The Baxter family once ran airboat tours in the Florida Everglades; life was simple and good. Everything changed with the black rain. It tainted the Earth, setting in motion a true zombie apocalypse. Most dogs died after the pitch fell from the sky. So did the alligators and crocodiles, but the ancient reptiles did not rest for long. Instead, they awoke hungry, falling in to feed beside the hordes of reanimated humanity. Now Cole Baxter, his sister, Lilly, and Dr. Georgina Lake are avoiding the predators on shore, instead traveling on a small yacht off the coast of Florida. Their only hope is to follow the voice of Micky Rode, a former classic rock disc jockey. They’ve suffered losses and have seen terrible, impossible things. Rode’s plan is to gather survivors in Lebanon Kansas, before embarking on a search for the chief of the Henomawi Tribe, Climbing Fox Wattana. They must force him to reverse the curse he claims to have set in motion. Hundreds of miles of dangerous ocean and unprotected roadways lay before CB and his family and friends on their journey to Kansas. The trip will be treacherous; the outcome, uncertain. No matter. To find out if Rode’s plan stands a chance, they must get there first. Alive.
So, if you have read the first book in this series, Onslaught, you know how the shtf and what our characters are up to and where they are heading. If you haven’t read it yet then just stop reading this review, go get the book and read it! You won’t be sorry…I promise you! Then either come back and read this or go and buy Convergence! OK…Our friends are traveling to Lebanon…Kansas…not Beirut, to meet up with Mickey Rodes, a disc jockey who is asking anyone who hears his broadcast to head out that way to meet up. Lebanon, Kansas is the geographical center of the 48 states, which makes it the perfect place to have everyone meet. So this part of the story sort of centers on our main group of characters with Cole or CB to his friends, leading the group out that way. The safest way for them to travel at this point is by boat and they do have their choice of them since most of the population is either dead or among the walking dead. New characters are added along the way and for the most part some are likeable and one or two leave something to be desired. You’ll see what I mean when you read the story. I have to say that I really enjoyed book two almost as much as book one. NOT that there is anything wrong with this one, it’s just that little something about book one that I liked a little better. It could just be that it was the first book in the series with everything going down and getting to know all the players in this story but it is more dear to my heart than this one. Any whooo…I definitely am loving this series. The characters are written with personalities that you just have to like. They seem like old friends to me now and I can’t wait to see what happens to them in the next book. Yep, I’m already looking forward to that! As with the first book, I do recommend this one to anyone who really loves a great zombie story with a different twist on the beginning of the zombie apocalypse and also has a few twists in the story. I didn’t see them coming but you might. Thanks once again Damon Novak for another exciting story with some of my favorite characters!
An extraordinary story with a great cast of characters. Follow the continuing story of our group as a scape the zombie apocalypse from Key West Florida or book one ended. They make their way to your next destination fighting zombies all the way. Meet new characters and see them interact with people they meet along the way. Get a few more points of view from different character groups that are involved in the story. And exciting read. One suggestion I would like to pass on to the author, get to writing Book 3 I cannot wait to start reading it. Also make sure you add a scene where Nikosi gets to kill a few zombies
If anyone was surprised by Damon Novel's debut novel, this book will prove this guy can write. The action ramps up in this book and the characters that we care about are growing closer and surviving the best they can. I'm really looking forward to the next book.
I love this book as much as the first. Well done! Fast paced from beginning to end, well written with strong characters. We follow Clay Baxter and his group escape out of key West heading for Lebanon, Kansas to find the Medicine Man responsible for the black rain. Along the journey old and new friends are found. Experience the journey to buy this book
This book picks up where book one stopped i didn't think anything could top book one,I was wrong book two is awesome!!the survivors are on the trail of Mickey the classic rock dj and hope to join his convey in time.there are all sorts of wicked nasty things along the way. This is how a zombie book should be written.can't waite for book three..
Book two picks up with our survivors taking to the water to avoid the dead. They have to adapt to a new set of perils with the water travel. With Characters that are interesting and quirky this book holds your attention throughout. I highly recommend this book for fans of the zompoc genre. I look forward to reading new releases from this series.
Part 3 won't be released until 2019. I am often times horrible at leaving reviews, even when I have liked a book. I love the characters in the story. It moves at a quick pace and he keeps the characters interesting and diverse. Great read!
The second book in the series does not disappoint! Mr. Novak brings fresh characters, a unique story line, and some sharp writing! A zombie apocalypse that is decidedly different. Love the series and can't wait for more!
Although the cover is a bit misleading, this is a really good follow up. Zombie gaiters don't really feature but the story delivers on so many other levels it's not an issue.
