, I felt a bit disconnected as I tried to piece everything together.

The second novella, The Tidewater Sisters, made more sense, especially since it builds off Tandi’s story. I felt more grounded in the characters and the direction of the plot, which made it more enjoyable.

The final novella, The Sandcastle Sisters, was my favorite. After finishing The Story Keeper, I was left with unanswered questions, particularly about Jennia and Evan, and that lack of closure made it hard for me to fully embrace the novel. This story finally provided the resolution I was hoping for, while also expanding on Jennia’s relationship with her mother and introducing her half-sister.

I appreciated the closure Sisters offered, as it addressed the lingering questions that had held me back from fully enjoying The Story Keeper.

Sisters is a collection of 3 novellas in the Carolina Heirlooms series:
0.5 The Sea Glass Sisters - Prequel to the series
1.5 The Tidewater Sisters - Sequel to The Prayer Box
2.5 The Sandcastle Sister - Sequel to The Story Keeper

I read The Prayer Box (Book 1) first and really enjoyed the book. When I looked up Book 2, I realized there were novellas, a prequel and two follow-up stories for the first two full books. So, I started from the very beginning with 0.5 the prequel, then read 1.5, (of course, I read Book 2 - The Story Keeper) and finished with 2.5.

This inspirational series is very good. There is romance, but also personal growth of the main characters, healing from difficult childhoods, and handling relationships with family and friends. The history that is woven into the books is very interesting and entertaining. I will definitely read more books by Lisa Wingate.

The third story in the book is the best one!

I didn’t really care for the first story, about Sharon and Sandy. It broke my never will I read a book with this.... it’s a spoiler so I won’t tell what it is.

The second story is about Tandi and Gina. I liked the story but the author left a lot of questions unanswered a d I keep hoping that we will cross paths with the characters.

The third story is about Jen and Lily. I love the story, again the story ends pretty open and hopefully in later books we will check in with them again.

This collection of 3 different stories about sisters is a fast read, entertaining, and often uplifting. I love Lisa Wingate’s writing style. Here’s an example: “The taproot holding my aunt to this place reaches straight through the salty soil and all the way to the floor of the ocean.” Such a powerful way to describe an attachment!

Sometimes a particular sentence really hits me in my heart, such as, “There’s something magical about that time when your babies are small, when you’re the center of their world, the person they love the most.” So true.

This book was super short. I didn't realize it was just a novella before the actual novel of Tidewater Sisters. Good book, as always with Lisa Wingate books, pieces of nuggets of truth tucked inside. I love highlighting them and reading them later. Even when you forget certain things about the books, you have these and it pulls you back. Love her books. And I didn't realize that I still have so many left by her on my to read list. I better get busy.

I was so happy to get this book with the three novellas that revealed some of the story between the stories that I have enjoyed by Lisa Wingate. I love that they all had sister related themes, and not picture perfect sister relationships. Some that are very broken, and some that are discovered and others that needed new life breathed into them. But all of them about being real, putting the past in the past and moving forward with courage and faith as sisters!

This is a book of three novellas. I didn't know that when I picked it up to read. The stories are all very good and one story does bleed into another, a bit. But I like a book. A big ole story told in a lot of pages. These three stories are short and sweet and nice, but not able to give me the big character development and depth of plot. The three stories all involve sisters, sometimes at odds with each other.

These 3 novellas- taking place before and after The Prayer Jars and after The Story Teller- make the stories that much better. I don’t always read novellas, but I am so glad I bought this book and did. They tie up loose ends I wanted tied up, and bring in some other details that just make for a good story. Excited to move onto The Seakeeper’s Daughters now! Especially since it is so clear how the books tie together as a series now.

I agree with other reviews that these stories felt somewhat rushed, particularly towards the end of them. However, having read Wingates Carolina Heirloom Series prior to this book, I loved how she reintroduced past characters and added on to their storylines from those books. If you haven’t read the 3 part Carolina Heirloom series before this book it will probably be harder to understand/appreciate the short stories. She does a fantastic job intertwining storylines and characters.

I love some of Lisa's other books- especially "Before we were yours"...but this one fell a bit short for me. In her defense, I am not a huge fan of novellas- this was that- 3 novellas in one book. Some of them "picked up" on where her other novels left off...some were better than others- just too brief, encapsulated, and as I would get into one, it would end...nothing wrong with her writing (ever) but these just didn't draw me in like her novels do.

This was a book of 3 short novellas, all telling a story of sisters. It was a quick read, but reminded me that I don't like short stories that much because there isn't enough time to develop the characters. It did make me grateful that I have a sister and we've never had some of the problems that the ones in this book had.

Sisters

I love this book about Sisters as I have two older sisters older than me and we all live apart in different states. The memories of our childhood and the friendship we still have is something that can never be forgotten- the good and bad growing up made me want to cry at times in these stories. I am going inside to call them both now and hope they are doing well.

A collection of three really sweet short stories that I hated to see end, all of which left a lot of questions and, in the case of The Tidewater Sisters a longing to read more of that particular tale.

You have no idea how happy I was to learn that the stories in this book are the introductions to the books in Wingate's "Carolina Heirlooms" series. You DO get to read more!

Great if you like short stories, reading novellas after reading an author's actual book just make them seem incomplete and/or lacking character and story developement. It's not the book it's me? If you loved the previous books in this collection and want an update on the character's journey you'll appreciate these stories :)

I have read a couple books by Lisa Wingate and love her writing. I may have made a mistake by getting this one on audio. The stories about sisters were pretty good. My problem: The voices reading. I have a hard time with some lady voices. Voices that are breathy and oh so very soft, grate on my nerves.

I enjoyed the first story, The Sea Glass Sisters, in this audiobook. I skipped most of the second one, The Tidewater Sisters, because the reader was so bad. Something about her voice snd cadence made her impossible to understand - even after I reduced the playing speed. I might have enjoyed reading it, but I couldn’t listen to it. The third one, The Sandcastle Sister,

This book ties together the stories within this book (3 separate novellas), with other books she has written. It cleverly continues the stories in the 3 complete books and ties them together within this book. Very cleverly done. Sister relationships are complicated, challenging and affect our lives more than we can ever understand or imagine.
