Like two peas in a pod, Melanie and Simon were practically inseparable growing up. With their parents being longtime friends, it was a natural and expected bond. Not knowing when it happened, they both developed deeper feelings, yet neither wanted to lose control by expressing any sign of emotion. In an attempt to move on from Simon and live her life Melanie joined the Marines.
Devastated by her leaving, Simon realizes exactly how much they mean to each other despite his foolish actions. Once Melanie returns home, Simon decides to plead his case even if she doesn’t want to listen. Will Simon be able to convince Melanie that she has always been the one?
Will Melanie realize that she is the only person that takes Simon out of his comfort zone that he has confined himself to for years? Losing Control is a contemporary interracial romance that takes you on a heartwarming and passionate journey where losing control is not the end of the world but the beginning.
The characters I write will not be perfect. None of us are. They will make mistakes. All of the hero's will have redeeming qualities, but on the outset, you may not be their biggest fan. My heroine's will be the kind of women you want to hang out with. They're the women next door, down the street and around the corner. They are the ladies you would want to spend time with on a Saturday night drinking a martini.
I have been an avid reader of romance novels since the age of 14 and know what appeals to me as reader. My goal is, and will always be, to provide that same experience for the women and men who read my novellas and short stories.
I’m a former Marine and served for 8 years, so strong military men will always be a favorite topic of mine. I will continue to write stories with military heroes’ front and center. I’m also a fan of Alpha-males and strong women who love with everything they have.
Okay, let me begin this by saying that I'm not exactly a R.M. fan, but I do like her novellas and stories and in no way has this story put me off of reading her books.
Now, to get to the review. As I read this dribble, I found myself extremely irritated, and then angry on a personal level. When I got to the end, I immediately felt WTF? That's It! Badly done R.M. Badly done! My reason for these thoughts will become clear as you read on. !!Possible Spoiler Alert Warning!!
The novella is a story about two best friends--that aren't really best friends in my opinion--who fall in love when younger. They're separated and estranged for six years while the heroine enlists as a Marines before they finally see each other again. The hero instantly thinks things will fall into place and they'll acclimate immediately because (to requote his b.s.) she is his... Funny that the ass does really consider that b.s. until after she leaves and that he really is hers as well to a full extent as he parades chick after chick in front of her. Hence, one of the reasons for her leaving.
The writing is decent. The story idea isn't original, but is never a bad one to read when you just want to relax with a no brainer book. It is the characters who royally upset me. I can read dribble so long as I like the characters, and I didn't like either the heroine or hero.
The Heroine: For a Marines-- a female apart of the military period, she is weak and pathetic. Crying when the hero talks to her a certain way is beyond freakin ridiculous! She did BTs and that alone is tough as... (you get the drift) Yelling and insults should either not have phased her or they should have caused her to punch the living crap out of the hero. Military women become conditioned to the tough times and are made of tougher skin than was shown. Then she accepts the most pathetic tripe from the hero's mouth. Again WTF?!!
The Hero: So, I know it is pretty normal for authors to write a hero who goes around the block and never stops, but really again! Ughhh. I'm sorely disappointed... The worst of it is that they always write it like he loves the heroine and doesn't think it is okay she sleeps around, but sleeping around is his hobby. Double D@#n Standards. And then the heroine accepts it all because this manh... tells her he loves her... Really are women that pathetically easy...? Oh, and he makes light of his sleeping around by admitting to the heroine "They meant nothing"... Ummm.... Yeah, I had so many issues with these MCs. I was completely done well before it even got started, which is when it abruptly ended.
In the end, I'm not happy with this novella, I'm disappointed I even read it, and more than that I'm disappointed R.M. wrote something like this (with what appears to be little to none research on military women--especially Marines) when she is such a good writer.
Even after swearing he had no time in his life for love or a relationship, he could not stand being without Kayla Reyes. When she abruptly left him after her best friend and Joshua Townsend 's girlfriend Chelsea Armstrong died. She felt she was disrespecting her friends memory by being in love with Josh, so she ran for seven years, staying away from the man she loved. But how fate has it, she was forced to return home for her safety. and peace of mind. She was suffering from a form of PTSD and had completely changed her mannerisms and way of life. Joshua caught on to it immediately and was on it like a dog with a bone, but his own business problems kept him from solving the mystery that Kay was hiding.
Tiffany wrote a wonderful story as always. It was full of drama suspense and mystery, let alone the hawt erotic love scenes of Josh andK kay when they finally allowed themselves to totally drop their walls. This story shows how people handle grief differently, especially when one of the grievants is in love with the other. My heart just burst with tears when Chelsea managed to make her presence known on Kay and Josh's special day. Everyone but the couple knew they would end up together. It was so funny how even Kay's parents had an on going bet about how it would go down. Kay showed Josh how to love again. He'd always loved her in more ways than one since he was twelve years old and was mad as hell when she left taking his heart with her. But he was so glad she came back so they could have their HEA, just like Chelsea knew they would.
Melanie and Simon grew up together and were besties. Along the way as they grew up their feelings changed and became more than friendly and then became love. Simon went through girlfriends like water and never realized that Melanie was always feeling overlooked and discounted. Simon expected Melanie to always be there until she wasn't and then his world got rocked on its axis. But just when it looked like it was about to be righted, Simon's woman-loving ways torpedoed things. Melanie walked away broken heart and determined to live without Simon.
The next six years Simon never saw hide nor hair of Melanie and she ceased communicating with him. He felt overlooked, forgotten and discounted. He wasn't sure what happened and when he figured it out, there was no way to make amends because Melanie never wrote or emailed him in response to his many attempts.
Finally after six years, Melanie is coming home and Simon is determined to fix things and Melanie is equally determined to keep thing where they are between them - over. But Simon is an alpha ale and that isn't going to play out very well. To find out what happens next, you will need to buy the book!
Reana did a wonderful job with this story but there were some hiccups that briefly pulled me out of the story. As a Vet, I always love to read about us getting a HEA and Reana always makes that happen.
This was a great read about second young love, second chances, and going for what you want. Melanie and Simon had always had an unbreakable bond and were inseparable best friends growing up. As they got older Melanie knew she was in love with Simon, while Simon didn't know what he was feeling. By the time he figured it out, Melanie was enlisted and moving on with her life. When these two come back together and see each other for the first time in years, they can't deny what they felt when they were younger. I wasn't sure if these two would get it together and enjoyed reading about their journey to a HEA as well as the flashbacks to their younger days. Reana did a great job on this one. I really enjoyed it!
I read this book previously as part of a box set. -------------- Simon and Melanie were friends growing up, neither admitting to the other that they harbored more than friendly feelings for one another. Stuff got real when Melanie returned home from her stint in the Marines and Simon was ready to move to the next stage of their relationship. It wasn't as easy as he'd planned. The events in the book take place in a short time frame because the couple has a back story that is revealed. This isn't insta-love. It's not unrequited. There is heat. There is love. There is conflict that gets resolved. It's not a cakewalk, but Simon does get the girl. Recommended read.
“Stop running away from me … ! “said Simon “You left me first …” said Melanie They have been best friends since they were basically toddlers, that deep love they had, became deeper in a different way,… they talked about everything except how they felt about each other. Finally she couldn’t take it anymore, watching him going through girls like is going out of style. She left and signed with the marines… something happened at the airport that made her cut all communication with him for 6 whole years. Simon didn’t handle it well… see what happened when he finally setting eyes on her after six years . !!!
A young love second chance story of twin flames, one needed to leave to grow and see if they could live without the other. The other is necessary to let the one they love to go but still held out for the hope they would return. The story reminds me of that adage "If you love someone, set them free. If they come back, they're yours." Not accurate in many cases, very right for Melaine and Simon. So much misunderstanding when they were young and did not honestly know how to express themselves and what they were feeling for each other.
Losing Control was amazing!!!! I loved the bit of history about Simon and Melanie. The storyline focused on the relationship between the two. The dynamics of the two personalities. The strength. The weakness. How they both had to lose control over some things in the past to gain control over their future. Loved it ❤️❤️❤️
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Simon and Melanie met as children and grew up together. Melanie makes a life changing decision and little does she know Simon is not too happy about it. Flash forward six years and Melanie is back. What will Simon do? Good thing the parents are behind them.
I liked that they were each other's one. It was good that they were apart to discover who they were away from each other. Melanie needed the Marines to find her joy and passion. Simon needed to grow up and see where his great love would take him. This made their reunion so much more honest. The passion signed through
