One Fall Day

Rate this book
Manhattan food critic Valentina Aragon is reluctant to visit small town River Valley. When her mentor insists it will help recharge her creativity (with the possibility of a promotion), Val figures there is nothing to lose. A trip to the local B&B turns out to be just what the doctor ordered, and Val easily loses herself in the warm citizens and welcoming town. The last thing she expects is a run-in with an unmannerly yet very handsome landscape designer.

Brandon Scott never expected to lose his heart. With a full workload to keep him busy and a reluctance to start a relationship, love is the last thing on his mind. Though he isn’t exactly welcoming to the local inn’s pretty new boarder, an opportunity to make it up to her draws them closer together.

As the golden leaves fall and River Valley embraces the chilly autumn season, acquaintances turn into friends and more, a community comes together to save a local treasure, and a figure from Brandon’s past may jeopardize his thriving business and possible future with Val.

One Fall Day starts off with a beautiful cover. I liked the main characters and their relationships with the supporting characters. Val and Brandon make a great couple. I enjoyed the descriptions of the settings. Rachel Matthews paints a picture with her words. I fell in love with the town of River Valley and want to book my room at the River Inn Bed and Breakfast. I did find part of the plot very unlikely, but was willing to overlook it to enjoy the romance. I've never read an epilogue that occurred the same day as the end of the last chapter, but I don't know of any rules that it can't be. There's a happy for now ending that makes it likely that the couple will get that HEA. I received an ARC. I chose to review and share my opinion.

One Fall Day was a fun story set in the perfect town of River Valley. Everything about this area is awesome except for he occasional mean guy here and there. (Very necessary in a novel but, of course, annoying.) The characters were very likable and quirky. Great writing. I was left with some questions but they weren't critical to the story. I did think it unlikely that a girl who loves the city would become enamored enough with country life in only one week, enough to want to stay, but that's just me being way practical.
3.5 Stars. Clean.

Lovely story! I really loved the main characters: Valentina and Brandon.
I absolutely detested Shannon!! I nearly felt like jumping into the story and slapping some sense into her! What a disgusting character she is. I commend Brandon for staying sane around her!
The plot was good, and some of the secondary characters were amazing! Overall, worth reading!
A clean romance with a HEA.
