The Necromancer's Prey

He's investigating her people - so why can't she resist him?

Rory's been an outcast her whole life, never feeling like she fit in with the other necromancers. With the Shifter Council investigating a rogue, her loyalties are torn between the people she doesn't belong to, and the shifter she can't seem to stop thinking about.

When Alden saves Rory one night, the attraction between them becomes too difficult to ignore, and he finally starts to accept that she could be his mate.

-

The Vampire's Bite

What if the only way to save him was to turn him into a monster?

Tony never asked to be a vampire. He didn't even know they existed until he interrupted the wrong man.

Eden has always avoided turning anyone, but there was something about Tony that made her do it. But now, she has to face the consequences of her actions that night. And adding a new vampire into the mix, doesn't make that any easier.

-

The Witch's Stripes

He was only ever meant to take some pictures...

When charity spokeswoman, Dana, needs a last minute photographer, the last person she expects to turn up is her mate. But the moment he arrives, something changes within her.

The Dryad's Pawprint #1 The Dryad's Pawprint (Paranormal Council, #1) by Laura Greenwood

If this were any longer I wouldn't have bothered to finish it. It's that meh.

Mating for shapeshifters is instinctual. This is fact, and the only thing that making it so that a panther shifter doesn't know its mate at first meeting will accomplish is me shaking my head at the wrongness of all of it.
Mating for shapeshifters is instinctual. This is fact, and the only thing that making it so that a panther shifter is okay without any kind of contact with its mate for a year instead of going feral will accomplish is me making faces at this book while repeatedly screaming why in my thoughts.
Mating for shapeshifters is instinctual. This is fact, and the only thing that making it so that a panther shifter asks permission to mark its mate will accomplish is me feeling like I just wasted my time.

Also, Kem is a wimp.
Orthographic mistakes, na na na.
Nice book cover, though.

The Vixen's Bark #2 The Vixen's Bark (Paranormal Council, #2) by Laura Greenwood

And again, meh.

I was eager to read The Vixen's Bark when I saw it would be about Ari and Bjorn since she had the potential to be a great character from what the previous book showed of her. Then I started reading this and. . . No, just no. She's completely different from what I was expecting, and not in a good way.

Ari was supposed to be tough with a sensitive side. Instead she's a river of tears with a dash of terrible at keeping secrets and oh, would ya look at that: more tears.
Bjorn was supposed to be a growling bear with a softer side shown only to his mate, and instead I get an uncute teddy bear.

My frustration with this series stems from its characters --they are boring, whiny and stubborn to an unbearable degree--, the distortion of the lore surrounding mates --how can their animal sides not push them toward each other?-- and the lack of scenery.

I get that this isn't long enough for there to be much development, but since it is a series there's room for more. And it isn't being realized. All I'm getting to see are the different councils, and two people not being certain if they are mates or not and fighting their pull to each other b/c of it. And sex, always. Which wouldn't be a problem except that this is too short for there to be so many scenes of it.

The Necromancer's Prey #3 The Necromancer's Prey (Paranormal Council, #3) by Laura Greenwood

This was, unexpectedly, an almost enjoyable read.

Unexpectedly b/c my opinion of The Dryad's Pawprint and The Vixen's Bark was low. I was prepared for another book with uninteresting and clueless characters, full of a denial to commit while still managing to get together pretty much every other chapter. And it had all that, only to a more manageable level. Imagine my delight when Rory and Alden also had a bit of depth to them! Better yet, they had chemistry. The cuteness? It reached new highs(not that hard to do considering how low the bar was set, but still).
And some plot too, so there's that.

Why the two stars rating, then? Well, Rory was somewhat stupid, Alden had that whole controlling alpha-male aspect to him which I absolutely detest, plus all my previous reasons for disliking this series still stand. *awkwardly shrugs*

The Vampire's Bite #4 The Vampire's Bite (Paranormal Council, #4) by Laura Greenwood

Even if Eden wasn't so annoying I still wouldn't have enjoyed this. So yeah, this is another meh book in this series.

Something about the vampires' behavior reminds me too much of humans -- probably the absence of the cutthroat attitude supernaturals tend to embody. I have the same problem with how the shifters come across; as tame.

The mating process continues to irk me.

The Witch's Stripes #5 The Witch's Stripes (Paranormal Council, #5) by Laura Greenwood

The Witch's Stripes was the push I needed to quit this series once and for all.

Calling someone a witch doesn't a witch make. That's my biggest problem with this series as a whole. The world building is so lacking I can't picture anything about it; there are just words on a page, there's no story being shown. The characters are lackluster and their emotions, backgrounds, personalities and basically all the things that make a character are nonexistent.

Is it really any surprise that the romance here just doesn't work(at all)? How could I ever want for these two people to be together when I don't know them at all? When I don't even consider them to be remotely real?
Dana and Luke meet each other and suddenly they're in love. Why ever would it matter that they don't know anything about each other besides their names, their species and their professions?

At 26%, without even trying to, I had found no less than five grammar mistakes -- for how short this book is, that's a lot -- that were caused by carelessness e.g. "That would never work if Dana got their first." and "Given that there appeared to be in a large, spacious warehouse, it really could be anything.".

Great collection of interconnected novella length paranormal stories, that are light and steamy.
*** Novella's and short stories not included in this collection but have strong ties to the series. They are not necessary to read to enjoy this collection but do enhance it.

The Dryads Pawprint
Kem, a panther shifter, had a 1 night stand a year ago, and hasn't been able to get her out of his head. He has been looking for her ever since. Her name is all he has to go on.
Lia, a Nymph, had a 1 night stand a year ago, and suspects he was her fated mate. Not long after she developed a new power, one only shifters have. All her research points to he is her mate. She has been looking for him ever since. His name is all she has to go on.
Kem is called to the Shifter Council. The Dryad Council is seeking an alliance through a political marriage. Kem has been chosen as the groom. When he meets his prospective bride, she bares a striking resemblance to Lia. When Lia sees Kam at a reception she realizes that he is the man her sister is suppose to marry.

The Vixen's Bark
Ari, is a fox shifter. A talented defense attorney, and holds a seat on the shifter council. She loves both her jobs.
Bjorn is a bear shifter, a PI and also holds a seat on the shifter council. Ari is his mate. Council members's can't be mated. He understands how important Ari's work on the council is. He and Ari have been conducting a secret affair for months. Neither is sure how much longer they can keep things secret. Some friendly advise from a fellow council member just may let Bjorn to openly claim Ari and allow her to keep her council seat. He just needs a little help from the newest member of the Dryad Council.

The Necromancer's Prey
Aldar is a gray owl shifter. University Professor, teaching literature, and holds a seat on the Paranormal Council. Ari successful defense of a human female accused of murder, has brought a sinister problem before the council. She strongly suspects a Necromancer, in a string of suspicious deaths. Alder with the help of Bjorn has been investigating. He can't seem to keep his mind of his contact with they Necromancer Council.
Rory is the Necromancer Council's ambassador. She is not your "typical necromancer". She doesn't use blood slaves. She doesn't feel the need to cause harm, unless she is protecting her self or someone else. She has been charged to aid the shifter council in finding a rogue necromancer. Trouble is, necromancers are very secretive. She doesn't even know who the council members are, there is no registry. She brings very little to the table as far as the investigation goes. She can't seem to keep her mind off her handsome counter part on the Shifter Council.
When Rory finds her self a target, Aldar comes to her aid and they learn just what they are to each other.
*** His Lost Bear is a short story can be read after The Dryads Pawprint, and features Kam's older brother but takes place after The Necromancers Prey

*** Spellboud is a short story that leads up to The Vampire's bite and introduces Eden and Tony.

Tony doesn't know how he came to be in a strange bed with a beautiful pink haired women looking down on him. An accountant, he is a practical man, so when she starts to explain, a lot of things in the world start to make sense to him. Now he is getting a crash course in being a vampire, the paranormal world at large and a mate to a surprisingly down to earth 200 year old vampire. Finding he really likes his new life. The Dryad's Pawprint (Paranormal Council, #1)

"...another good reason to stay out of paranormal politics."

Kem can't imagine why the Shifter Council has summoned him - and we he gets there he's even more surprised, but that doesn't stop him from standing up for himself.

Lia has spent the past year thinking about her amazing one night stand... and just how increasingly strange her life has gotten. Is she ready for more unexpected twists and turns?

This done in one quick read is a short foray into a world of paranormal beings, where politics is usually outside the realm of the average person, but sometimes it creeps into the lives of unsuspecting family members.

The Vixen's Bark (Paranormal Council, #2)

"All true mates needed to do was meet,"

Ari cares about her career, and the people she works for and helps with her work on a daily basis, so she's not going to give it up without a fight, or a darned good reason.

Bjorn knows how much being on the Paranormal Council means to Ari, and he would resign in a heartbeat if it meant they could be together, but he's going to have to be more creative than that, and work harder than that if he wants this girl.

This done in one quick read tackles prejudice, falling into the trap of echoing what we heard growing up without thinking about it, sexism, and tackles a tradition.

The Necromancer's Prey (Paranormal Council, #3)

"Even if she didn’t agree with the way necromancers lived their lives, she had to stay loyal to them."

Rory may not be your typical necromancer, but as their liaison to the shifted council she's doing her best, for her people, and for truth and justice.

Alden hasn't felt the same since he met Rory, and it turns out there may be a !I've changing good reason why.

This story stands solidly on its own, though the case they are investigating was launched in the previous book, and characters from the first book are alluded to.

As a necromancer, Rory is all too aware of the evil her magic can be used fir, and the ways in which her people can harm ktgers, but this is a story about trying to be more than your worst instincts, better than others assume, about finding the good in your abilities, and striving to do the right thing, especially when it is hard.

The Vampire's Bite (Paranormal Council, #4)

"...off didn't even begin to describe the way he felt right now."

Tony doesn't quite remember what happened last night, but the things Eden is telling him fit more into the "we're not alone in the Universe" category than the "I'm going to freak out now" one, for which he's grateful.

Eden has lived over 200 years, and nothing in all that time has prepared her for encountering Tony.

This done in one quick read is a charming story where he's got a bit of an old soul, and she's knocked off balance and feeling like a kid again. What I love is how both embrace the feeling they've met someone special, and make the effort to nurture the spark between them, even in seemingly small ways.

The Witch's Stripes (Paranormal Council, #5)

"...he was prouder of his photos than he was of his magic. They actually took skill."

Dana runs a wildlife charity, and she needs a photographer who can handle humans, animals... and understands shifters.

Luke is a photographer who takes the jobs that pays the bills, but couldn't be happier when he's hired for a job that fuels his creative passions, and is in line with his dreams.

This done in one kindle unlimited quick read stands solidly on its own, it connects most closely to Eden's story, but is written such that it is easy to step into without having read the entire series.

I love that Dana is a confident predatory shifter, but she's also a mere mortal, influenced by her instincts and emotions.

This is the complete boxset of the Paranormal Council stories by Laura Greenwood, making it a great value purchase. I've included reviews for the individual stories below (and with them all being novellas, they're short enough to read in just a couple of hours each, which is a great length), but I'll just add that if you love adult supernatural romance stories, with a HEA, this is the boxset for you!
The only negative I have is that a lot of questions are left unanswered, even after finishing the whole boxset. What is the head vampire up to and can he be stopped? Is bringing in hunters the right move? What happened to the vampire taken prisoner at the end of the last book? What's the dragon shifter's plan for her? Will he or the unicorn shifter find their mates? Who is the missing princess and where is she? Can the necromancers be reorganised to be positively run?.... So many questions!! But I'm sure these and more will be answered in other books that the author writes.
NB I received a complimentary copy of this book, but I always give an HONEST review based wholly on my own opinions
Individual Stories:
The Dryad's Pawprint (5*) 27/10
I liked the fact that this story had so much going on, yet was so clear on who everyone was and what their relationships were, unlike some books I've read. It was also interesting finding out about dryads, nymphs, shifters, and about their societies' rules about mating, marriage and governance (in the world of Laura Greenwood!). It was a perfect length story - long enough to really explore the storyline, but short enough to read in a couple of hours - and with a HEA it's a great read for any shifter and supernatural romance lovers.
The Vixen's Bark (4*) 27/10
This second book involves a relationship that we saw a brief glimpse of in the first novella, between two members of the Shifters' Council, a fox and bear shifter. I liked the fact that there were more interesting considerations behind the relationship in this story - whether it would mean them losing their council seats, what it would mean for their family relationships etc - and that these issues are actually dealt with, not just swept under the carpet 'because they love each other' as I've seen other authors do. An excellent story for shifter and supernatural romance lovers.
The Necromancer's Prey (5*) 27/10
This third novella introduces necromancers into the mix, as we meet Rory (the Necromancer Council's Ambassador mentioned in the second book) and see her work with the previous characters to try and unveil and capture the rogue necromancer who has been murdering people. We also find out who her mate is, and find out more about what effects the mate bond has on the partners.
This was a great story, and I loved how full of action it was, and how all the characters so far in the series were involved. It's a brilliant read (even if some things were easy to guess!) and I'd definitely recommend it for all supernatural romance lovers.
The Vampire's Bite (4*) 28/10
The fourth novella in the Paranormal Council series, this story has a predominantly vampire theme, with the other supernatural characters not making their appearance until toward the end of the story. But even with just the vampire side of the story, this is a lovely story of two people finding each other against incredible odds, one saving the other from death, and them finding a HEA as true mates. Beautifully written, this is a great read for all supernatural romance fans.
The Witch's Stripes (5*) 28/10
As hinted at by the title, this final story is about a witch and a tiger shifter. It's an excellent story, and a great final novella in the boxset. I'd definitely recommend both the story and the boxset to all shifter and supernatural romance lovers.

The Dryad's Pawprint
This was a fascinating introduction to the politics of the Council. Kem and Lia seem destined to have their happiness thrown away for the sake of the Council’s alliance, but they might be able to make the power play work for them instead. I really enjoyed reading these two. The sparks sizzle off them from the first time we see them on the page together, and it’s easy to see that they won’t fizzle out any time soon. I’ve very curious to see what’s next for the Council.
The Vixen's Bark
After meeting them in the previous story, I knew immediately that I wanted to know more about Arabella and Bjorn. I loved the thought that their feelings for each other were too powerful to fight – so powerful that they couldn’t actually be hidden. I also particularly enjoyed seeing the way Bjorn works so hard to make all of Ari’s hopes and dreams come true. The peak into their future was the perfect way to end this, but there are a couple of plot threads that didn’t get tied off that I’m hoping we’ll pick back up in the next book.
The Necromancer's Prey
Just like I was hoping, this book answered the questions I was still left wondering about at the end of the previous one. It also introduces us to all the peculiarities and idiosyncrasies of necromantic magic and how it differs from what other paranormals are able to do. I loved Alden and Rory as a pair. They were so delightfully awkward at first, and that tickled my own geeky, awkward heart. With every new piece of information we learn about this world, I want to learn even more.
The Vampire's Bite
Oh my gosh. These two were adorable together, even though they did their best to try and break my heart. Eden’s lived her entire existence believing that what she’s suddenly faced with was impossible, so I’m not surprised that she found it a little difficult to accept. But Tony’s just so sweet and supportive. I want to keep him for my very own. Mind you, this book introduces some interesting vampire politics that I badly want to know more about.
The Witch's Stripes
I loved the chemistry between Luke and Dana, and I’m fascinated with how the mate bond manifests so differently between the different pairs of supernatural species. And, while this book gives me a few more clues to the overall story, I was left feeling more than ever like I was missing something. There are definitely other books that take place outside this direct Council storyline that impact what goes on here that I need to go find.
I received a complimentary copy of this book through Booksprout as part of the box set.

The Dryad's Pawprint
This is the first book in the new series Paranormal Council and it is a wonderful start. Full of imagination from interesting characters to a stable world building. Kem and Lia's story unfolds nicely from start to finish and we can see just how strong a true mate bond is. If you are looking for a easy one sitting read then this is the book for you

The Vixen's Bark
This is the second book in the Paranormal Council series and focuses on Arabella and Bjorn, and is just as enjoyable as the first. What could be better than forbidden love and a man who works to make his mate happy no matter what. If you are looking for a easy one sitting read then this is the book for you.

The Necromancer's Prey
This is the third book in the Paranormal Council series and focuses on Rory (Aurora) and Alden, and is just as enjoyable as the first two books in the series. I liked the twist to the Necromancer theme that was put into place, it shows that you can not judge everyone based off of labels.

The Vampire's Bite

This is the fourth book in the Paranormal Council series and we get to see some of the other characters from the other books in the series. We met Tony kinda in one of the spin off books where we see Eden take care of the vampire Todd. With Eden having to face the consequences of her actions that night and saving Tony from the death Todd would have left, she ends up finding out that true mates really do exist.

The Witch's Stripes
This is the fifth book in the Paranormal Council series and boy oh boy I hope that there will be more to this series. I love all the characters in the series and hope that eventually there will be something about the kids from the couples. There were a few scenes that were quite funny. Even though this is a quick read it is well worth it.

These five books were very entertaining when I was looking for a quick read. Each book was pretty short, but I was entertained with each one. They each focused on a different couple, with some interweaving of characters between books. I felt that the stories all had their own individual taste to them, which was helped with them being about different paranormal beings, from witches to shifters, dryads to necromancers. I had a few sticky points where I felt as though maybe there should have been a book between the fourth and fifth of the series, as there were some characters and events that were introduced as if you should know about them, but they were not included anywhere. Maybe a parallel series that I need to go looking for has them! Either way, I was happy to read all five books and was very entertained the whole time. If you are a fan of the paranormal romance genre, pick up this series for some entertaining reading.

Amazing Stories about paranormal Council

The first story, The Dryads Paw print, I did a review of all ready.

The Vixen's Bark-- two of the council members arm mates, a fox and a bear. But mates cannot serve on the council.

The Necromancer's Prey-- ore black magic users that uses blood to make their magic. Can a owl shifter and a necromancer be mates?

The Vampires Bite-- a vampire and some witches are bent on destroying a feral vampire. But a human is drawn to their battle and is deathly injured. The vampire saves him and realizes that he is her mate.

The Tiger's Stripes-- a witch is a photographer that is taking both shifters as human and as an animal pictures. He is fascinated by a tiger and realizes she is his mate.

All of the stores are about characters who serve on the Paranormal Council of which there are five members. All the characters are fascinating, sexy, and relatable. Their personalities gives depth to the characters. The plot it's different for each story.

Highly recommended for a must, enjoyable read.

The entire boxset is well-written and fun to read. I liked while each story is a standalone, there is a crossover of all the characters in the book.

**The Dryad's Pawprint**
What happen you meet your mate a year ago but don't know it?? Kem finds out first while being order to create an alliance.
This is a cute and fast read.

**The Vixen's Bark**
Foxes and a Bear coming together for one common interest.
This is a fun and playful read.

**The Necromancy's Prey**
What happens when your mate is your the same species as your enemy?
Alden and Rory have interesting dynamic between them.

**The Vampire's Bite**
Tony and Eden's story starts strong and has a lot of history behind Eden's character. There are many secrets including one that is 250 years old.

**The Witch's Stripes**
This book has the most action compared to the other books in the boxset. This had some mystery and was a lot of fun to read.
I received an advanced copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an unbiased , honest review.

Reading and reviewing this entire series – I really enjoy this author and her various works.
I really like how the various characters interact with each other throughout.

The Dryad’s Pawprint #1:
Sweet & Steamy Shifter Saga
Imagine meeting your beloved, only to walk away the next day. Oh, and then find out there’s an arranged marriage already in the works!

The Vixen’s Bark #2:
Time to change those outdated policies
Keeping Council members impartial by not allowing married couples is one thing; it’s quite another to disallow married females but not males.

The Necromancer's Prey #3:
A matter of Life or Death (magic)
Oh, the questions shifters from various types ask when figuring out their mate bonds!

The Vampire's Bite #4
What an opening chapter – and that last line!
This old vampire has a lot to learn from the young ‘uns of her new acquaintance.

The Witch's Stripes #5
Photographing wild beasts that turn human…
Readers are even treated to a wee cat fight over a guy.

The Dryad’s Pawprint is about Kem and Lia and is an interesting story of paranormals and matings between the different types.
The Vixen’s Bark is about Ari, a fox and Bjorn, a bear and some of the paranormal “politics”.
The Necromancer's Prey is Rory and Alden’s story and is another step into paranormal “laws”.
The Vampire's Bite is about Eden and Tony and Eden’s secret. This story takes another step into the politics and how they are making them better
The Witch’s Stripe is Luke and Dana’s story. Luke is a witch and Dana is a tiger shifter.
All these stories tie into each other as you read through them. The first and fourth tie into two other stories by the author but it is not necessary to read them to enjoy this collection.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.

When the witch in the paranormal council of 7 feels that her end is near, she "curses" her fellow council members to find their fated mates. As they are all "immortals" and lived for thousands of years, this seems hightly unlikely and none takes it seriously. But, one by one, they do find their fated mates.
In this boxed set you can find the first five stories of the council. The stories could be mostly read intdependently, but they make more sense and more fun to read them in order.
Despite a similar topic - all immortals find a different kind of happiness and very unlikely mates. The way to each one's happy end is difficult, but enormous fun to read and highly entertainin g.

The Paranormal Council series creates a magical world of council members and the discovery of their true mates. Each story can be read as standalone but better in order. Witches, Shifters, and Vampires OH MY! This is my second time reading a series by Laura and pleased to have had an opportunity to read this collection of stories she created.
If you are seeking a fast paced HEA PNR, this is the one for you.

Dang, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this series or not - is fantastic! I thought the character were great and the stories were good, in my opinion they were to short, just as I was getting into the book, it seemed to end! Just made me want more. I'm hoping that book 6 will come out so that I can see how the couples are doing! No cliffhangers and all have a HEA.

This is a great way to read all 5 books at once by Laura Greenwood. It deals with different members of the paranormal council and how they met their mates.
There are different types of paranormals in this story from dryads
to vampires, necromancers and of course shifters of various types of animals.
It does have a bit of suspense also as they deal with issues and other creatures.
Overall a great addition to the series.

5 short stories, I enjoyed the stories but they left a lot of questions. If you like quick short reads these are for you.
If you like your stories to be complet in depth stories then these are not for you.
While each story is a love story and has a hoa, they are short stories and can only give so much info. They do have great characters and I would love to see a complete in depth book.

I loved all of the magical and paranormal creatures and happenings in this boxed set! When different paranormals are mated this makes for one intriguing and fast paced collection of stories. Whatever your favorites happen to be, this is sure to captivate and thrill you. No other writes quite like Ms. Greenwood! She takes the mythys and throws them out the window and then does exactly as she wishes! And... the result is her own personal brand of magic! 💕💕💕

Each book in the set is a fast paranormal romance story. They do each connect but can be easily read separately. Each story centers around one couple who discover that they are mates. Some know right away where others need a push. There is always some danger for the to take care that also pulls them closer. So action, adventure and romance are what you can expect. The scenes are pretty mild.

I've read and rated/reviewed each of the short stories. Collectively I think I'm being a little generous affording it 2 stars but there was one of the 5 that I did find mildly entertaining.
