April 1294. With David returned from Ireland and Anna from Avalon, the time has come to confront the traitors who sought to assassinate David and take his throne. But before that can happen, David is tested yet again by his inability to account for everything or everyone in his life-and especially the magic that surrounds him. Champions of Time takes place immediately following the events of Outpost in Time and Shades of Time, the previous books in the After Cilmeri series.
With over a million books sold to date, Sarah Woodbury is the author of more than forty novels, all set in medieval Wales. Although an anthropologist by training, and then a full-time homeschooling mom for twenty years, she began writing fiction when the stories in her head overflowed and demanded that she let them out. While her ancestry is Welsh, she only visited Wales for the first time at university. She has been in love with the country, language, and people ever since. She even convinced her husband to give all four of their children Welsh names.

I loved this book. I just can't get enough of this series. I absolutely love the characters. The contrast between the two times is great. I wasn't really surprised at the problems the modern time people are having. The ending of David's interview was a surprise but it really shouldn't have been. I am curious as to how the people react to David's plan. It is very ambitious. I am looking forward to more of this series.
This series is one of my all time most favorite. But I'm afraid it's getting just a bit long in the tooth. Still a wonderful visit with old friends, but not enough happens to make it stand out. I hape to hear myself saying that, because I love this series. But.... I'm not even sure where6 to go with that but. I still truly enjoyed the book, but I guess it was more for old times sake than any wonderful plot.
This book was as enjoyable as I knew it would be! Miss Sarah did an awesome job in bringing the story to life and was a bit sad when it ended. Looking forward to the next book! Would definitely recommend it to everyone!...
Still a great series, and in these uncertain times it's nice to disappear into a book filled with people of honor, integrity, and conscience. As always, if you like time travel this series must start with the first book. (This is #13).
Picking up almost immediately after the last book, this story finds David taking a quick breather before tracking down the latest group of traitors. Unfortunately the breather becomes botched when an assassin's bolt sends David to the present day leaving his compatriots to carry on without him while he navigates the pitfalls of the modern world.
I still really love this series. The characters are unique and progress and the history is fun. But if I had any complaints it would be that this book featured too many povs and we could really use an appendix with who all of the historical domain characters are and why they were important. I found myself digging up old college textbooks for some of this and it lessened my enjoyment.
I love this series so pre-ordered this then didn't notice when it was delivered so I've only just discovered it lurking in the cloud waiting to be downloaded. When I did realise I'd got it I was delighted. It was always going to be a great read - in fact, I believe the characters have improved over time as they are more fully developed now. There seems to be an air of finality about this story so I'm hoping it isn't the last one in the series, although I'm not quite sure where the author could take it to now. If it does turn out to be the end of the series, I shall just have to go through and read them all again - they are certainly enjoyable enough to get several more reads out of. Well done, Sarah Woodbury, for holding my attention throughout.
Yet another great one in the After Cilmeri series! Sarah continues with characters introduced in the last book but then takes them in an unexpected direction and leaves us with a bit of a cliff-hanger. I like how over the years she has introduced new characters and made them of different ethnicities, finding ways to integrate them into the alternate universe. Eagerly awaiting the next one to find out why he...........
I was going to wait until I finished the series of 20 books, but this was probably my favorite so far. This story line has everything, time travel, mystery, romance and intrigue. I am now so vested in the characters that I can’t wait to read the next one. I like that each book doesn’t end with a cliffhanger. You know the story will continue but you are also satisfied that each book has an ending. Great Read!
Fast paced, exciting and hard to put down! Champions of Time has awesome storylines for the medieval and modern side. Along with a beloved friend going to go to Avalon! David's plans and dreams are coming together nicely even though what seems to keep popping up around every corner
One of my "must buy" series. Only now I've got to go back to the beginning and read the whole lot again. Excellent as ever, mixing history and alternative history and present (slightly future) times well. The characters have all developed so much since the early books in the series, it is very enjoyable to see them grow.
Another enjoyable book. Though it sometimes gets a little tiring with the anti English sentiment, as a truly Heinz (47 varieties) English, I have ancestors from the Celts, Irish Isle of Man etc. Though like many have an aversion to the French. Probably a hangover from the Norman invasion. It is on the whole a great time romp which is thoroughly enjoyable.
After an assassination attempt David is transported to 2022 with Matthew. Chad and MI5 both want his cooperation. Meanwhile David's army learns that the Duke of Norway has arrived to assist in overtaking of England. A couple of shots at David during a live TV interview send him back in time to help his troops.
Although it was lovely to catch up with so many of the great characters in the After Cilmeri world it felt like not much happened! Yes, some bits were fun, David's TV interview!, but so much more could have been done. The ending was abrupt and I was left a bit disappointed, this almost felt like a filler before a more exciting installment to come.
For those of you who enjoy time travel this is one to read. Exciting adventures of a family of time traveling family and those loyal to them on their journey. Another triumph from Ms Woodbury. Can't wait for the next book.
Sarah masterfully leads her readers through an impossible and exciting journey to Avalon and back. This time, she added different voices and it adds perspective that makes the story more interesting. Avid reader of her stories.
I was really into this book but the abrupt ending just turned me off. I love this whole series and was not disappointed when I started reading but right off David goes to Avalon and the action sort of sputters out.
Enjoyable as ever. A few unanswered questions so I hope the next one comes soon. My only complaint is they are too short, I get through them so quickly. I think its about time to reread the whole series.
I just love this series. Its good clean fun and the characters are like family to me. Every novel is like coming home. Although I do hope the next novel in the series presents an unexpected twist. I'd like to see something a little different than has been already presented.
This series is the ONLY series of books, ever, in all my 56 years of reading, that I have read at least 4 times. And I mean all of the books in the series. 5 stars does not begin to describe how much I like this series.
DNF - I finally decided to quit the series. While I think the first five books in the series the rest just felt like rinse and repeat (like watching a CBS procedural) and feel like the storyline has no end game and it is just time to move on.
