Jess is on the hunt for the vicious Van McLarty and once he puts him down, he takes the body into the town of Palmdale, Texas, where he runs into a very disagreeable county sheriff and the Corker clan. It seems the Corker men think they run things around their area, including the county sheriff.
After his run-in with three of the Corker men, the leader of the group, Hagar Corker, declares war on Jess and the town of Palmdale. The county sheriff rides out of Palmdale and leaves Jess to handle the clan by himself. Lead flies and blood is spilt before a truce can be agreed upon.
After leaving Palmdale, Jess finds himself being held against his will on a moving train owned by a wealthy man by the name of John Roscoe. He offers $100,000 to the gunslinger who can take Jess in a duel. The train snakes its way through Texas, New Mexico Territory, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, and Ohio, where Jess faces some of the deadliest gunfighters no one ever knew existed. His last challenge is with Roscoe, but Roscoe doesn’t play fair.
After teaching Roscoe a lesson, Jess heads to Stratton, Texas for a quick visit, but Reedy has a deadly job waiting for him. One that requires his special set of skills. He has to hunt down a former Texas Ranger who is hiding in a huge forest, and he’s an expert with a sniper rifle. To make matters worse, the Ranger has gone completely mad. Jess goes in, but will he come out?
Librarian's note: There is more than one author in the Goodreads database with this name.
In 1990 Robert J. Thomas was sworn in as the full time mayor for the city of Westland, Michigan. He served twelve years, making him the longest serving mayor in Westland's history.
While he was mayor he wrote his first book titled, How to Run for Local Office, which has now sold over 25,000 copies worldwide.
He has written and published on Kindle, the Jess Williams Westerns series. Retired, he now lives in Mississippi with his wfe Jill.
Jess gets involved in a clan's revenge, he being the target. Then he is kidnapped to participate in a series of "who's the best" gunfights The gunfight contests are a takeoff on a previous storyline involving a wealthy man who was looking for something to entertain him.
Another excellent novel by this author. I don’t believe that I will ever stop reading his stories about Jess Williams. These novels are “can’t put down “ stories. I have enjoyed reading this novel and all previous novels. I recommend this book to everyone.
Jess Williams out on the trail for a kill and then the town is under the constant threat of the Corker Clan who've terrorized the town. The County Sheriff left town because of his refusal to aid Jess facing this clan. Okay Jess cleaned up and ended scourging Corker Clan which pleased and settled everyone's stomach. Then he's kidnapped by an ultra rich eastern man who belongs to a secret underground shooting club. This man Roscoe set up five Shootist to meet Jess and if they killed him, they would receive half million dollars and the bragging rights to the other Shootist..crazzzy right???? Well Jess took care of that situation plus he gave away all this rich man's money to his help who were pleased and couple of the guards backed Jess up, even though he told them he didn't need their help and also told them to stay out of his way...crazzzy. Come on every Jess Williams readers/supporters we are riding with him and Gray, Sharps on all his assignments and whether he knows it or not, where his ghost riders....riding with the Biggs doggies.....yeah giddy amp ridin cowboys/cowgirls.....keep your coffee hot and your cookies sweet.....🍵🍵🍵
This is not the Jess Williams that we have come to know and love. I have all books in this series and am a big fan but... This book was unbelievable. The Jess Williams we knew from the past was overly cautious even put cans out and bared the door with a chair or squeaky floorboard. Jess would never have allowed someone to sneak up on him in broad daylight hit him on the head and kidnap him. And why did he never try and escape? No this book was not one of the best as it was unbelievable. You painted us a character in your other seventy two books and this book was not our beloved tough guy. I hope the next in the series brings us Jess Williams bounty hunter back
A Jess Williams Western/Controlled Gun fights for Profit
RJT has penned the 73 Jess Williams novel and the plot is very interesting. He engaged a Tennessee Mountain Clan in an open war. The war is a shooting one and Jess is kept carpet busy until The Clan agreed to a peace. Then Jess is kidnapped to be involved in another Dodge City shootout with rich gunslingers. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
Jess is kidnapped by John Roscoe and his body guards. Roscoe planned for Jess to draw against six finds and himself as the last opponent. Jess is angry that he is kidnapped and his unique gun is taken from him. Roscoe a very rich and powerful man who wants to be the one to withdraw the infamous Jess Williams.
The largest denomination of our currency of that time is the 100 dollar bill. The 500 and 1000 dollar bills were introduced in 1918 and the 5000 and 10000 dollar bills were first printed in 1928 (neither were issued to the public). Jess having 300000 dollars meant that he was carrying 3000 100 dollar bills
Jess continues to hunt killers but situations change when he is taken prisoner by a very rich man who has a contest planned. Thomas continues to pen great bounty hunter Western novels. Looking forward to reading number 74. I highly recommend this author.
This story is better than some I've read lately the train shootout challenge were good calling 2of them idiot's was delightful but Roscoe death should have been 6or more bullets in him for lots of Pain and Suffering??
What an awesome and exciting book. This has to be one of the best books in this series. Would highly recommend this series to all that enjoys a great western story.
Another winner. Nonstop action?. Jess is again the center of an ongoing contest with gunslicks from all over the country. As always, Jess comes out on top.
Jess is kidnapped by a rich man and is forced to have six gun rights until he kills the kidnapper. Along the way he make friends and kill more bad men.
You will never go wrong, reading this series. I am a die hard fan, always ready for another book, knowing it will keep me in one place, start to finish. Thanks
As always Robert J. Thomas has written a western to grab you and you can't lay it down. Jess is kidnapped and has to face several men who are in a club together. He beats them all and then has to face his kidnapper, John Roscoe. Roscoe wants to kill Jess so he can get his special gun. He uses the gun to try to kill Jess, but Jess shoots him in the shoulder to slow him down so he can kill him slowly for what he has done. Great read people. But you need to start with book one in this series to really appreciate the gun that Jess uses. This is book number 73. Now for book number 74 where Jess hunts down some really bad men named, Gideon and Crangle. Thank you, Robert J. Thomas, for a great read.
