It's been four years since Maggie's venture into the Netherworld, and Dark Root is thriving. But there are shadows moving in, and ominous signs in the tea leaves. Old spirits rise up to tell their stories, and new residents arrive. Who is friend and who is foe? There may be peace in Dark Root, but peace was never meant to last.
Magick. Mischief. Mayhem. Maggie.
This is the spin-off series for The Daughters of Dark Root series. This series can be read alone, but contains spoilers from the previous series.
April Aasheim is the second oldest of six children. She spent her early years traveling the western part of the country with her mother and step-father. During this time she met a lot of interesting people and developed a love of 'characters'.
April is married and lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and her cat Boots.
The latest installment of the Dark Root saga doesn't disappoint. Following the children and the Maddock sisters is always entertaining, and this story has only added to their incredible tale. Going further into the realm of magick, Aasheim continues to find new ways to captivate the reader and manages to keep the story fresh.
I gave this book 3 stars because I still have some issues with Maggie. She is still scared of everything. Even after visiting the Netherworld and returning home she acts like a young witch still. And why are the men always absent for most of the books. The women seem to be weak and uncertain without them. These sisters should be stronger if they're going to be raising the next generation. I hope the next book is better.
Wow, I couldn't put it down! From beginning to end, the story grabs you and pulls you right into Dark Root, along side the sisters caught up in another spine-chilling, life changing mystery! I can't wait to see how these children grow and progress throughout this series!
I absolutely love this series. I've read the original dark root books and now the spinoff. It was a bit of a slow start but once it got going, it went and didn't stop. I was reading every chance I got. Creepy dolls and strange mirrors, not to mention more ghosts and a strange new neighbor. Definitely worth the read, I can't wait for the second book.
I love this Author and this series. We are introduced to the third generation of witches in this book. Will the new generation learn to control their powers? Will Armand's grandson inherit his dark side? See how the one shared value of the Dark Root sisters works to fight the coming clouds of darkness. Of course, it's all a matter of family. Don't miss the latest adventures!
Not for me. A family of women that are suppose to be strong and witches as well and all they do is fall apart when something happens, whine about missing their men or put on old lip gloss when one of their crushes pops up. And so many things are started and just left. I know there is a second book but I will not waste my time reading it.
I was so excited for this spin off to come out. It was a huge disappointment. Did not like the ending. The son should have been explained to that he could of killed his sister..
It was so good to get everyone’s perspective of what’s going on and all the new characters added to the excitement of Dark Root. Maggie is definitely going to have her hands full with Montana and now that all the children are together let the magic begin 😁 bring on book 2!
A good read and it's nice to see maggie and Shane again along with the rest of the family. It will be great to see where the kids take things forward with the rest of the adults.
Another awesome book by April Aasheim. Luna is a fascinating character and Montana is just as interesting. I am so ready for Nova to bring amazing surprises as Eve and Paul figure out their life at Dark Root...or if there is one together. Good stuff!
I have enjoyed this series and I am excited for more to come. Well written Carrie's you on a journey with a fast of amazing characters. Magic the balance between light and dark. The strong fearless women of Dark Root
I wish the next book was out already. Just finished the first children of darkroot book and can not wait for the next one. I need more Maggie and Juliana in my life.
I enjoyed the book and the storyline. The kids brought new problems and more fun. Not every mystery is resolved but now it is waiting for the next in the series. I really do hope in the next one that Paul and Shane are present through the whole book.
Another 5 star rating!! Loved the story line and having the children added brought more than expected to the story. Can't wait to read the next in the series.
A spooky start to this next series set in Dark Root. Old memories and ghosts coming back to haunt and the children using their powers before they've learnt right from wrong make this a wonderfully creepy book.
We get a glimpse of what life with gifted children would be like. It's difficult to explain to a 4 year old, why magic is so very, very dangerous, without either scaring them out of their wits, or awakening their own innate ability, without the ability to comprehend their actions.
I loved this first book of the conclusion to Dark Root. It was a wonderful journey with all of the old crew and their kids. I can't wait to see where they take the story in book 2.
This book continues with the Dark Root series, focusing a lot on the children. The book seems to be setting up for more stories about this younger generation as they learn more about their already strong powers and the history of their family.
As always April Aasheim wrote a page turner, I couldn't put this book down. The characters are so real, and having read the Dark Root series, so familiar. Worth reading.
This story starts to focus on the children. Interesting start, but there’s much more to go. I still hope there’s more to tell about Maggie and her sisters.
Not really about the children as they're toddlers still. Just an extension of Maggie and Dark Root's story. Not a lot happens compared to previous series finale.
Their magic must be TRULY great if Aunt Dora can get tropical nut TREES [book states NUTMEG] to grow in a raised bed with rosemary and thyme! SOMEBODY needs a new researcher [new proofreader would help also].
Very entertaining series, made more intense with the children as the focus. It's tough to be parenting precocious witchy kids and saving the town (world?) too. Well done!
