The box has been in Panea's family for generations. Like the women before her, she has no idea what's inside, just that she has sworn to protect it. When the box is accidentally destroyed in a fire, Panea learns the truth behind her oath and like the hope from Pandora's box, Panea's box gives her something of its own.

The Box: A YA Dark Fantasy Short Story By: Kayla Krantz Narrated by: Kay Mack
This is a well written, well told short story that has an original and interesting storyline. Kayla Krantz created a fascinating and imaginative world. The lead character Panea, the protector of the mysterious box that has been passed down for generations. This story may be short but it packs a punch once that box is left unprotected. No spoilers here but some out of this world things start happening, there is a lot of drama, action, twists, mystery and suspense. The author fits a lot of story into 34 minutes, one I hope she builds on. Thank you for this great story.
I listened to the Audible edition, Kay Mack did a nice job narrating and telling the story.
This was an epic young adult paranormal short story that has me still gripping tight. Panea's family has a box they guard and now it's her responsibility. An unknown evil lives inside and cannot be let free. Panea knows her job. Then one night an accident happens that threatens all of that. But it might not have been an accident. I loved Panea. She is a strong teenager who doesn't take crap from anyone. I loved how she handled the jealous girl that wanted to boy she was seeing. But that strength might be what caused her nightmare to come true. This was a good short story but I want more. I want to know what happens now. Who is responsible? What will Panea do? I really hope there is more to come.
I found this short story a little strange and confusing at times - end ended up re-reading the second half twice just to be sure about what happened in the more action-oriented scenes. It's a really nice idea of a modern Pandora, but I just found the high school revenge twist a bit... over the top? Some typos and/or odd word choices had me a little confused too. It feels like an idea that would be really cool if it were built upon, especially with that open ending.
This is an amazing short that feels as if it should have been a lead into a much larger series of books. A story of realms, rifts and mythology mixed with everything gone wrong! It ends however with events beyond control and a feeling like it should have gone on for longer. I would love to see this expanded in the future!
I received this book for free at my request the following review is of my own. This story was definitely too short. Just as things are rolling along and you are hooked it ends. This needs to be longer must know more of what happens to the box and the creatures.
When fire destroys her home, a young woman discovers that the box that has been passed down in her family for generations is actually a portal that allows monsters to come pouring into the mundane world in this YA short story. Dark and angsty but well written and fun, in a grim sort of way.
I received this book at my request in exchange for my honest review. This is a charming, but short story. The narration is good, and it was definitley worth a listen. I would love it if Krantz took this and made it into a full book. I was left wanting to hear more.
3 Stars A interesting short story of suspense and fiction, though it did lead up to some events which I was not expecting. Pros Good story Mixture of suspense and monster fiction Cons Could of went on longer.
Audible:This was a very good short story!I enjoyed it. Kay Mack was a fine narrator. I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.
I think this would have benefited from being a little longer. There wasn't much time to build suspense or to develop the characters much. I liked it, but would have liked a little more story.
