Chateau Jolie #1

Rate this book
In the quaint mountain town of Windamere, North Carolina, the three Sargent sisters are determined to make their hotel and winery, Chateau Jolie, a success. And one by one, they’re finding that nothing pairs better with new beginnings than unexpected love…

The downside of living in a charming small town is that it’s impossible for Brooke Sargent to avoid anyone. Especially someone as big, handsome, and friendly as Trevor Bradley. At his brother’s wedding, they flirted and danced…before Brooke recalled that she’s not ready to trust any man after her divorce, let alone one who’s the competition. Her family’s struggling chateau is planning to host the local senior prom—without the Bradley family’s renowned Honeywilde Inn muscling in and stealing the glory.

Trevor has thought of no one else since the night he and Brooke connected. Even though she shot him down—hard—he’s seen the warmth beneath her guarded facade. Working together, they could give the high school students a spectacular prom. Navigating the rough terrain of Brooke’s business, while proving himself to his own siblings, won’t be easy. But Trevor loves a challenge—especially one that could win him the woman he can’t stop wanting . . .

Thank you to NetGalley, Lyrical Shine and Heather McGovern for an ARC ebook copy to review. As always, an honest review from me.

No One Like You is a sweet and sexy contemporary romance story that features an iconic moment in a teen’s life the high school prom. Except the main characters aren’t in high school anymore. They own hotels and wineries nearby and are begged to host the local prom after their venue couldn’t anymore. Trevor and Brooke end up planning the event together, despite some ups and downs.

I like that there’s some history between the two. They had met at a wedding months prior and there was some obvious attraction. So it’s not some brand new whirlwind romance. It took some time and is built off mutual trust and understanding. My kind of novel. The locales don’t hurt either. Gorgeous wineries, hotels, and gardens set the scene for a lovely romance. I especially like the couple. They’re both private people by nature. Also the actual planning of the event was really fun to read about.

However, their family’s backstory at times was a bit vague and confusing. With it being such an important part of the book, I wish it was a bit more figured out. But with a romance it’s easy to overlook those aspects as a reader.

Overall a lovely romance that I would love to read more of, in the series. A serious but feel good read.

This book has a lot going on, and I enjoyed it all.

It’s nice to see characters struggling with their place in their families. It's something that we've had to relate to at one time or another. It's more than being the outcast, black sheep, unwed teenage mother/father. It’s being the child who doesn't quite fit in. Either the youngest who isn't the mirror image of their older siblings in athletics or academics, or the eldest feeling the pressure to set a good example to his/her younger siblings. We've all had the feeling of not quite living up to the family expectations.

This is what we have here with Brooke and Trevor. Brooke's back home after a failed marriage and is trying to manage her family's hotel and winery. She's afraid that if something doesn't happen soon, the inn will falter and close thereby leaving her legacy as the one who couldn't manage the inn. She hasn't told many people about her marriage and divorce, it’s not something she's proud of and feels as though it will ruin the community's good will towards her family.

Trevor's back in Windamere after working for a couple of years in Peru building homes and schools for people in need. Problem is, when he left for that little adventure, he only planned on being gone for a few weeks but once there, stayed. His brothers and sister are afraid that he's going to leave again – and without notice – so they are constantly asking him his plans. He realizes that he's now part of the family business and can't just leave for extended periods of time, but Trevor realizes that without his time away, the urges to run are almost overwhelming.

Both Trevor and Brooke have a lot of issues to explore and conquer, and as we get to know them, you can definitely see how opposites attract.

Entertaining read that introduces us to the Sargent sisters. They own Chateau Jolie and are working hard to make it successful. The last thing Brooke Sargent needs is to deal with Trevor Bradley. First she has no time or desire to figure out her attraction to him. Second his family is their biggest competition. Nothing good can come of this. Can it?

I'm enjoying this spinoff of the Honeywilde series. This author does a great job developing interesting characters and writing fresh intriguing stories. This book is no exception and I'm looking forward to more! I highly recommend this one.

This is a new-to-me author, but I wanted to check her out when I read the description of this story. Since it is the first of a series, I figured it would be a good place to dive into reading this author’s work. Seems like this is an offshoot of this author’s A Honeywilde Romance, but I don’t think not reading that series was a detriment while reading this one. But I do feel some depth was missed.

Trevor is an amazing guy. I’m sure I would have liked his character even more if I had gotten to know him in the Honeywilde series. He’s laid back and a go with the flow kind of guy, but he’s also extremely caring and empathetic. Trevor and Brooke had an instant connection, even if she’s resistant. But Trevor is persistent without crossing the line into being a creeper. He pushes just enough to let Brooke make her own choices after realizing she needs more fun and excitement in her life.

I really enjoyed a lot about this story, but there was a piece of the puzzle I felt I was missing. Brooke and Trevor definitely had chemistry, even though I didn’t find it to be off the charts. I don’t think their subtle chemistry was the problem. There were some issues I had with trying to figure out how Trevor’s family wasn’t more familiar with Brooke’s family when they all went to high school in the same small town. Wouldn’t they all at least know each other on a peripheral level? Yet that also isn’t what kept this story from being more than okay for me. There was just something lacking in this story that kept me from being fully engaged.

That all being said, I think I would still like to explore this author. Whether it would be best to go back and read the first book of the Honeywilde series, A Moment of Bliss, or waiting and reading the next book in this series when it comes out, I don’t know. Her writing is engaging enough and her storyline compelling enough for me to give her another go.

No One Like You begins the Sargent sisters adventures in business, life and love in the Chateau Jolie series (a spin-off series from Honeywilde Romance). While I would say it’s not technically necessary to have read Honeywilde Romance before diving into this series… they are wonderful stories in their own right and would only enhance your enjoyment of this new series… in my opinion.

Brooke is determined to make her family’s inn and winery a success along side her sisters. It won’t be easy for they have some pretty impressive competition in the form of Honeywilde Inn and the Bradley family’s influence in the town. That’s not going to stop Brooke, she’s not going to be the generation that let the family legacy fall apart… even if she has no idea how to prevent that from happening. It certainly didn’t help matters any that she’s had a mild flirtation and a lovely evening with Trevor Bradley at a recent wedding reception. But those feelings had to be shut down fast for there was no way that Brooke was willing to put her trust into any man again after her disastrous marriage and resulting divorce… and especially not with a member of the competition’s family. No. This thing with Trevor would go nowhere… now she just had to convince them both.

I enjoyed No One Like You, it’s an excellent start to the new series. Trevor and Brooke are such a perfect for each other couple but they certainly do have issues to work through, and family to deal with. Family. Sometimes they are your worst nightmare come to life with expectations that are so far from reachable. And then they can be a fife saver… family, gotta love ’em. If you’re in the mood for a really good romance that will touch your emotions and grab your curiosity, then you’d love Trevor and Brooke’s romance.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

4 star review of No One Like You (Chateau Jolie #1) by Heather McGovern

Heather McGovern is a new author to me and I have no idea why that is. I enjoyed my first experience reading one of her books, and in fact I am will be off to check out her other works as soon as possible.

Brooke Sargent is one of three sisters that run a hotel and winery called the Chateau Jolie. Whilst she loves what she does, there is often a downside to living in a small town, not least of which is that everyone knows your business and it is hard to avoid people. Brooke has returned home to Windamere after a failed marriage to help her sisters run the Chateau Jolie but she is unsettled and concerned what the towns’ people will say if they learn of her divorce.

Having flirted with Trevor Bradley previously she is doing her best to avoid him. However Trevor has other ideas as he is intrigued by Brooke and wants to see where things can lead. When Brooke and Trevor have to join forces to help put on the local high school’s prom, Trevor sees an opportunity to get to know Brooke better.

I believe that this series is a spin off from another one of the author’s series Honeywilde Romance, but I don’t think it is totally necessary to have read that series prior to picking up No One Like You. Although having said that I did at times feel as though I was missing a bit of the back story but it didn’t stop me enjoying this book.

No One Like You is a sweet, romantic story that I found pleasing to read and I am looking forward to seeing where Heather McGovern takes this series.

This appears to be a spin off of another series by McGovern. Although it left me slightly curious about the Bradley family, it didn't impact the ability to enjoy this story.

As always, I fell in love with the male lead. Trevor was the perfect specimen, kind, understanding and of course hot. The way he continuously came to Brookes aid made me swoon as there are not a lot of people in life who are so selfless, male or female.

The story was light, romantic and easy to read. I had thought I was familiar with McGovern's work however when I search make in my archives it appears she is new to me (at least recently). I enjoyed her writing style and will certainly read more of her work in the future. I look forward to the stories featuring Brooke's sisters.

Heather McGovern is a new author to me and after reading No One Like You I’m struggling to understand why she hasn’t crossed my radar before now.
Brooke Sargent owns Chateau Jolie a winery in partnership with her sisters , things are not going to plan the event side of the business is struggling so when the local high school seniors lose their money with another venue it makes sense for Chateau Jolie to help out. Brooke is approached by an old friend Trevor Bradley to step in and help the high school out but it’s not just the event on his mind he has crushed on Brooke since high school but will Brooke be able to trust her heart......
This is a perfect introduction to the Sargent sister’s and Chateau Jolie, a enjoyread with likeable characters and by the end of the book I was wanting more from the sisters and the residents of Windamere North Carolina. It’s a love story about second chances it’s about trust and it’s about small town living where everyone knows everyone and their business. Looking forward to more from this author and Chateau Jolie.

Brooke Sargent and her sisters are the owners of Chateau Jolie, a winery and struggling event venue. The local high school seniors have lost their money that was raised for the prom after another venue went bankrupt after their full payment. Brooke is approached by an old friend, Trevor Bradley who had a huge crush on Brooke in high school, to consider using Chateau Jolie for the student's event. He convinces Brooke to host the prom for the high school as he and Brooke are attracted to each other once again and begin a relationship. Sweet story with likable characters that are perfect for this engaging contemporary romance.

What I liked/Didn’t Like: a Well written story with likable characters and a real small-town feel. Had a few questions at the end of the book that were unresolved, I am hoping they get resolved in the next book.

DNF @ 67 %.

I feel like this book is one of the books I'd love to see as a movie but not read.
It was a very slow burn romance. The focus is more on the chateau Jolie the heroine manages and the upcoming prom than their romance. I am more than half in and I am dnf-ing because so far nothing much interesting is happening. I miss romance, passion.

ARC provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I won this book from a goodreads giveaway. I’ve read many different books like this, most are the same run of the mill stories. Once I read past the first few chapters with all the back story, I couldn’t put it down. It was well written and I loved how the characters had a history before the romance. Can’t wait to read more from this author (I’m assuming she’ll write more about the Sargent sisters).

Another good well written read from Heather. I have read several of Heather's other book so I had a good idea I would enjoy this one and it did not disappoint. This was a cute romance with good characters that are really likable and real. I enjoyed Brooke and Trevor's story and I am looking forward to reading her sisters books

I'm going to give this book a solid 3 stars.... mostly because I had some issues getting into the story of Trevor and Brooke. The ending was sweet though.

Worth a try.
This is my first book by this author and it is the first book in this new series. Can be rad on its own.

What a sweet story about opening your heart again after being put through the ringer. Brooke has to work with Trevor her families competition but the man who made her forget her misery even if it was just dancing/conversation. Perfect blend of sisterhood even though Brooke tries so hard to keep her sisters from taking on her mistakes. Trevor is trying to prove himself to his brother but he feels like he’ll never never do it no matter how much he achieves. Heartwarming, love story about family togetherness working to make a prom possible that seemed hopeless.

Brooke Sargent needs a big event to organise, if she’s to have any hope of keeping her family’s struggling Chateau open. Too bad she has to work alongside Trevor Bradley to organise a prom after the kid’s original plans go belly-up. Still, Brooke is determined to make the prom the best one they’ve ever had. Will Trevor and Brooke be able to pull off the plans they make or will they lose their shot at happy ever after because Brooke finds it hard to trust? Read More

This is the third book in this series and it follows the same line. Falling in love with someone you were against because you finally see the real person. And then realize you can be happy if you have the courage to try.

This is one of those books you need to curl up in a blanket by the fireside to read. An easy read, Brooke was married and divorced by the time she came back to her small home town, to help her sisters run Chateau Jolie and the winery. Their parents had retired and were travelling the country in an RV.

Trevor had also been away for a year in Peru before coming back to same town to help run Honeywilde, with his brothers and sister. After the local school had been scammed out of all their Prom money, Trevor and Brooke were pushed together to sort out a prom for them on the cheap.

Chateau Jolie was not financially doing so well as Honeywilde were their main rivals. It starts with Brooke not wanting Trevor to help her but wanted Honeywilde to sponsor it, not happening!!!! The more time the spent time together the more they realised they had more in common than first thought. It ends up a budding romance, only Brooke has kept one secret to herself. She finally tells him that her ex was fighting for a share in Chateau Jolie, this causes a slight hiccup in the relationship! Can they get over this???
