“I have no business even thinking about using her as bait.”

Sold into slavery as a teenager, Mallory Landrum was held captive by Varian Roys until she was coerced into testifying against him, and despite their promise to protect her, the corrupt government of Kallisto sends her to Rhodon. There, she is rented out to wealthy guests who come to tour the prison planet until she escapes into the open population, only to find herself in zone three, hiding from the very man she sent to prison.

Hit man Barrett Oliver survived the brutal attack that took both his voice and his wife. He swore to kill everyone who played a part in her death, but when his vengeance falls short, he winds up on Rhodon, in the same zone as Varian Roys, the man he failed to kill.

When he discovers Mallory fleeing the wreckage of a crashed space yacht, he realizes she’s just the bait he needs to draw their mutual enemy out of hiding. Though he can’t speak to her, the more time he spends with the beautiful, psychologically fragile little survivor, the harder he falls for her. And the less willing he is to dangle her in front of a monster who’s already taken his first love…

Traitor is a gritty 75,000 word romance containing scenes and content that might be disturbing to some readers.

Argumento:

AMÉ a Mallory y a Barrett!!! Me gustaron por ser tan diferentes. Él no podía hablarle y ella no podía leer.

Porqué busca a Lilli? Me quedé de piedra cuando comenzó a tomar forma de otras personas!

Quiero leer el siguiente libro YA!

This is the first book in the series that I loved as much as the first! (Although I've loved all of them for the most part). The chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS (and really is something I've come to expect from Emmy Chandler), it was lovely to see some old favourites, and it was really cool seeing how well the characters communicated with each other (especially given that the hero is nonverbal). None of this misreading a situation - they are there for each other and TRUST that they are there for each other. Poor decisions are made, but it's never because one of the characters is trying to lie to the other!

Considering I DNF'ed the previous book in the series (the heroine was just to annoying to even stomach for me) I was freaking shocked that I loved this one as much as I did.

Not only was the story good but I liked both main characters! We even got more "where are they now" from previous couples. YES!

There was also an awesome twist at the end that leads us into what the next series/spin off will be like.

YAY!

Pretty good. Nice to see the others and the tie-in to the spin-off book Escape.

The tragedy these two experienced at the hands of one man nearly broke each of them. Here they meet and heal each other, find others they can rely on and find a future with happiness in the midst of a crap future (since the are still convicts on a prison planet).

The whole series is based on a prison planet where the owners make their money on the people they imprison. Basically government gives up their convicts into slavery under the UA authority; using them to make money from them either by fist, on their backs or with their literal flesh and blood.
Zone 1: gladiator fights,
Zone 2: death row hunts & the resort
Zone 3: gen pop; release zone for champions and some regular convicts
Zone 4: gen. pop. Where the women are a commodity, kept weak and abused to keep them docile to status quo.
...and 2 labs so far.
1st lab: organ donors & surrogates
2nd lab: genetic experimentation

I’m writing this on the go so I might come back to amend this.

Anyway I didn’t like this one as much as the others... I feel sorry for Mallory and all but it’s kind of hard to like her as a heroine. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not because of anything she says or does, but I just generally don’t enjoy reading about abused women. I just tend to avoid it. I read this book anyway because I do really like the series.

I did enjoy Barrett in this. It was intriguing reading things from his perspective and how frustrating it was from someone who couldn’t talk.

The best part of the book hands down is the introduction of Carson. At the end it says Lilli will be the next heroine of that series. I’m hoping she’s not just like Mallory. The weird DNA thing going on is very interesting

There’s also going to be a Warren book and in this one Warren was getting close to Danna. Which is great for them but frankly doesn’t seem as interesting to me. To have them start off in the sorority, if that’s what they do.

I HAD ZERO EXPECTATIONS OF THIS STORY OR ITS CHARACTERS, BUT THE AUTHOR CERTAINLY CHANGED MY MIND AFTER MEETING...

BARRETT was once a foot soldier of Varian - the antagonist of the story who raped and killed his wife. For revenge, he attempted a massive shoot out upon Varian, ending up with a shrapnel stuck in his brain and in exchange, he became speech impaired. Frankly, if Barrett could talk, it would make this story a little less interesting. I've always appreciated a quiet, brooding hero and Barrett was all that wrapped up in a yummy, protective package. If there's one thing this author does like a pro, it's how her heroes are such great protectors. Barrett encountered Mallory all by accident when she's masturbating in the forest, only to save her life from the man he was with. Somehow, this frail woman sticks to him and grows upon him. He's upset that she thinks that he needs an exchange of sexual favours to keep her safe, and being unable to speak, it makes it hard for them to communicate. That's the beauty of it. They managed to co-exist with barely words but more on body language, gestures, facial cues and sexual intimacy. It was beautiful. But, Barrett himself is leashed to the past and until he kills Varian, he and Mallory won't be able to move on.

MALLORY hasn't known love in its truest form ever since she was sold to Varian. The poor girl was conditioned to act, behave and think like a submissive pet, accepting Varian's love and abuse until it turned her a little fucked up. She's not above spreading her legs for anyone for her own life and protection. After things blew up and she managed to escape from Varian, she ends up as a space prostitute where anyone can rent her for their sexual perversion. Lucky for her, the blimp she's working on ended up crashing and she's a free woman once again. Only, she's now on Zone Three where all the ruthless gladiators and convicts are dumped upon. Needless to say, she's not safe in an environment of pure testosterone. Barrett stumbling upon her was sheer luck, and she was lucky that he wasn't a bad guy interested to rape her. Mallory decides to tag along him, finding reasons for him to have her around, even offering sex as a bargain. But, she'll know that he's not that kind of man, and even if they do have sex, he'll show her that sex can also be about mutual pleasure. The author sure had a way to kickstart their relationship with sex, since Mallory was high on aphrodisiac, Barrett helped her to ease the pain.

OVERALL this was another interesting and engaging addition to the series. I completely devoured the whole thing within hours and I can't wait to get my hands on Project Vetus.

Perfectly broken like a jigsaw and Mallory and Barrett are a match

Rating: 😍😍😍😍😍

Mallory & Barrett's Story

First off, is it just me or was Sebastian coming out with the best lines ever?! I chuckled almost every time he came on the scene. Anyway, more importantly Mallory and Barrett's story. So we met Mallory in book 2 - Hunter, she was the one that was left behind with Graham in zone 2 as the great escape from the Resort was happening. We know Graham was sent to the arena in zone 1 but Mallory, oh dear sweet baby Jesus - Mallory was sent up to Station Alpha. This girl has had a horrible life, full of abuse, violence and mistreatment. Her story is just so heart breaking. But when Sebastian crashed the blimp Mallory was on trapped in a guest room. Her luck starts to turn around and she is able to escape onto the prison planet surface - Zone 3. There are so many dangers in Zone 3 for any woman but there is more danger in this particular zone for Mallory then other women. There is a man from her past - the reason she is in prison - that would do anything to get his revenge.

Barrett, we haven't met him before, but for a man that can't speak his actions speak louder than words. He is a former Champion from the arena in Zone 1 - he won the year before Sylvie. Barrett has caused death even before the arena, before the reason for his sentencing. But Barrett is fiercely loyal, protective, and he's a good man that has also had a partial nightmare of existence. And when he comes across Mallory well he doesn't want anything to do with her. But Mallory is a light in his darkness and even after the hell she has lived through she smiles, laughs, sings, dances, and is everything he didn't think he'd have again or want again. Mallory and Barrett's knotted past and present story is one not to miss - its just heartbreakingly wonderful.

Emmy - wow! This one has to have been hard at times to write, just right. Plot was so well put together, humour to lighten the story, depth of emotion, and it kept me hooked. Mallory and Barrett both have devastating pasts with scars that run deeper than the skin. I just love where this series is going and I can't wait to see about that spin off - HELLO Carson! - as well as what story is given to us next... Common Warren and Danna! If you haven't started to read this series I recommend starting with the first book - they can be read on their own but there are a lot of reoccurring characters. Loved, loved, loved this book - grab the tissues and a comfy spot you probably won't be getting up until you are done.

Mallory is both fragile and strong. How is that possible? I don't know but the author makes it very believable. A heroine who has seen the worst of people but still takes joy in the little things, still takes time to sing. Barrett has suffered greatly, losing his voice in the process. He's very big and one of the strongest gladiators the prison planet has seen. They are in a brutal place but come to see the best parts of each other. It would have been a great book if the author had stopped there but twists and turns are in store for our couple. There is great danger and suspense that I can't tell you about without spoiling it for you. I absolutely loved how their story was so unique and different from the others in the series while letting us see the characters from the previous books. I was rooting for this couple through the entire book and it was definitely my favorite of the series. I also loved the lead in to the next series. A real page turner!

All of the books in this series are SO good, especially if you’re into the trope of “surly hero spends the whole book protecting his woman from other men.”

Each one has a different and unique storyline and even when I wasn’t sure how a HEA could happen, the author made it happen so well (albeit too abruptly).

Now to vent a little. Not about the series but... This is the SECOND series in a row that I’ve fallen in love with, that remains obviously unfinished, and there’s no suggestion that it will ever continue. The other is Cassandra Gannon’s Elemental Phases series. Neither series has seen a new novel in five years, which bums me the hell out, because both have amazing overarching plots.
But! I know I can’t make demands from the authors of these amazing worlds, and I also get that life can totally get in the way of anything and everything. It just feels like a huge cliffhanger that I’ll never know the resolution for. 😭

From degradation to love - an exciting story!
So many lives cast away on this god forsaken planet! A fortunate few find love, and friends to help keep each other safe.
After her escape from the ‘blimp,’ Mallory finds herself in a very precarious position. Thankfully, Barrett is inclined to assist.
Barrett’s inability to speak makes it difficult for him to communicate, but Mallory interprets his expressions and vocalizations better than anyone. He is alternately gruff and caring. Mallory soon charms her way into his heart!
I especially like Mallory. Her history is truly bleak, but she can still sing, or dance in a meadow - expressing a sunny nature - thrilled with the freedom she’s experiencing.
I love the author’s descriptions. For example: “squeezing...like a blood pressure cuff with an ax to grind.” Excellent story-telling!

This book will give you all the feels for Mallory and Barrett. Two more damaged individuals could not find themselves together on a prison planet. Mallory needs someone, anyone to help keep her safe; Barrett doesn’t think he’s right for the task. Their first obstacle is that they cannot communicate, the second is that she has crossed an evil man who knows that she’s also on the prison planet.

If you’re looking for a science fiction romance with danger, adventure, and sexy times, read this book. Actually, read the whole series!

I'm loving Emmy Chandler! This is probably one of the bests in the series. Could compete with - maybe even trump - Champion. I loved Barret and Mallory. I loved how dark and broken their story was. There wasn't any point in the story where I lost interest and forced myself to continue. I just couldn't drop it. And the introduction of Carson character definitely peaked my interest for the Project Vetus series. I'm going straight for Escape now.

Don't want to say this book was unneccessary, but the plot was a little too similar to the rest of the stories. I do think that there was a need to wrap up Mallory's story after introducing her and giving Graham a story, but I really didn't find this book all that compelling. I think that there was a lack of backstory early enough for me to understand the characters motives, but I think that it was nice to see where the sorority ends up during this series.

An entertaining story and a good end to the Prison Planet series.

I liked both Barrett and Mallory. Both had a rough past, especially Mallory. I liked that Barrett didn't expect anything from Mallory and just wanted her safe.

This story had a similar plot to the first two books, but I don't care! I still enjoyed it. It was great seeing all the other characters and their involvement to protect Mallory.

Overall, sweet love story with some spice

Mallory and Barrett

I so like this series, more and more with each additional book. The writing is imaginative but not too far fetched. The world build is well done and complete. The character development is so well crafted that you become vested, liking these people a lot. I await the next one...and am willing to return to Rhodan and be imprisoned there again and again .

Emmy writes Mallory and Barret's story of life with PTSD and life after sex trafficking. These two experienced some aweful events in life and find each other in prison planet. Mallory is tenacious in finding good in Barret while Barret wants to give Mallory a safe situation in the prison planet.

I didn't like anything else in the series and the writing wasn't great and tbh it's not much better than the 37378w7e8w other exactly the same books I've read. So I give it 2.5 stars.
BUT. I cried, so +1 star. The heroine has black hair, +0.5 star. WTH WAS THAT ENDING?
