Local villagers whisper of a mysterious place deep in the marsh - a place shrouded in mist and dotted with barrow mounds, ruined columns, and standing stones. The tomb-robbers who explore beneath the mounds - or rather the few who return - tell tales of labyrinthine passages, magnificent grave goods, and terrifying creatures waiting in the dark. Are you brave (or foolish) enough to enter the Barrowmaze?
Barrowmaze Complete (BMC) is a classic old school megadungeon for use with Labyrinth LordTM and other fantasy role-playing games. BMC includes everything in Barrowmaze I and II in the same book in addition to new material, art, layout, and cover art by Ex-TSR artist Erol Otus.
Barrowmaze Complete will keep your players on their toes and your campaign going strong.
BMC is brought to you by the Old School Renaissance (so don’t forget your 10’ pole).
This edition includes art by the aforementioned TSR artists Erol Otus, as well as Tim Truman, Jim Holloway. New old-school artists include Peter Pagano, Cory Hamel, Stefan Poag, Zhu Bajie, Stephan Thompson, and others
This was a nostalgic ride of role-playing gaming from years past. The art, layout, mechanics and story are very much like that you would find in some of the original Dungeons & Dragons modules. There are traps and encounters where players will have to think and investigate to ensure success, as kicking in the door and rushing in will likely result in character death. Those not familiar with this style of play may become frustrated or turned off (yes, there are “save or die” mechanics here).
You get quite a bit with this product. There is a setting included, with a pantheon of gods, maps of the Barrowmaze and the immediate area, summaries of the various settlements and their notable personalities, quest hooks, a bestiary of new monsters, random tables to create and stock dungeon rooms and of course the mega-dungeon description of the Barrowmaze. For what the Barrowmaze is trying to do (present a mega-dungeon), it does so very well and would be a great experience for those looking for this type of adventure campaign.
Great old school dungeon haven't run it yet for my players but the author goes in detail of the surrounding region and provides a ton of great encounters.
