Grey Macauley is in t-r-o-u-b-l-e. She’s new to Rustvale, but she’s already found a body in a dark alleyway -- and landed herself right in the middle of a shocking small-town murder investigation. Circumstances implicate Grey herself in the crime, and the sexy wolf shifter investigating the case isn’t fooled by Grey’s innocent good-girl facade.
Dane Sorenson is taking on the first homicide investigation Rustvale’s seen in thirty years, and the complications are piling up fast. The gorgeous girl who found the body isn’t telling him the truth, and Dane’s own mate Issac is definitely hiding something -- but Dane’s damned if he can figure out what. In the meantime, he needs answers… from his own mate, and the sexy woman he just can’t seem to leave alone.
Issac Yates has his own connection with Grey -- he found the fierce, curvy girl in an underground gambling den where they were both up to no good. A former champion wolf fighter, Issac is going to step into the ring one last time -- and Dane can’t find out. But when he meets Grey he knows instinctively that she’s the perfect woman to complete their triad… and all Issac’s carefully laid plans scatter with the wind.
Murder, lies, and lust will test their newfound connection… but will it bond them fast, or shatter them forever?
Fighting for Wolves is a standalone novella about two wolf shifters in love and the woman who completes them, complete with mystery, intrigue, and of course... a threesome with lots of SPICE!
This story starts off with a bang. Murder-mystery kind of bang. Grey finds a dead body after being at an underground poker game. So when a detective shows up to find out what happened Grey is sure that she is in big trouble.
We have met Dane before when he arrested his brother Zane. This time we get his story. He is the detective that is in charge of finding the murder. When he meets Grey his wolf knows she is his other half. But they have something more important to deal with. That dead body.
Issac is Dane's mate. He has already met Grey but Dane doesn't know this. Issac is trying to get back into the wolf fighting ring. And has yet to tell his mate. So when the underground betting ring comes to light Issac and Grey have some explaining to do on why they were both down there.
I really enjoyed this story. I am excited to see where the next book takes us.
So... ugh this was the third book in the series and I have some feelings. Honestly, I’m not sure what rating to give because there were some major flaws. Not in terms of the plot, that was fairly straightforward. But in terms of Greys character.
So here we have Dane and Isaac, a cop and accountant / wolf fighter respectively. In comes Grey who finds a dead body, the murder of whom Dane investigates. While being interrogated, it comes out that Grey was at an illegal gambling ring and since finding out about it has been there pretty much every night. All well and good. Story goes on, romance, fighting, all the good things.
It’s Grey’s gambling I have an issue with. She’s described as an addict, she’s been to rehab and her parents told her to move out of Reno or they were cutting her off. Now I think my favourite books that handles addiction is Steadfast by Sarina Bowen were one of the main characters has a drug addiction, and further in the same series, in a book called Steadfast, one of the main characters is an alcoholic. In these, we see clearly the impact these addictions have on their lives. Dealing with it every day, tiny tics, that background noise was always present. And I didn’t get that with Grey. For someone with an addiction, she was unnaturally controlled, it didn’t rule her every day life. Now, Isaac on the other hand is not addicted to fighting, but he displays more of those tics and characteristics you would see in an addict, he’s a bit more fidgety when it’s close to a fight, he needs it. We also don’t know why Grey went back to gambling. You would think there would be a trigger, something that caused her to go back to such a harmful habit, not just it was there. But it was never mentioned. And that irked me. For someone who was on the wagon, there had to be a reason she fell off.
Truthfully it was good, but the gambling thing really bugged me, and if you can look past it, it’s a 4-5 star read. But unfortunately, I can’t. It bugs me. Especially because in the authors later writing, she does better with showing how addiction effects someone’s life. And I get that it’s a novella, there’s only so much you could show, but this was something I consider important to show.
In any case I’d give it a solid 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4. I would recommend it, it is great, but I’m a bit nit picky.
Fighting For Wolves is book 3 within this author’s wolf shifter series. You will recognize police officer, wolf-shifter Dane from some earlier books, but this book is a complete standalone with a HEA and no cliffhanger.
As with her previous shifter books, Isaac and Dane are wolf shifter mates hoping to find a female to complete their triad and when they meet Grey, they know she is the one. There are MF and MMF scenes in this paranormal romantic suspense. Normally I am not into MM or MMF books, but Dakota West does such a great job creating these steamy scenes.
This is a quick, enjoyable read that has a lot going on - a murder, secrets, a hot steamy sex scene, and well developed characters. I am always amazed with how well this author really develops the characters given that the book is a novella.
I received this book as an ARC and I voluntarily leave this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was a really engaging quick read. Dane, a police officer and former fighter; Isaac, a tax accountant and secret fighter; and Grey, a kindergarten teacher and gambling addict make up this book's cast of characters. Grey stumbles across a murdered man as she leaves an illegal gaming den where she meets Isaac. Dane is the detective in charge of solving the murder. Both men feel instant chemistry for the human girl. Through several plot twists they get together for their HEA.
My one criticism is that I would have liked to see Grey's gambling addiction addressed preferably getting professional help to stop.
I volunteered to read an ARC of this book and give an honest review.
A murder in Rustvale. And because of that rare event happening in the small town, a detective and an accountant, a mated shifter pair, meet a kindergarten teacher. Although some slightly unlawful things are going on under everybodys noses, the focus is on solving the murder. Oh, before I forget, not only do they find the murderer, a pair of shifters also finds their third. HEA guaranteed!
These books are getting better and better. This story has some hot scenes in it to make you blush so keep that in mind when reading. It too is a short afternoon read, but well worth the time. I loved the bears of Shifter Country and am really warming up to the wolves of Shifter Country. I can't wait to read the next one!
This book is one I could have done without. Dane, Isaac, and Grey were fine, but I didn’t feel like their story had the substance that the others had. There was talk of addictions, but it was glossed over in a way I found completely unrealistic. I enjoyed the murder storyline more than the romance, and I don’t ever say that. I think this story needed more and it wasn’t a good one in my opinion.
I received an ARC Copy of this book and I voluntarily chose to review it. Yes, this is a quick easy read. I read it in one sitting. The story is well written. This is a ménage story and it does have some M/M action so if that isn't your type story you won't like this one. I do encourage everyone to get this book it is worth your time and effort.
Grey found a dead body. Dane, the investigator, took one look at her and knew she was the one. Isaac eventually saw her and knew also. But Isaac was gong to do something that he lied to Dane, his mate, about. He was going to fight. Read to find out how their lives go. Nice and enjoyable read
Be careful, It’s a regular wolves’ den in here. 5 GOLD PAWS
WOW!! What a HOWLING story!! I seriously don't know how Roxie does it, but boy does she ever!! I have read all of the Shifter Country books out now and every single one is PAWESOME! Every single one is FANGTASTIC! Every single one is FURRIFIC! And EVERY SINGLE ONE is unique, gasp-inducing, awe-inspiring and way beyond SHIFTACULAR!!! I love that every story is its OWN story, even if at the most basic level they are almost the same. Meaning that yes, there are two characters already mated, hoping to complete their triad someday, and yes, that does happen, but that is it! EVERY LITTLE DETAIL, FEATURE, FACT & TIDBIT that brought them to the beginning of the story, that happens throughout the story and at the end, as well as any & every thing in between is different! I love that this one was quite intense, but WOOF! My poor nerves just couldn't take much more! In fact, my poor fingers are STILL cramped and sore from gripping my tablet so hard! Thank goodness it is pretty durable and used to the abuse! :-) No matter which book of Roxie's that I have read, I have ABSO-FURRY-LUTELY LOVED each and every one! I love being able to follow her characters as they search for their mates, getting to know them as the story is told from each of their perspectives - not in first person - so you get the unique advantage of understanding all sides! But there are three main characteristics that I love in shifter books that for me, elevate it to a story worth shouting about from the rooftops, or rather in the form of my review - 1) have me live the story with the characters, or rather AS the characters, as if it is MY story - CHECK! 2) when the animal side has its own personality, influences the human side, and/or the human side effects the animal side, depending which form they are in. I always love the human being more animalistic and the animal more human - CHECK!! 3) hold me deep in the story from start to end, to the point that my world & pain falls away - CHECK, CHECK aaaand CHECK!!! I LOVE Roxie's Bears and wasn't ready to say good-bye to them, after all, they were my first, and you know what they say about that! wink wink But her Wolves! Oh her Wolves are pretty frackin FURLICIOUS!! All it takes is one story - or if you are like me, it only took one CHAPTER! - to realize just how phenomenally talented Roxie is!! But then combine that with her true gift to craft such addictive stories, and you will be as obsessed as I am with her SHIFTASTIC books no matter the shifters inside!! I hope that Roxie has plans to continue to WRITE these FURNOMENAL shifter stories for many, Many, MANY years to come, because I certainly have plans to READ & re-read them for many, Many, MANY years to come!!
I just finished reading Fighting for Wolves (Shifter Country Wolves Book 3). As with book 1 & 2 it was GREAT!! But what else could you expect from Roxie Noir?!?! I am hooked on this series! Grey a kindergarten teacher moves to Rustvale from Reno to help kick her gambling addiction. It can't be as easy to gamble here as it was in Reno.... Oh but of course, when Grey leaves an underground poker game she finds a young dead wolf-shifter boy named Nicky. Dane a wolf-shifter who's mate is Isaac is the only detective in Rustvale, the small shifter town doesn't require anything else. As Dane goes to investigate & question the only witness, he sees her and **for a split second, he felt like he was upside down in a wind tunnel, the world around him howling as he got nearly blown away, and then everything was normal again.** Grey thinks he's a **sexy tall detective with the most serious brown eyes she’d ever seen.** When Grey meets Isaac the next night **she felt a shiver go down her spine, he is hot, with slate-blue eyes, wide cheekbones, a day or two of stubble, and a nose that was just a little crooked.** Isaac met Grey when he stood up for her when she was threatened, but **he felt like he couldn’t control himself around her, like he wanted to take her in his arms, bury his face in her beautiful blond hair, feel her chest rising and falling against his own. He hadn’t felt that way about anyone in years. Not since he’d met Dane, and those feelings had been different. Just as strong, but different.** As well as tear apart anyone that threatens her. They found their female to complete their triad, will Grey feel the same way? Will Grey be accused of Nicky's murder because she's the one who found & reported it? How does it play out??? You'll have to read it to see! I gave this ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 stars!

A Gambler, A Fighter, & A Detective Make An Interesting Triad!
This is the second book in the series, but can be read as a standalone. Fighting For Wolves is a story about 2 wolves shifter / men and a new woman in town. It has love, romance, ménage, mystery, murder, and a HEA. *possible spoiler*
Grace Macauley (Grey) is new to town. She teaches kindergarten and gambles in an underground poker game. One night after leaving the poker game, Grey finds a dead body. She has a gambling problem. So finding a dead body and other reasons doesn't stop Grey from going back to or thinking about going back to the underground poker game. Grey is a good girl by day and participates in illegal activities at night.
Dane Sorenson is a detective for the Rustvale Police Department. He is a follow the rules kind of guy. Dane is now having to investigate a homicide. It is the first murder that the town has had in 30 years. Dane and Issac are both wolf shifters and mates. Issac Yates is a former champion wolf fighter. He is now an accountant, but he continues to think about fighting. Issac wants to go back into the ring one more time for the adrenaline and the money, so he says. He is too afraid to tell Dane about his decision for one last fight. Dane is still has a bad boy in him.
Grey meets Issac and Dane at different times, but feels an instant connection with both men. Issac and Dane feel that they have found their third mate. Now Dane just have to work on finding the murderer and clearing Grey's name.
My favorite scene is the one in the jailhouse / holding cell. I loved the chemistry between Grey, Dane, and Issac. I appreciated that the author made Grey character gutsy enough to go to Issac's fight. I like that Grey wanted to be there for him even though it could look bad for her.
* received this book for an unbiased review* 4 Wolf Shifter Stars!
Roxie Noir is an awesome writer who knows how to write a book and spin the web for the characters in the book. As the reader reads the book the web begins to unwound. She takes three main characters and puts them together in an unorthodox manner. In so doing this the three characters eventually realize they are meant to be together. She has yet to let me down with her writing.
Grey Macauley is a gambler at night and teacher by day. She moved to Rustvale to escape Reno and the temptation the casino's. Leaving a card game she had no idea that her night would just get worse. After finding a dead body in an ally way, she is interviewed by Dane and she doesn't fool him. He knows she is hiding something.
Dane Sorenson was introduced in "Running with Wolves" a Detective in the Rustvale's Police Department. Dane is investigating his first murder and the first ever murder in Rustvale.. The person who finds the body is Grey and Dane knows right off that she is the third for his Triad. Yet holding back his feelings while interviewing her gets hard.
Isaac Yates is a retired "wolf fighter", CPA and Dane's mate. Isaac wants to fight again, and Dane doesn't want him too because he doesn't want Isaac to get hurt. Isaac meets Grey while making the deal for his final fight in the "wolf fights" and realizes that she is the third for their Triad. He also has to figure out how to tell Dane he is going to fight again.
Murder, lies, and lust will test their newfound connection… but will it bond them fast, or shatter them forever?
Awesome book and one you must read to fill in the blanks. You will not be disappointed.
grey stumbles up on a corpse in a dark alley. the first murder in this little town in 30 years! just her luck. Dane, the towns newly promoted detective, has to keep his wolf in check when he has to interview Grey. Mine is all his beast is telling him. but he also feels Grey isn't telling him everything just as his gut tells him she's innocent. relieved to be dropped of at home, Grey has a hard time struggling with her secret addiction. should she go back or not? addiction getting the better of her, she makes her way down into the dark corners of the shop. behind locked doors she feels the familiar thrill wash over her when she's around the betting tables. only she isn't welcomed this time. though she know nothing is her fault, she kept her mouth shut about her real whereabouts the night before. things start to get hairy, that is until Isaac steps in and removes the individual making her time here hellish. later on she even gets arrested and put in a holding cell. when isaac comes in to keep her company and dane joins them, it becomes clear to her the two men know each other. which is confirmed when dane tells her they're mated. how these three will move on from everything is a big question with more drama and bad choices lurking around the corner. the start of this story reads a bit more complicated BUT it adds so much to the story when you see all the pieces falling into place. really, really loved the story, the emotion, hardship. there are quite a few time you could say : love is, taking care of each other no matter what!
FIGHTING FOR WOLVES-A thrilling romantic story filled with suspense and danger.
This story features; Grey, a sexy, curvy, beautiful school teacher; Dane and Issac, two strapping, gorgeous wolf-shifters, mates looking for the woman to complete their triad.
What you’ll find in this story; a cast of remarkable impressive and engaging characters, spectacular story-line, powerful vivid scene descriptions, fabulous banter, gripping suspense, action, gut wrenching moments, life threatening incidents, earth-shattering heart-pounding sensual romance, and a melt your heart conclusion leaving you wanting more.
Grey and Issac are keeping a secret from Dane who is investigating the murder of the young man that Grey found in the alleyway on her way home. Dane has a lot on his plate; finding the murderer, what is Issac hiding, and how can he convince Grey she is the woman that completes him and Issac.
SPECTACULAR fast paced well written read by a truly gifted author. The characters spring to life with the creative plot and vivid scene descriptions. The chemistry between Grey, Dane and Issac is filled with unwavering devotion. The suspense and mystery keep you glued to the story from start to finish. I enjoyed this story, a most gratifying read. If you treasure shifter romance this is a fabulous book for your library. {I received a copy of this book for a completely honest review}. In the world of shifter romance the possibilities are endless and always fascinating. Without reservations I recommend this book.
Grace Patience Joy Macauley (Grey) grew up in Reno, Nevada and is a compulsive gambler. She moved to Rustvale to get away from the temptation of gambling only to find an underground poker game and trouble in the form of being a murder suspect.
Detective Dane Sorenson is a “buy the book” kind of guy. He meets Grey when he is called in to investigate a murder. He knows she didn’t do it, but he also knows she’s hiding something? Isaac Yates is an adrenaline junkie. He misses the high he gets through fighting and sets up one last fight hoping his Mate, Dane, doesn’t find out. Nothing ever goes as planned.
This is the second book in the Shifter County Wolves series. I did enjoy reading it, but not as much as the first. The characters have personal problems that are mentioned, then nothing more is said. It seemed to me that when I turned the page to go to the next chapter to find out more, it just ended.
Chapter 12 the fight, chapter 13 the hot stuff, chapter 14 solve the murder and then the Epilogue. We never do get to know the “why” of the murder just the “who done it”.
The chemistry between the three of them is okay. Nothing but kissing happens until chapter 13, and that was only between the guys. I know it’s a novella, but it would have been nice if the characters could have been developed a little more.
“I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.”
i read this book as part of an arc program. In this third book in the Shifter Country Wolves series, Grey finds a dead body in the alley and Dane is called in to investigate. Grey is the new kindergarten teacher and she has secrets. When Dane first sees her he is stunned but knows the site of a murder is no place to claim his mate. Dane is the only detective on the police force and he sets out to solve the only murder he ever investigated. Dane knows Grey is innocent and he wants to see more of her. When Grey goes back to the illegal gambling room again the next night, she is accused by Shovel as bringing the cops around. Issac is at the gambling room arranging a fight for him and another wolf. Issac misses the rush of fighting and he wants a final fight. When he sees Grey being harassed, he comes to her rescue. Grey leaves and goes home, but Issac wants to tell his mate Dane he found their mate. Grey is attracted to both Dane and Issac and when she is taken in for questioning, Issac and Dane both think she is innocent and they stay with her. The three get closer and when Dane learns of Issac fighting, he is angry and doesn't want him to fight. Dane now has to worry about Issac and solve a murder while trying to convince Grey to be their mate. I love this series. This was another great one. I love how Dane and Issac supported each other and loved each other, even while angry. Grey completed their triad and i think she was great with both of them. Great one.

Grey, Issac, and Dane are giving in to all their baser needs and it couldn’t be more right. You would never suspect that mild mannered kindergarten teacher Grey Macauley with her sweet disposition and cardigans would actually be a card sharking wild woman. Leaving Reno for Rustvale was supposed to be her fresh start away from the temptation of the tables, but even in this sleepy town she has found a way to feed her addiction. Now that love of the thrill has gotten her in some hot water as she has now stumbled upon a dead body and her reticence about her reasons for being the alley to begin with has made her a very juicy suspect. Dane and Issac meet years ago and like all good mates fell head over heels at first glance even if that eye contact happened across the ring from one another. Having left that heart stopping life of teeth and adrenaline behind they have settled into their lives but can you really contain that fire that exists inside. Dane luckily has fulfillment and excitement through his police work, but Issac choose path as an accountant had him using more of his brain and less of his brawn. Fighting who you are is a fool’s errand but will being who they are lead to their downfall?
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book
Fighting for Wolves is the third book in the Shifter Country Wolves series. Grey is walking home when she stumbles across a dead body. Dane, a police detective, responds, and while he feels drawn to Grey, he knows she’s lying about something. Add in to the mix Isaac, Dane’s mate, who is also keeping a secret from Dane, and also feels a connection to Grey. With a murderer on the loose and a few too many secrets around, will Grey, Dane, and Isaac get their chance at a triad relationship, or will everything fall apart?
This has been my favorite wolf story from Ms. West so far! I loved the intrigue and drama, the growing romance, and the chemistry between Grey, Dane, and Isaac! I loved that the three of them could connect to each other in different ways, such as Grey understanding Isaac’s adrenaline need. I loved the importance of trust, communication, and support that this book portrayed. The drama and murder mystery definitely kept me turning pages and wondering who did it, and who kept accusing Grey. Over all, I loved the dynamic between the characters, the chemistry that created strong, loving emotions between them, and definitely can’t wait for the next book in the series to come out!
I love the Shifter Country Wolves books. Shifters have come out and live in territories carved out of other states. The books are for the most part loosely connected, can standalone and each has an HEA. This book is set in Cascadia, in northern California. Grey Macauley has a problem. She is a kindergarten teacher and compulsive gambler who found a dead body on her way home from The Downstairs, an illegal backroom poker operation. Dane Sorenson is the homicide detective assigned to the case. He recognizes Grey right away as a likely triad mate, but questions her about what she saw, then takes her home, planning to talk to his mate about meeting her. Isaac is an accountant, former wolf pit fighter, and Dane's mate. He meets Grey at The Downstairs where he is signing up for a "last fight". He comes to her defense when one of the poker player becomes verbally abusive toward her, also recognizing she is their likely mate. Then someone calls in a tip that Grey was the one who killed the victim. And Dane finds himself trying to stay afloat as Isaac goes into the wolf pit and Grey faces charges that could take her away from them forever.
Grey is new to shifter country. She just moved to Cascadia from Reno. Turns out Reno'so not a great place for a compulsive gambler to live. Grey's a kindergarten teacher by day and illicit gambler by night. Despite moving to Cascadia in order to quit gambling it didn't take her long to find the illegal gambling going on under the local liquor store. One night, while leaving a game, she stumbles on a dead body. Then she meets Dane, the detective assigned to the case. She has a nearly uncontrollable attraction to the handsome wolf shifter. Soon, someone claims Grey herself killed the victim. What's a girl to do? Is she going to jail for murder? How will this scandal effect her job as a kindergarten teacher?
Dane is the only detective in a town that has almost no crime. When the first murder to happen is decades occurs in Rustvale, everyone is thrown off their game. After Dane arrives on scene, he's shocked to find himself so attracted to the woman who found the body. She's his and Isaac's mate. How will he cope with the fact she's just become the number one murder suspect?
I received an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this story of a wolf shifter pair who find the girl of their dreams after a murder in their sleepy town of Rustvale. Dane is a cop and Isaac an Accountant but they had both fought in the ring against others wolves. Isaac struggles with the need to feel that adrenaline flow through his veins again. They meet Grey who is a school teacher as well as a young woman with a gambling addiction. Grey found herself in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"Every night when you go to bed, you'll close your eyes, and for a moment you'll think of how you felt in the ring. Every time you see a fight, or smell dirty dogs, or hear people cheer, you're going to want to be back in that ring, even if only for a moment."
"It's hard to give up something you love."
"Desire like liquid heat swept through grey's body, nearly making her dizzy."
This book had suspense, mystery, romance and hot shifter action. I could not put it down until I was done reading it. Excellent story by a talented young Author, Roxie Noir!
When a Roxie Noir book hits my kindle I drop what I am doing and read it right away because I know it will be good. This is the second book in the Shifter Country Wolves series but it is complete book in itself. Grey has a wee bit of trouble for a school teacher...she likes to gamble. Not only that but she happens to stumble onto a dead body right after she left an under-ground gambling place.
Now there is good in this as she meets a really HOT cop who sets her blood racing and she is not sure why. She can't stop the gambling pull and goes back the next night only to get into a shouting match with a nasty man named Shovel. Course that leads to her favor as well because she meets Isaac, a scruffy big boxer looking man. For some reason she is drawn to him as well as the cop Dane. (She doesn't know they are mates and yes you guessed it.....)
Grab this book and find out all the ins and outs and who killed who and who was doing who. Really hot book and I for one and waiting with baited breath for book 3 in this series
Grey is new in town and when she is on her way home she comes across a dead body. Dane is investigating the homicide and when things lead him back to Grey he wats to hope she isn't involved. Grey is hiding a secret she was actually coming from an illegal gambling place when she found the body but even that doesn't stop her from going back to gamble again. When Grey is implicated in the homicide she is brought in again and then Issac shows up and Grey remembers him from the game. Dane and Issac are mates and both know that Grey is their other mate. When Dane learns that Issac and fighting and gambling again it causes some problems between them. Will Dane find out that Grey isn't involved in the homicide? Will Issac and Dane work out their differences and claim Grey for their own?
This is a great story once I started I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between Issac, Grey and Dane is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this story to any book lover.
Fighting for Wolves, book three in the Shifter Country Wolves series by Roxie Noir, under the pen name Dakota West. Grace Patience Joy Macauley, aka Grey, is new to Rustvale and the kindergarten teacher at the local school when she stumbles upon the body of a local wolf shifter named Nicky in the back alley of the local liquor store. Dane Sorenson is the only detective in the small town, so when he gets a call about the first murder in Rustvale for decades, he questions Grey though he knows the girl is hiding something but he can’t figure out what. Meanwhile Dane’s mate, and former champion wolf fighter, Issac Yates, is hiding things from Dana of his own, like where he first met Grey..and that he’s getting ready to fight one last time. The pair instantly know that Grey is their key to completing their triad, but with everything happening will they be able to convince her to give them a chance? Or will the murderer be able to convince everyone that it was Grey? I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book.
Grey Macauley is a compulsive gambler. She moves from Nevada to Rustvale as a Kindergarten teacher in the hope of getting away from gambing, but she soon finds an underground poker club and one night stumbles across a dead body in the alleyway home. Detective Dane Sorenson (briefly introduced in Book 1) investigates the murder and discovers that Gery is the missing piece to his and Issac's fated mates. Issac was a fighter and misses the adrenaline rush of the matches and sets up a final bout in secret, hoping that Dane doesn't find out.
I struggled a little with this one, the characters seemed to be superficial, you don't really get to know them, lack of background story didn't help - they all have baggage but this was just skimmed over and no real details were given, very bland. It seemed to take forever for anything to happen between the three of them (they are fated mates, insta-love is a given!) and the "murder" is missing a motive....!!
Dane (Detective Sorensen) is a homicide detective in Rustvale. Grey (Grace Patience McCauley) is a kindergarten teacher who plays high-stakes poker in the back rooms of the town at night. One night on the way home she finds a dead body and meets Dane who comes to work the case and recognizes her as the third in their triad, but he holds back as she has just seen a dead body. Isaac, CPA by trade now and Dane’s mate, also plays high-stakes poker where he runs into Grey and feels the same triad attraction Dane does.
Each person had something to hide, and something to lose in both their livelihood and relationships. Can Dane solve the murderer – the first in Rustvale for 30 years? Can these three figure out how to make a relationship work? I love how Noir lets us into the head of each character, as the story and relationship develops.
