I'm not going to lie. This didn't hit me the same way that the first volume did. It was still a great read but just not as impactful as the first volume.

There were definitely some high stakes in this next volume as the characters attempt to create gunpowder. Of course, with the introduction of gunpowder things get more serious. The trio is still attempting to make sure that they can stop Tsukasa from his sick plan to select who should and should not live in this new world. The most enjoyable aspect of this for me as a reader is definitely learning more about Senku's origin. In the first volume we just see him appear whereas in this volume we get to see everything that he had to do before his friends officially "woke" up. The ending was extremely intriguing. A new character is introduced that seems to be able to match Tsukasa in fighting ability; however, their origin is quite sketchy. It definitely was an epic ending. I'm still on the fence if I want to continue collecting this series. I may just read them from the library first and then see how I feel.

This was really good woah!

So it starts with them fleeing from Tsukasa after learning what he can do and his motives and its scary and just paints him as this dangerous villain and then eeing his rawness and what he does to Senku and a flashback to the past of Senku and his growing up and making friends with the power of science and all and its epic and I love it, the whole thing explain there just made me love him more and how they bring him back and what they plan next and Senku discovering some other people maybe too? Its getting super interesting, the pace is good, you get to learn something new every volume and the big mystery is still there and makes for an amazing read plus the art gets so much better and I love the over-exaggerated expressions, its so funny lol!

Dr. Stone keeps up the fun with this volume where we get a murder, multiple new inventions, and a new character!

Senku has finally made the weapon to take down Tsukasa. Gun Powder! But will he even be able to wield it correctly to stop the "creator of the new world" and his vision? On top of that we have a new girl thrown into the mix and this one...might not be from the past? Born into this world perhaps! On top of that she's able to go toe to toe with Tsukasa? What is happening in this crazy ass volume of Dr. Stone!?

Just as fun as the last volume. The trio make a fun team as Senku, Taiju and Yuzuriha all have great chemistry and all contribute to the group. I also enjoyed watching Tsukasa and Senku race to who can stop who first. The new girl introduced is pretty badass and cute, so I can't wait to see where that goes. All the intrigue of if there are people alive and living before Senku and how is great. I'm hoping this series continues to be a pleasure to read.

A 4 out of 5.

Damn that quiz show rotted my brain! I was crying earlier when I took a break after Tsukasa did what he did to Senku, and the freaking flashback. Gosh, I love this volume so much! And the Senku and Tsukasa what-ifs squeezed the life out of me. Man, I was so fricken emotional! BUT THE DAMN MONKEYS MADE ME LAUGH SO HARD I DUNNO HOW TO EXPLAIN IT ANYMORE.

By the way, I love how Senku turned out here. Back in volume 1, we didn't get much of his piece of mind in terms of Taiju and Yuzuriha.

Admit it or not, he only referred to Taiju as the labor force and the brawn to his brains (yes, which is offending, I know, but I wouldn't hold it against Senku.) But this volume lets us see a broader view of Senku as a human being and a friend. And I just love this cutie. I hope other people give him a chance too.

If they don't—augh, they just got to shut their fricken mouths because this kid opposes to murder or suicide and any kind. He'll choose to save us all over and over again. He'll find a way. And that's commendable. If you don't see that, get out of here.

Tutto il flashback legato al risveglio di Senku mi è piaciuto tantissimo, stupendo davvero.

Tsukasa and Senku have the worst debates ever. I want to revive an army of young people, so I will kill the only one who can revive them! Knowing things is oppressive and bad! I will become a dictator rather than let people be adults! I am the evil Peter Pan! Oh but no it is I who will science the science things together one billion per cent of the millimetres as I go to space and use smartphones with science because the world must be a science world! We must give up science! We must not give up science! Let us commit genocide on every human being!

Blah blah blah.

Halfway through this volume you know that the story isn't working and it shifts direction radically. Throw us back to some weird flashbacks, separate our characters a bit, and try to do something new. At least that's something! And there's a good (inevitable) new thing at the end.

But I laugh my ass off at how Senku and Tsukasa, two teenagers, look like grown ass adults staring at each other and the next panel is Yuziruiha looking like someone drew over a "how to draw anime girls" book you would get from the Scholastic Book Fair. Dr. Stone does not have a great cast of characters, but I would almost shudder to think of them adding more women if this is what they're going to do with them.

Still don’t like this manga. The first volume was worse, but this one isn’t much better. I just hate the clunky writing. Senku continues to use his catch phrases waaaayyy too much, sometimes multiple times on one page (ten billion percent certain, not even a millimeter, get excited), and they are all annoying. The science angle is... sort of interesting... but the attempt to use real science in the middle of a story featuring Tarzan boy who can cut down a healthy tree with one swipe of a spear made from rock really mixes poorly. Plus the weird idea that the heroes can only get the ingredients for gunpowder from one place.

The art is often gorgeous, though I am not a huge fan of the character designs, and I just can’t get past the stupid story. Too bad.

Senku manages to make gun powder and, in the process, finds evidence that there may be other humans besides himself, Tsukasa, Taiju, and Yuzuriha around. Unfortunately, Tsukasa tracks Senku and the others down before there's any time to investigate, and Senku is faced with several impossible choices. This volume also features an extended flashback to Senku's childhood, as well as the period of time when Senku was first revived and had to do things on his own.

As in the first volume, considerably less time is spent on the work and process behind things like making clothing (there's a brief mention of Senku chewing hide as part of the tanning process). Pulleys and stone tools are also covered fairly quickly, but those portions still felt more complete to me than than the two panels worth of clothing-making. (I'm willing to forgive Senku's unlikely leaf skirt, for the poor artist's sake.) And of course gun powder got several pages - the stuff that goes boom is always more exciting, I guess.

This series hasn't really won me over yet, but I'm intrigued by some of the things that were brought up in this volume. After I read the first volume, I had lots of questions about the premise, and some of them were addressed here. For example, Senku confirmed that only humans and sparrows were petrified, which explains why so many other animals are just fine, although it still leaves us (and Senku) with the question of what caused the petrification and why only those two groups of beings were affected. I'm really curious about all of that, and it sounds like the author might eventually allow the characters to figure those things out, so I'm tempted to continue reading for that reason. It's just going to be a little more difficult from here on out, because I've now finished all the volumes my library owns.

The discovery that there are other humans in the area is also intriguing, and I'd like to know the specifics of whatever plan Senku sent Yuzuriha off to take care of.

Extras:

A few Q&A pages.

This volume was definitely better than the last one but I’m still unsure about this series. It seems interesting enough but i don’t know if I want to buy it or not. I’m gonna give this one more volume before I decide what I want to do. If it only gets better from here then I’ll buy it but if it stays the same quality I might just stick to the library for this one. I LOVE the art style tho. Especially how Boichi draws faces. Amazing.

Feels like I am reading a finale 😆😄📚. I love this volume! It is exhilarating, and it opens me up to the mind of the characters! Not all is black-and-white in this manga. There are grey areas left unexplored!

February 5 - reread it cause it was THAT good!!! 😄📖

March 21-22 - re-read Volume 2 and I discovered some things I didn't discover in the first to reads 📖; the characters still draw me in for some reason 😊

Story 5,0/5
Emotionen 3,4/5
Charaktere 5+/5
Spannung/Unterhaltung 4,6/5
Zeichenstil 5,0/5
Lesegefühl 5,0/5
Gesamt 4,6/5

I mean, who REALLY thought that the main character was going to kick the bucket this early into the series?
Maybe as a weekly comic tactic to build tension it would work, but looking at the library shelf, there were at least 5 more volumes to go.
...
lol, a "breaking of the fellowship" already? Again, it's so early in the series, but I guess that's what people thought when Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli went off to find Merry & Pippin shortly before the end of the first book.

Just as fun as the last volume. Now, it's a race between Senku and Tsukasa to outwit the other. The new girl 'Kohaku' seems like a good addition story-wise. Can't wait to know more about her!

Still really good so far. Absolutely love how Senku’s drawn, like every panel with him is basically perfect no matter if he’s handsome man or goofy little character. Tsukasa thing with his imaginary memories is fucked up wish it were real goddamn it.

Dans la poursuite du premier tome tout en incluant des passages qui apportent un approfondissement des personnages. Une dualité se forme, cela reste caricaturale mais j'ai bon espoir que celle-ci se nuance un peu.
