This book really appealed to me, but it tried to cram so much into such a short amount of time that it feels underwhelming because nothing is properly fleshed out and the book ended up feeling shallow.
And she does it again, a true masterpiece. Wow I hate you JT Lawrence, your stories grab me and won’t let me go right from the beginning which is a must in a short story no way to fix if it’s not done right and you mastered it, figured out the system perfectly. Yes I lied I don’t hate you, the opposite is the truth ! What a beautiful story. Michael T. Bradley have also done a perfect job narrating.
Full heartedly recommended to all !
In exchange for an honest review I’ve received this audiobook.
JT Lawrence Just writes a mind bumping & really brain searching tale. This was a great take on memory and family and what you or anybody could be called on to put themselves through for them. But! It’s not a lovely family story it’s a wrenching punch of a story that I absolutely absorbed myself into. A wild ride. Writing the way she writes best!
I'm gonna have to rant hereeeee... This book had potential but it was just too short to care about the characters. I enjoyed the story and idea of it even though I could have done without the sex scene. The story starts slow then picks up, it had me entertained and wanting more so I'll give it a four :)
I have been in love with JT Lawrence thrillers, she made them fun and enticing in her own way, this one was no exception, it was short but packed with action and I had so much fun with it, and the suspense on this plot was killing me until the very end.
An awesome short story for a conspiracy theorist fan.
OK, OK! JT Lawrence, you've got me! My flabber is truly gasted! My jaw has dropped so low it's bouncing off the floor! It's the ideas, they are so genius, so inspired, so unique, so engrossing, so, so, so, bloomin' marvellous. I LOVED and ADORED The Memory Hacker, I've just finished it and it was just awesome. I genuinely don't know how anyone can come up with so many ingenious and original concepts and then execute them quite so brilliantly. I'd never even heard of 'cyberpunk' until I discovered the genius that is JT Lawrence, and now I'm addicted; although whether I'm addicted to the genre or this particular author will be decided by the judge when my case goes to court next month! I cannot get enough of these stories. I HATE short stories, except those composed by JT Lawrence. Her writing is the highest calibre, she's like the Shakespeare of the 21st century. If you haven't listened or read any of her work you are so missing out. Narration was good, and I decided it wasn't fair to deduct a star from Michael T Bradley just because he's not the narrator I'm used to when listening to Ms Lawrence's work. I am now going for a lie down in a darkened room with a cold compress on my forehead, mainly because the future, as so eloquently described by Ms Lawrence, is credible and terrifying! The highest of all high recommendations. Marvellous!
My twelfth read from author J.T. Lawrence. A suspenseful tale reminding us that Big Brother is indeed watching. Enjoyable, I’ll be reading more from this author! (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Talia leads a life without illusion. Since her partner abandoned her, things have not been the same. One day during a routinary medical check, the AI informs her about some old internal scars caused by a c-section, and how they can be treated. There is just a problem about this: Talia is not conscious of ever giving birth, but she will not stop until finding the truth.
Children is a recurrent subject in Lawrence’s stories. One of the things I love from her books are the very well crafted characters and how their problems feel urgent and matter to the reader. I think this is essential to be able to connect to the story, and Janita excels at this. I could feel Talia’s anguish about wanting to know, and the intrigue kept me on the edge of my seat to the very end.
Even though this is a fairly short story, there are a couple of twists that made it more interesting. One of them I saw it coming but I think I’ve been reading too many of Janita’s books lately 😉 I just can’t get enough of her literature!
This time I missed having a South-African narrator, but Michael T. Bradley did a great job narrating this book. He inflected the right amount of emotion to the characters, and his compelling tone kept the story flowing. Something that could have been improved was the audio production since some mouth/swallowing noises were audible at times. It also felt a bit odd having a male narrator on a story in which the main character is a woman.
I loved this book, and it’s incredible how much some characters can move me on that short span of time. The only thing I would have changed about this book is that I would wish for the story to be longer. I think I would have enjoyed a longer version of this, with more details and maybe a longer development towards the end.

This book starts out rather mundane with a physical exam performed by a machine -- in no way preparing you for the thrill ride ahead. It's at this time that Talia, the MC, learns that she has had a child by C-Section. What? How could any woman have given birth and have no recollection? This has to be a machine error. But... if it is true that Talia had a child, where is the child and why would she have no idea of the child's existence? The rest of the book centers on Talia trying to discover the truth -- and it is action-packed page turner with barely a moment to catch your breath. It is a short but very satisfying story.
As I listened to this book -- the narrator, Michael Bradley, did a good job. However, since the protagonist is a female, I would have preferred a female narrator. So, to me, it was initially a bit distracting from the story to hear a male narrator.
This is a fast read with some Cyberpunk elements. The book is too short for it to develop the world and characters much which seems fine at first until the ending. The ending doesn't hit as hard, because you don't really feel much for the characters. The book starts off a little slow, but picks up halfway through. Some good elements, but the sex scene and ending felt out of place. This book probably would have been better off being longer and having more of the characters developed. The narration was ok, but I don't think it really fit for this book considering the main character is female. When a woman's routine check up reveals she has scars from a Cesarean Section for a baby she has no recollection of, her determination to find out what she doesn't remember sets her on a course that will change her life forever. JT Lawrence's new, near future science fiction story will frighten, fascinate and enthrall you though it may have you questioning both your memories and your friends. Great S.F. that's all too plausible.
I really enjoy JT Lawrence. I have read a lot by her and almost everything has been superb. This is no exception. This story was short but sweet and right in line with the futuristic semi-dystopian world she has created. I am a big fan. The story was read well and the creative way the story unfolded was great.

You think you know what will happen or what is coming. Part of the story seems like something you’ve heard or seen before.....but this is still an original short story. Nice quick read.
Narration was excellent.
I was voluntarily provided this review copy at no charge by the author, publisher and or narrator.
The Memory Hacker: A Cyberpunk Conspiracy Thriller was another great read by JT Lawrence. Talia is having a medical scan when she finds out that she has given birth before. Talia is now on a mission to find out what happened an why she can’t remember. I loved this quick read and cant wait to read more by JT Lawrence.

Once again JTL did not disappoint. Short and sweet, I thought I’d worked out the twist only for it to twist again. I really enjoy this world / time and its stories.
I was given this book for free at my request. This is a very fast paced book of Talia going in for an ordinary exam finding out that she’s had kids yet she doesn’t remember them. Really interesting story with some twists and turns wish there was a bit more at the ending.
A pulse-pounding thrill ride. How far will you go to find the truth? To what lengths will a parent’s love go? Note that there is some swearing in this book, and a sex scene which is not explicit. I enjoyed the narration. I received a free copy of the audiobook, with no obligation.
A very suspenseful short book only JT Lawerence could write!Loved it! Michael T. Bradley was a fine narrator.I was given this book by the narrator, author or publisher free for an honest review.
I love JT Lawrence's imagination and really enjoyed the Memory Hacker. It is a great story, I just wished it was a bit longer and the story was a bit more fleshed out so we can enjoy it for longer.
