Powder Burn

Rate this book
It is almost two years since Lacklan walker, veteran Captain with the British SAS, helped Carmen Vazquez escape from the clutches of the Sinaloa Cartel in Arizona. He never expected to hear from her again, and he certainly never expected to hear from her brother. So when Lacklan receives a text message claiming to be from Charlie Vazquez, saying that he is in New York, that his life is in danger and that he needs help, Lacklan is intrigued, to say the least.

But when Lacklan gets to New York, the mystery only deepens - and the more he investigates, the deeper it gets. Charlie has vanished without a trace, and so have his closest friends: Zack the mathematical genius whose brain works with the speed of a computer, Bran whose memory is beyond photographic, and Hans and Hattie, whose powers of empathy and analysis seem almost supernatural.

Who are they? Where have they gone? And what have they done with Charlie Vazquez…?

And then again, who is Dr Olga Lucia Salcedo - The extraordinarily beautiful lecturer at Columbia university, whose relationship with Charlie seems to have been more than just mere mentoring…?

The killings were more a crime than the actual murders. Young very bright we’re killed.
Why? Lacklan faced the killers.

Lacklan Walker dismantled the Omega group in the last novel, killing who he thought was the leader of the secret organization. The action gave him no satisfaction. So game over. Series done. However, with "Powder Burn," the eighth in the series, writer Blake Banner has more to say. In fact, he's crafted with this latest novel, a murder mystery. A brother of a woman Walker once helped seeks his assistance. But with anything Walker does, it's hardly simple. The cry for help isn't straightforward. The guy disappeared. Walker has to track down the threat and convince others as well as himself that there is indeed a problem. The best part of the novel is reading how Banner, through his protagonist, sorts through all the clues to discover the source of the issue. There's a group of people who have become extremely smart, but they're dying. Some group is after them but is making it look accidental. Everybody is a suspect. Walker takes each unrelated clue and tries to put together what's going on. He's got his suspects, but nothing adds up. This turned out to be one of my favorite. Good writer at his best.

Powder Burn. Blake Banner

Scientists are developing drugs that can alter a person's intelligence. Their are side effects on some of the human trials. But these people are expendable. A message for help has been sent to Lacklan Walker. He's being set up by Omega, a group of extremely powerful people whose primary American leaders he has eliminated . In all likelihood their leader survived, his half brother. Extremely fast paced thriller. Enjoyed immensely!

Powder Burn

An amazing story. What we as humans do to each other is truly ugly sometimes. Although the main character in this series is a proclaimed assassin, he is still human. He has a family he loves dearly. He enjoys spending time with his wife and her children. Yet, he simply can NOT let those persons out there who are intent on destroying the world as we know and enjoy it live another minute.

Too much blood and guts

I liked the story line but not the fact that he went around killing people that he decided needed killing. At the same time he was furious that they had wasted four young lives . It didn't work for me.

Never overestimate a bad actor...

When I began reading this story, I was finding it a little pedestrian. I have since revised that opinion to realize there is a different tempo this time. Read on.....

Another excellent book. Is Omega dead or alive? From beginning to end, you will be wondering, what is going to happen next? Lacklan is back and surprises are in store. Please keep up the great work.
