It's completely impossible to ignore the fantastic weaving of narratives that Sunanda J. Chatterjee works with in this astonishing and refreshing novel 'The Vision'. Every page and every chapter uncovers a new depth to her writing, and the characters that she creates lovingly and yet with an author's eye: they aren't perfect, and as a reader there are no demands on me to absolutely love every single character. Indeed, some of their actions go directly against that as spirituality and science collide, both in the main character of Divya and in the circumstances that she finds herself in. This is definitely a novel that needs to come accompanied with tissues, however, because it really doesn't let up, especially in the latter stages. I fell in love with this book, and I found myself completely captivated by it. I would heartily recommend this book.

The Vision is a fast-paced story based on spirituality, romance, and medicine (pathology). I felt Sunanda, the author who herself is a pathologist has shared her professional knowledge and personal experience through this book which makes a reader appreciate the profession even more.

Coming back to the story, The Vision is an awesome and intriguing read, especially if you know medicine and pathology and believe in spirituality and Karma. Error-free writing, detailed characterization, makes this book a must-read.

Great premise, but a disappointing read. I enjoyed the exploration of the medical field, though her interpersonal problem solving skills are somewhat lacking. Her "powers" are somewhat annoying and the spiritual aspect derails the story for me.

Disclaimer: A copy of this book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

There are certain books that provoke emotions—not all of them joyful or pleasing, even—but it is in the ability to evoke them that one knows the author has succeeded in telling the story.

That is true for this book. From the start, “The Vision” is a roller coaster ride of emotions; some good, some bad, some horrifying, but all genuine. It is in THAT, that I find the author, Sunanda J. Chatterjee, has done her job well. Not all books are meant to be agreed with, but all books are meant to stir up thoughts, arouse contemplation, awaken sentiments and speculations. Kudos, Dr. Chatterjee!

Now, before I go any further with my thoughts, please allow me to speak a bit on the premise.

Divya is an Indian woman that has moved to Los Angeles in the pursuit of her Doctrine in Pathology. Led there by a tragic event, Divya is adamant in becoming all that she’s ever dreamed of. And no matter what the circumstance, she intends on overcoming and achieving her dream.

In India, Divya leaves behind bad memories, love lost, family and tragedy, as well as the comforts of home—a complex melting pot a human emotion, indubitable woes, and the ramifications of our choices. One of them, her ex-fiance, Krish. The love of Divya’s life.

Here, in the United States, Divya makes new friends, and takes to life easily, albeit pushing aside all leisurely things in order to actualize her feat.

However, while a woman who is a firm believer in science, Divya beings to experience unexplained things. Things that have no rhyme, reason, or logic within the realms of science. Yet, she ignores them and pushes forward.

Apart from having her eyes on the prize, Divya encounters an enormous surprise when Krish pops up in Los Angeles. Thus begins a whirlwind of happenstances that causes Divya to barely keep up.

Until one dreadful day. A day which propels her into another direction altogether. Divya is in a horrifying car accident. One which subsequently thrusts her into a coma. And when she awakens, her world is flipped upside down.

That is all I am going to say, as I don’t want to give the entire story away.

I will say this, however.

“The Vision” is a story FULL of layers, every one a very integral part of the narrative.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I basked in the ability to “love to hate” Krish. I felt pity for Paul, I was perplexed by the enormity of Divya’s trails. Each friend, each foe—every single character—was primal to the development of this story. The Deepaks’ were a very interesting set. Divya’s parents were great as well.

Also, I absolutely liked how clearly one could see the cultural value of India via the pages of this book. It was very beautiful and powerful.

In regards to syntax; it was predominantly impeccable. I only noticed one or two areas where there were small errors, but they were so minuscule that they had no impact on my ability to enjoy the story.

As for the end, I am at a cross roads. I won’t divulge it as I don’t want to give spoilers, but I did sort of see the book molding up to go where it went, if you will. So, I saw the end coming a ways before. Did I agree with it completely? Well, not completely, but I do understand the why so I cannot argue it.

“The Vision” is a book that is easily enjoyed, wonderfully written and highly engaging. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes reading contemporary fiction with a paranormal twist.
