A man on the run.
A woman afraid of nothing.

Violet was one of the British army’s top snipers when the insectoid Chittrix invaded Earth. She almost died in the first wave.

Traumatized, she takes refuge with survivors in an underground bunker near London, struggling to find a reason to live beyond waging guerilla warfare against the hated insects. Vengeance is not enough to make up for her losses, but it’s all she has.

Darr, always a lone wolf even before the invasion, lives with a secret that threatens to destroy him both mentally and physically. For the safety of everyone around him, he leaves the survivor’s community and avoids all human contact.

Living with the threat of death hanging over his head takes its toll. But going back is not an option.

When a Chittrix ambush traps Darr in close quarters with Violet, they band together to survive. With his abilities and her accuracy, they make a formidable team as bullets and sparks fly.

But the secret between them is a constant threat and soon, it will explode.

Darr is the third book in the Earth Resistance Series.

If you're the kind of reader who loves high-stakes romance grounded in real-world research—with damaged military heroes, complex plots, and women who won't be rescued—hello. You're my people.

I write intense, tightly plotted protector romance with covert ops, real-world threats, and hard-won love. My heroes have protection in their bones and loyalty in their hearts. My heroines are smart, self-reliant, and ready to fight—for others, for justice, for love.

Still mad Ripley never got with Hicks? Me too. So I fix that—with heat and redemption.

WARNING: Don't read before you go to sleep
Apparently I woke my husband up last night yelling out, "Help me!" in my sleep. Yep, the Scutters were chasing me and I was cornered against a rock wall in a mine shaft, and then they were covering my back and dragging me down.....

Even in the third installment of her genre mash-up Earth Resistance series, Theresa Beachman is still managing to amp up the horror aspect. New bugs. New ways to terrorize humans. Creepy settings. And then there is weird, reclusive, mysterious, downright mean - yet eternally good-looking - Darr. We met Darr in book two, but then he disappeared and was presumed dead. Luckily his demise was misadvertised, because he saves the lovely Violet in dramatic fashion.

I'm not quite sure why I am enjoying these books so much, but maybe it is because there are a lot of explosions, strangely intelligent insect aliens, vicious bad guys, and wonderfully humane good guys (and gals). While book two was fairly reminiscent of book one, this book takes a few dips and turns, and most of the plot is in the destroyed remnants of London rather than in the relative safety of the military bunker that shelters the humans. Darr, too, is a big surprise. In many ways, he is more of the catalyst to the story than Violet, and this is a gender switch from the previous two books, where I would say the female leads were the main protagonists. Don't get me wrong, Violet is formidable. And she saves the day more than once, but the surprises and suspense are coming from Darr's character. His secrets have secrets.

For a couple of chapters about 2/3 of the way into the book, everything kind of lagged for me even though Violet and Darr might be my favorite Earth Resistance couple so far. Did I nod off? Maybe. But then I powered through to see how, when and IF Darr was up to the task.

Why, oh why wasn't I dreaming about a sexy librarian pulling books off of shelves instead of Scutters pulling me into the abyss? And if that Easter egg doesn't make you want to pick up this book, I don't know what will.

How is this rated so highly? I quite frankly quit reading about a quarter of the way in. Another very abrasive heroine Violet who had no redeeming qualities (rude, hypocritical towards hero) blindly rushing into danger with overwhelming odds to save someone. This isn't smart or brave or courageous it's just plain stupid. So of course Darr gets beat up. And don't get me started on Darr. He had potential however he admired the way Violet treated him or justified it. What??

Very good apocalyptic world

I accidentally found the author looking for alien invasion books, and i like the world she created, the adventures they do and the in depth relationships between people with added baggage. This one was more action packed and really good to what we really will do as humans, when survival is your main goal. I recommend going from first book, so you can get better grasp on the events.

This story has been jumping from one plot twist to the next in a non-stop manner, and my head is spinning. I never thought the story would progress like this but it was an amazingly welcome surprise. Violet and Darr were amazing together. She is one bad-ass soldier and he is one hell of a guy for sure. Together, they are just TNT. Great book!

Another step forward with a left turn into the mystical. This story centers on the two protagonists and their love/hate relationship. The rest of the gang isn't around much until the end. The danger is palpable and the fight scenes are intense. No time left for love and romance, but this couple is made for each other.

Loved Violet!

I loved the chemistry between Violet and Darr. I loved that it took Violet coming back into Darr's life for him to accept who he is now.
Thank you Ms. Beachman for another great story.
